Since we're definitely on a budget and the price is good, I'm considering flying from Pgh to Orlando with a short layover in Memphis. My question...I've never flown Northwest, nor do I know anything about them. Can anyone share their experiences with me? Thanks!

Northtwest is the main airline from my home airport, so I have flown them a few times. They seem to run on-time, so no complaints there. If you have a long enough flight you can buy a snack box for $5. They have a little chart, different colors each day=different goodies in the box. We didn't buy one, but we were able to purchase a small can of pringles for $2. Not exactly a bargin, but they sounded good.

For our trip home from Orlando we must have been on the last flight of the day. The FAs came around offering free wine. And it was actually pretty tasty. But the turbulance we were in right before then might have had something to do with how good it tasted too.;)

I have flown NWA all over, US Europe & Asia, no really big problems with them. On the way back from Orlando, Friday after Thanksgiving, the FA's were handing out brownies to all the little kids(it was really good as it was too big for my 5yr old to finish).

They have never lost any of my bags, but I did see the opera singer Jessye Norman dealing with lost bags in Detroit once. ;)

Given a choice, I'd take NWA over USAir any day(always had dramas with them).

Drinks, you have to buy the snack box. I usually bring my own snacks, I actually bought sandwiches at MCO to eat on the plane(flight during lunch time).

Does Northwest provide you with small snacks (a soft drink & peants)???

They do give out drinks but no free snack. They offer a trial mix bar for $1 or $2.

What type of plane is it? I've flown PIT/MSP often with them and when they use their old DC-9's, it's delayed more often than not for maintenance. One time last fall we taxied out at PIT only to come out to the gate for a repair. They also fly small 50 seat CRJ's, haven't had delays with them but they are uncomfortable for a 2 hour flight.

I've been flying Southwest PIT/MCO, never had a delay.
