Does anybody know anything about the Northlanding Beach Campground outside of Virginia beach? We have ressies there for this summer and it looks nice, but some objective info would be great!

TIA!

Sorry you aren't getting any replies....I've never been there. Do you have a link for it ??

I live in Portsmouth which is also part of the Hampton Roads area. I have camped at almost every campground around here - but of course, not this one.

I CAN answer any questions about the area you may have though.

North Landing Beach is located in the "Back Bay" area below Virginia Beach Oceanfront - it is VERY quiet and out of the way of all the tourists. Very pretty too.

But if you want to go to Virginia Beach Oceanfront area, you just drive up Princess Anne until you run into General Booth Blvd - hang a right on General Booth and it will take you right in. There's a water park, Ocean Breeze, I think it is called and the Marine Science Museum, to name a few things to do.

Wow, that does look nice. Wish I had known about it when we went to Williamsburg last year. Would have made a nice stop for a few days.

It gets some pretty good reviews on RV Park Reviews. If you haven't checked it out, here's the link:

Well, will you camp there before June? :lmao: Just kidding! Thank you for your help! We were hoping that it would be quiet and not "touristy". We are planning to spend one day at VA Beach, but do other things around the campground the rest of the time. I have been to the Marine Science Museum with my oldest DD. It is really nice! I'll have to put that on the list. I will be camping with a couple "fish geeks" :rolleyes1

Thanks for the reviews! I hadn't seen that! Where did you camp in Williamsburg? Last Labor Day we stayed at the Chickahominy State Park Campground. It was OK.

I live in Virginia Beach, but I have never camped here before. We camp alot at Holiday Trav-L-Park on General Booth Blvd. It has 3 pools, karoke, live bands, miniature golf, game room with several pool tables, and you can park free at the ocean front in their lot during your stay. It is about a mile or so to the oceanfront.

I have posted the link if you ever need any info on it.

We stayed there last March. It was fine, (except for the bath houses, yuk) we mainly went because my husband was fishing.

If you're in the Williamsburg area, one of the best places to camp is Newport News Campground. Large sites, not too expensive and only about 20-30 minutes down the road.

We camped at American Heritage. It made for a good base camp to explore the area, but I wouldn't camp there if I was wanting to hang out at the campground much. Besides a decent pool it didn't offer any fun stuff. Certainly no Fort! But it was OK.

When we visited Williamsburg we stayed at Chippokes Plantation State Park. Across the James River from the historic triangle area, but only a free car ferry away. Would stay there again in a second.

This is all great info! We love to go to Williamsburg and usually go at least once a year! Campgrounds in that area seemed to be slim-pickens, so this stuff is great!!! Thanks!

Chippokes is a GREAT choice for camping. But it is busy on the tent side. Kids can't get enough of the pool...huge with twin diving boards and a slide. And the ferry ride over to Jamestown and Williamsburg is a piece of cake, runs 24-hours, so if you decide to maybe do Busch Gardens, don't have to worry about getting stuck with a one hour drive by way of the James River Bridge (US 17) to get back across.

Newport News is intriguing to us as well, 10 minutes down Jefferson Ave. from Williamsburg, so it would be closer, and its a little more wooded than Chippokes...but less private in a sense...HUGE campground overall, really impressive.

We live in Currituck, just across the border from Hampton Roads...and a 15-minute boat ride up the sound/North Landing River from our house to North Landing Campground...haven't stayed there, but have driven by enough going to Knotts Island when the ferry across wasn't running...we may do it later this spring...maybe by boat, maybe by ferry (kids school is across from the ferry dock).

One thing to remember...June-September can be ROUGH around here...hot, humid, and the mosquitos have tail numbers. :rotfl:

Thank you so much! It sounds like you are the resident expert! This is our annual beach trip with another family. Last year we rented a house in Corolla. This year we decided to camp. I will definitely be checking out Chippokes next time!!!!

Have more time today to tell more about Chippokes. While we stayed at Chippokes it was early June, 2005 and the weather was HOT! Heat advisories the entire time. We were there only 3 nights (had spent 3 or 4 nights at a Nat'l Park near DC). One day went to Williamsburg, another drove to VaBeach for the day and the third hung out at the campground. Yes, we used the pool but the what I remember is walking the all-purpose trail past the nature center one muggy evening after dinner. First we come to swampy area that is creepy loud with frogs. Cool. But the highlight was crossing a bridge over a small stream almost at it's mouth into the James River and DW and I had a fun time "playing" with tons of crabs on the stream's banks below. We'd slowly walk over the bridge and the crabs would slowly hide. We'd run over pretty quick and the crabs would move quicker. We'd start, then stop. They'd start, then stop. Had fun, like I posted earlier we'd go back. But like GoCamels said, the mosquitos and other flying insects are menacing. The kiddie pool had some interesting creatures floating in it.

Camping around here makes you appreciate even more what the folks at Roanoke Island 1584 to 1587 and Jamestown in 1607 went through.
