We are a family of 3 who wishes to set together on Northwest airlines from Detroit to Orlando. Will we be able to request this at booking and assign our own seats or will we have to pay a premium to set together at a later time?

I have heard that you have to wait until close to your flight date to request seats and then they charge extra for an aisle seat(we would need 1 in order for all of us to be together). We started the booking process online but it would not allow us to select our seats at 90+ days out.

If anyone has advice or previous experience that can help answer this question I would greatly appreciate it.

You can book your flights but you can't get seat assignments on Northwest until 90 days from departure. Not all aisle seats have an extra charge. We had no trouble getting seats together in February. They actually assigned us seats at 90 days, then I went in to our reservation number and moved us to other seats so we weren't over the wing.

I forgot to mention, there is a place on your reservation where you can select a preference for aisle or window seat. I can't remember if middle seat is also an option to check. One of you should check aisle and another check window and the third, middle seat if that is an option. That way when they do the automatic assignment at 90 days, you will most likely be together. This is assuming you are all on the same reservation.

If for some reason you aren't seated together, just go in and make the changes. I would check it at 90 or 89 days and make the change as soon as possible if needed while there are still vacant seats available. I would also check your seat assigment several times before your trip to make sure they haven't changed anyone. We had seat assignments together a couple years ago and then a couple weeks before our flight, discovered that they had moved my 5 year old granddaughter to a different section of the plane all by herself. When I called, they had no idea how it happened and they moved her back with us.
