Hi,

I am taking a very good friend to WDW in 10 days. Both her parents were from Norway and she grew up eating norwegian food. She is 71 and has never been to WDW or even beyond New England. I am so excited to share the magic with her.

I'm hoping to get some information on the bakery in Norway from those of you who may have visited recently. I've looked at the offerings from the ALLEARS web site and have an idea of what is offered. Are their offerings the same each day or do they sometimes offer new pastries? What is a Cloudberry Horn? What is your opinion on the quality of the food?

In all my visits to Epcot, I have not visited this bakery. I am hoping that it is a real treat for her. Any info or reviews will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have gone in the past year and I thought it was delicious. I think like the Patisserie in France, it keeps the same rotation of foods. So the menu you see will most likely be the one on your visit. The Patisserie was my favorite for YEARS and now the Kringala (sp?) Bakery has replaced it as my must do on visits to EPCOT. The time I went was the day before Akershus changed to the new menus for princess meals. 2 CMs were in line with me. They conversed with the CM's working in native langauge--so I inquired. They were disappointed that the authenticity of Akershus was going away--but the bakery was still fairly authentic in offerings.

I think your friends parents will like it. Most all the countries are fairly authentic in their offerings and I have known several who enjoy stopping in their "home" country for a little taste of home.

No idea what a cloudberry horn is. Sorry.

Thanks for your quick reply and CONGRATULATIONS on completing the Half Marathon! Hats off to you...and so soon after surgery! Great time...you worked hard.

I was there that weekend, cheering for my daughter, who ran her first marathon. She ran with a friend, stayed together for the duration, and they finished in 4:16:06.

Boy, those were a couple a very "cold" mornings!!

That bakery in a word--yummy! I used to love the Patisserie in France, but now that their food has taken a serious dive, it has been replaced by the Kringla. I can't remember offhand what they have, I always get something chocolatey! I know they have sandwiches, a lot of puff pastry types of desserts...I really don't think you'll be disappointed!

My husband particularly likes the rice pudding that they offer.. it is a favorite....although over the years we have watched the size of it shrink, shrink, shrink....

I think it is a fine bakery and one not to be missed...

Your friend will know cloudberries. They are a small berry that grows only in Scandanavia. A pastry horn is simply puff pastry shaped like a small horn, with some filling (e.g., cloudberry preserves).

I love the bakery in Norway, it is a definite must-do! I MUST have at least 3 kringlas per trip. :goodvibes I don't know about the authenticity of the food, as I have never been to Norway, but I can tell you it is WONDERFUL!! Have a great trip!

By the way, congrats to your daughter. She was really flying!!

The open sandwiches are lovely esp the smoked salmon and scrambled egg one :yummy: This is the one place we visit every trip and are so disappointed to see how Akershus has changed :(

The School Bread and Lefse are divine, as are their freshly made waffles! If there aren't any fresh waffles, simply ask! They'll whip some up in no time! They can be served plain if desired, or topped with fruit.

My dad is 100% Norwegian and I grew up eating Lefse (a thin potato pancake that has butter and sugar in it and rolled up). I stopped by the bakery in Epcot and grabbed some and it literally brought tears to my eyes! So, I can tell you they have lefse, I went twice in one night to buy more. I didn't look at anything else!

I have 2 words for you....SCHOOL BREAD!!! I read about this wonderful pastry on the boards here and we went in Dec and tried it for the first time and it is knock you on your butt delicious! It is a sweet roll with yummy light yellow cream on the inside and coconut and a thin white frosting on the outside!!!! Oh I want to make the 3 hour drive to Epcot and get one right now!

I just love these boards....

Thank you all for your replies. Where else can you go and get so much information and help? Time and time again, these boards have made me look good in front of family and friends.

I'll let you know my friend's reactions when I return.

Just back from a long weekend, and we stopped briefly here, and having heard it mentioned on these boards, the four of us split a Schoolbread. It was delicious! Think of it as a brioche filled with a light buttery sweet custard.

If we had the time, we would've come back for lunch, because the ham and Jarlsberg sandwiches looked to die for.

I can't remember exactly what the cloudberry horn is, though.

When y'all go, have a schoolbread for me, will ya? :flower:

Love the rice cream, love the sandwiches, love the lefske (sp?). I have no idea if it's authentic food, but it is good! Enjoy!

2 words

almond pretzel

not a typical pretzel. It is like soft raisin bread with a light vanilla frosting and of course almonds. :cloud9: WOW!!!

The waffles were gone last summer. I don't know if they have brought them back since last summer, but the cm didn't think they'd be bringing them back anytime soon.

This is one of our favorite places to eat. The food is very good. The open face sandwiches make a nice lunch and the pastries are excellent. Our favorites are the kringla, rice dream, berry tarts and the waffles (which were not offered on our last trip). The cloudberry horn is a pastry horn shape with a cloudberry and whipped cream mix inside- very good.

I was there in January and had a waffle It was SOOO good. :sunny:

I love the pretzel is that the one that is called kringla? The one with the almonds on top is my favorite.

We were there last week and had some incredible pastries. The sweet pretzel was gobbled up by the kids before I had a chance to try it, must have been good. Oh, the strawberry cheesecake was so yummy, light and sweet, my favorite item! We also had the rice cream, was good, and the berry tarts, which were really good also. I liked the berry tarts at Norway better than the lemon tarts in France. The school bread looked so good but we already had enough treats to fill us up.
I know it sounds like all we ate was sweets, but we like to get a large variety of pastries, this was the first time at the Norway bakery, and share them between 3 adults at our hotel room as a late night snack. We really enjoyed the bakery in Norway better than the France bakery.

Have fun!
