Northern Sights and Mickey's MAGICal Delights-1st Baltic Cruise-June 12,2010-Pt 2

HEY everybody! I haven't been on here in a while! I wanted to drop by to say hello!

I'm currently trying to book my pre and post cruise plans. I haven't done ANYTHING yet!!! I've been beating my head on the desk, just like I always do when planning vacations. I have been going back and forth on whether or not to fly in and go straight to the port. That idea is kind of making me nervous. I think I need a day cushion. We are going to be hanging out in London for a few days after.

I have to admit....I'm a little nervous about the volcano. I keep thinking about the article that said the last time in blew, it lasted two years. EEEEK!

I am also not to happy about Stockholm. That is really short!!! What kind of surprise could they possibly come up with to make up for that??????

Do I have this correct? Is there no "fish extender list"?

Hope everyone is doing well. I'm going back to the grind and beating my head on the desk until I finally have all plans finished. That is going to be a ton of bricks off of me.

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't posted in a while, but I'm still here in Australia taking note of all the good tips you are posting (& watching the volcano too!).

We were in Tokyo over the easter break (doing Disneyland of course), so I've come back to about 6 pages of posts to catch up on!

Counting the days till we set sail....can I just apologise in advance if you are at the early dinner seating on the 1st night & see a 4-yr old having a meltdown - that will be my son falling apart after the 24hr flight to get to London!

If you can do it, I highly recommend the day cushion. My DH & I flew in the day of for the WBTA in '07 and that was just absolutely miserable. We landed in Barcelona and it had just rained, so it was hot and steamy, plus I was tired and hungry, which all equaled to me being very crabby.:rotfl: The check in staff (I don't think they were actual DCL staff) were arguing with me about what I needed to check in, this wasn't my first cruise. By this point all I wanted to do was get on the ship and crash. Well, that was my next mistake. The jet lag hit us so hard, the next morning we almost missed our shore excursion.:scared1: My dad called the room and wanted to know if we were still going. Yeah, when does it leave? In 5 min!!!! Luckily, we weren't the only ones oversleeping. We just didn't get any breakfast.

When you can, I'd love to hear details about the Tokyo Disneyland experience (we haven't been to this Disney property and I'd like to do it some day, if I can talk the family into it!)

It's on mine and DH's list one day too. Actually our ideal 10th anniversary trip right now (3 years away) is to spend the year hitting all of the Disney parks around the world. I don't know if that will actually happen or not, but that's our tentative plan right now.

We did the Tokyo and Honk Kong parks in 2008. The Tokyo Parks are awesome; probably the best of all the Disney parks.

Not officially, we're all just working off of the roster that Debbie has compiled here. I think the general rule is that you give gifts to as many or as few of those cabins as you like. :goodvibes

Another shipmate on the dis mentioned that AAA does currency exchanges. I went on their website and if you are a member you can order via their website; this appears to be a good solution. Also on the ETA thread going on now a couple of folks mentioned that you can not get currency by charging it to your room. You need dollars or some other currency to exchange for another currency. Hopefully the volcano will stop long before we all leave!

Good point! I'll go a day earlier. I've got two little boys, so I don't know what I was thinking.

Okay, great! I'll work off of that, thank you!

If you are a Bank of America customer, you can order currency on-line including rubles. It took about a week to receive my order. I picked it up at a local branch. You can have it delivered to your home but someone has to be there to sign for it.

Thanks WeLoveABD, we really enjoyed Tokyo Disneyland. I would say it's a MUST visit - but really for DisneySea, rather than Disneyland.

Tokyo DL makes you use your days consecutively, so we had to do 4 days in a row. You have to nominate which park you will visit the 1st day, then you do the other park on the 2nd day. Days 3 & 4 we were allowed to hop between parks.

First 2 days were a nightmare - terrible rain one day, and then SO crowded in Disneyland the 2nd day, seriously 2 hr waits for all rides, even queues 100m long for popcorn! However, school must have gone back or something, because the last 2 days were awesome! We were on every ride without waiting & met heaps of characters.

Best parts in Disney - rides pretty much the same, except Pooh's Honey Hunt, which was amazing. Best part of going - DisneySea, it's now our favourite park, it has fabulous theming, & they have the official Disney teddy bear there - Duffy (such a sucker, both my kids brought one home!), a Cape Cod themed area, Mermaid Lagoon, Agrabah,.....just all fantastic. Plus the Japanese are NUTS for Disney, grown men were walking around the park in
their Daisy Duck hats & t-shirts! We thought we were Disney freaks....until we met the Japanese!

So, definately worth a visit, but pick your time VERY carefully to avoid massive crowds. We made it just in time for the full cherry blossom blooms in Tokyo & that was a sight I'll never forget.

My TA is rebooking my cabin for the discounted Cat. 12. I am saving almost 2000 dollars even after paying the 1200 fee for canceling after the due date. Two thousand dollars will pay for alot of excursions and souveniers. I was in a cat. 11 anyway, so it doesn't really matter that much.

I know the Japanese are Disney fanatics. You can see that when you see them at WDW. I can only imagine what it's like in their own park.

We totally agree! TDS is the best! We visited TDL & TDS for a week in 2004. I'm not a big Pooh fan but their attraction ride system is incredible. We also loved Journey to the Center of the Earth & 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in TDS. Being a big Little Mermaid fan, I loved the life-sized Trition's Castle. We even met Prince Eric and his dog, Max inside! The Japanese CM's were fantastic too! We had a Japanese gondolier teaching us to sing songs in Italian! What a hoot!:rotfl2:

Welcome to Utah. How was the spring skiing?

It was sunny, relatively warm and we had a foot of fresh powder. Utah really is home to "The greatest snow on earth" as seen on the state license plates.

Now that most of my laundry is done from that trip I can concentrate on the Baltic cruise.

Noticed this on the Baltic planning thread for those of you with iPhones - Lonely Planet City Guides for London, Stockholm, Berlin and Copenhagen are free until 659pm EST tonight. They are usually $9.99 each....

KEWL!!!

Itouch and Ipad also, I hope.

Working on my Itouch as I type, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!

I went to the DCL website yesterday and saw I finally got a room assigned. We've been GTY Cat 4 since we booked and now know we will be in room 8542. I found it interesting that when I logged onto my DU reservation, it still showed GTY. I email our res agent at DU yesterday but she has not replied back.
