Normal DU response time?

We always book through Disney directly or re-book while onboard but I saw that there is a VGT rate for a date we can go. If they let us use the onboard credit offer we will book through them. What is there normal response time, I don't want to lose the VGT rate and does anyone know how quickly those rates book up?

I normally book everything myself too, but the shipboard credit made me try out DU. I have had a good experience so far, and pretty quick response time. I booked the VGT too, and honestly, it was more delayed on my part, than on the part of my agent. I have Hayes Persons. So far so good.

No idea how quickly special rates book up. But I can tell you I've used DU for all my Disney trips so far. I don't remember ever waiting very long for a response. Especially during the week. But then, it could depend on the assigned agent. We've requested the same agent for all our trips and she's very quick to respond.

I'd say give it a shot. Put in a quote request online and see what happens. If you don't hear from someone fast enough and you get antsy or worried, go on and book it yourself.

Come to think of it... Can't you hand over an existing reservation to them? As in, make the reservation yourself and then have them take it over? I don't think I've ever done that, but I feel like I read that you can.

Hmm... Don't know if my response has been helpful or just confusing.

It's hard to release the control to a very controlling women like myself, even if it's just a reservation :rolleyes1
But for a possible onboard credit of $150 I might just do it this time.
From what I've been reading about the VGT rates, you can't transfer them because they are due in full at the time of reserving them and it would have to be transferred before it was paid in full.

I know that you can reserve regular staterooms, pay your deposit, and then contact DU to turn it over to them. Done it twice now.

If you do this (transfer a reservation after booking), the TA gets a bit over half of the standard commission, so may reduce the OBC or other benefits they give you.

I pick up the phone and call my agent's 800 number. Instant service and their OBC along with whatever the rate is from DCL.

I did book thru DU once, several years ago. It took many days for them to get back with me. Of course, things could have changed in those years.

I just booked a VGT this week. I found it on Sunday (not sure how long it had been up), booked it on Monday, and I checked today and it was gone. So I can't say for sure how long they keep those rates available, but it seems like it's a short window.

RainyJ that's wha's making me nervous. I guess if I don't hear back by late this afternoon I will just book it on my own so I don't kick myself if I wake up tomorrow and the rate is gone. But that $150 OBC would be nice.

There are other travel agents, too, that will give you an OBC that might have a faster response time. I use somebody from Small World Vacations, and whenever I've had something urgent, she gets back to me right away. So if you don't hear from DU, you may want to contact another TA and still get an OBC and your VGT rate ...

Totally agree :thumbsup2

Have you heard back yet? I really think it depends on the agent. I tried to get a quote from Small World, and waited forever. But my Dreams Unlimited agent was really quick. So it's a crapshoot, I think. But hope you can book it with the OBC!
