Hi,

My husband and I would like to go up to the North Shore for a day trip to eat lunch at the shrimp trucks, but our little man really doesn't like shrimp or sea food. are there trucks that offer other options? ie: chicken fingers, burgers, etc?

Thanks :)

We didn't notice anything like that, the other trucks around were also shrimp trucks. But there is a McDonald's across the street from the trucks that would be very easy to walk to.

We stopped at a few shrimp trucks on our North shore day and there was no McDonalds anywhere near them. My husband was the picky one and did find a hot dog at one of them. I suggest maybe finding something you can bring along for him so no worries on where you stop to eat.

There is a McDonalds right across from Giovanni's Shrimp Truck. As a family we ate at Spaghettini just down the road. It wasn't the best but certainly wasn't the worst. There are lots of small hole in the wall places to eat in Haleiwa. Everyone in your group shouldn't feel like they have to eat shrimp.

Or, since he is so little, can you pack a small cooler with snacks? My son, born on Oahu, has food allergies. We often brought food along on dinners.

Walmart in Kapolei sells small collapsible coolers.

Right in the middle of Haleiwa, I highly recommend Kua'Aina Burgers! A little more pricey than McDonald's, but the burgers (as well as turkey, ahi, mahimahi sandwiches) are first rate. The food is always cooked to order so everything is hot and fresh. It's about a few minutes from the Giovanni shrimp truck.

I'm referring to the shrimp trucks where Giovanni's is located. It's right before entering Haleiwa, maybe 3/4 of a mile before Matsumoto's (coming from Aulani). There is a McDonald's directly across the street. Perhaps you were at different trucks, or maybe the McDonald's is new? We were there September 2016.

We ate at the Kua Aina Burgers in Kapolei and thought it was just ok. It was fine, but nothing special, and it's a chain as well. In the North Shore, we loved Kono's - the pork bomber was amazing. But the menu was small so I don't know whether anything would appeal to a picky eater.

We were there in June so either at different spots, because I know my husband would not have passed up a McDonalds. We were with 2 other families and I know we did Mackys on the way to Haleiwa and we stopped at more on the way home later in the day. Good to know if one is in the area. We kind of ate our way to the North Shore that day. Dole whip, Mackys for coconut shrimp, Matsumotos, and more trucks on the way back. I can't wait to go back.

Now that I think about it, I think we were there last and probably didn't notice. I just remembered we had changed people in the cars so I was probably talking!

Giovanni's is a little past Macky's, off to the right in a little ditch with a couple other trucks and lots of people/cars everywhere. With McDonald's being across the street, it would be easy to miss if everyone is looking over at the trucks and watching out for people and traffic!

Most likely I was chatting but good to know. I can send my husband over there as he was not into any shrimp trucks.

Kamekona is opening up a shrimp truck on the north shore saids to have the best shrimp on the island.

Hawaii five 0 fans will get it.

There is another Giovanni's on the North Shore. If you go to the one in Kahuku, there are other food trucks in that area with other options. The place with the teriyaki bbq chicken might work for a kid, or there is also a truck that does a cheeseburger(definitely a nothing special type of burger, but could work and they also have fries and such). Also a Mexican food truck and I have heard that they do a good quesadilla.

Kahuku isn't much farther than Sunset Beach, so still an easy stop.

There's 2 Giovanni trucks, yes one is near a McD's (66-472 kamehameha hwy, haleiwa) the other one on the actual waterfront is not near McD's (56-505 kamehameha hwy, kahuku). The trucks sell a hotdog or some sort of sausage if I recall.
