Northern Meet - Thanks to Astrid

Just got back(ish) - final taxi duties and Chrimbo shoppin while I was in the area and wanted to thank everyone for makin this Meet probably the best yet.

Everyone played their part but a massive and special thanks should go to Astrid, without who it just wouldn't have taken place.

Many seem to think it's 'my party' but I've merely been the 'press officer' - Astrid did everything, from booking the rooms, making the odd change here and there and liaising tirelessly with the Hotel Staff to make sure everything was alright on the night(s).

What most don't realise is that Astrid suffered the tragic loss of an old and dear family friend (Janet) on Thursday ,yet still managed to make several amendments to our plans without burdening the rest of the group and soldiered on throughout the weekend despite personal sorrow.

Astrid, this was the best Meet ever thanks to you.

Astrid, I know you'll be embarrassed by all this and say, 'I didn't do anything', but we all know how much hard work you put into it however much you try to deny it! We had a wonderful time and I'm so glad we came. Thank you so much.

Oh gosh - how difficult to reply to this thread.

You lot are just determined to get me all tearful aren't you?!

You will never know how touched I am by this thread (and, yes Deb, you're right - embarrassed too!), I got very tearful reading all your kind comments - thank you.

I found Thursday and Friday very tough days and was working on auto-pilot, but, to be honest, I think having you lot around me and having to get on and do things certainly helped a great deal, and it made me realise how very important good friends are.

Janet was a very dear friend and was always there for me and Bryn and Carys and stepped in like a surrogate grandmother whenever my parents were too busy to come along to things like nativity plays and school stuff, we'll miss her horribly, but, equally I'm glad she is no longer suffering.

The weekend was brilliant wasn't it and it really was my pleasure to do the hotel stuff etc. When all's said and done, DaveSD did all the behind the scenes work and taxi-ing service so I can't in any way, shape or form claim much credit (although, of course, it was my Meet ).

So, a big thank you to you lot for making a difficult weekend so special and also a big thank you to Dave for all his work in making it so successful and also for posting this thread.
