I have flown from IND. We have never flown Northwest, I see 90 days prior you can request seats. Do you think we will be able sit 3 in a row with DH across the aisle? Can we take on 2 carryons with 4 of us? What else do I need to know? Thanks DD9 DS6 turning 7 on the trip. Does Northwest ever change or cancel their flight times?

1) Northwest opens their seat maps 90 days prior to the flight date. People booking within the 90-days usually will get their seats at the time the reservation is made. If you booked earlier than 90-days, you have to go back to your reservation if you booked on line or call NWA if you booked over the phone and select the seats you want. If you do this early (like on day 90) then you should have no problem at all getting 3 across plus the aisle across. Keep in mind that if you do call on the 90th advance date that you can't book the return seats until 90-days befor the return date.

2) Each passenger can bring on a carry-on PLUS a personal item such as a purse or laptop computer. If there are 4 passengers in your group, then you can have 4 carry-ons.

3) Yes, Northwest does change flight times and can cancel flights just like every airline. The reality though is that usually flight times are changed a few minutes here or there, not significantly. But there can be significant changes too. If you're booking 6 months before departure there is more of a chance of changes than if you book 30-days before departure. I recommend you check your reservation a month before you leave and then again a few days before you leave, just to see if anything changed. Sometimes only the flight number changed, sometimes the departure time changed, sometimes the arrival time changed, sometimes all of them changed!

4) Not a whole lot more to know. Do advance check-in for your flight the day prior to departure and print your boarding passes; that saves time at the airport.

We just booked on the phone for the first time (our vouchers wouldn't work correctly online). So we to select seats over the phone? I didn't realize that. Thanks for the info.

BTW, we have flown NWA out of Indy several times, and this past July was our first real problem. This was during the time that pilots were running out of hours and we had an end of the month flight that was cancelled. They got us on the next direct flight (we got to go in First Class), so it worked out. And we have always been assigned to sit 3 in a row with one across, or on this last trip, on the way there, we had three across and DH was across and one back.

We have flown NWA from IND to MCO several times and will be flying to MCO from IND 11/28-12/5 and 1/30-2/5 this winter on NWA. We take the 9:15 am flight from IND and that time has stayed been pretty well the same. We return at 11:50 am, some people want to stay longer and take the 5:25 pm n/s back.

If the reservation is made more than 90 days before departure they will assign the seats to you at 90 days out. You can go to their site and see what you have and change it if you want. Do it close to 90 days and you will get seats together. You can also use DME both ways if you wish.

We have enjoyed NWA to Orlando. The fares have been very good.
