Nook t/j- DH bought me a Kindle

Thank you for the reply - I didn't know you can get free books and lend books. I pretty much will read anything!

I think I may ask for this for Christmas!

I'm not a huge reader but was still wondering if it would be for me. I am just starting to pick up books again and they are all recent books. I have a "back supply" to read and they are adding up space wise. It would sure save on storing the books before I read them. I also LOVE cookbooks. I have a stupid question. Are ALL books that hit the market now available on the nook/kindles?

I went back and forth on the Nook vs the Kindle, read all the comparisons and finally, after a month, ordered the Kindles for my adult girls and DIL for Christmas. They ship on the 27th. There were small differences, and I think they would have been happy with either (my DIL lives overseas, so for her it had to be the Kindle) but the Kindle won based more on what people who have had both suggested. I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

I really am not sure what you are referring to there. Both the Kindle and the nook release firmware updates (what you call software). The upgrades for the Kindle that require you to purchase the new model are things that are beyond firmware - ie moving from domestic to International coverage or getting the new Pearl Screen. Those are hardware issues and to get the newest hardware you have to buy the newest hardware.

You don't have to buy a new Kindle or buy a new nook. Both work until they die. However there is going to be a nook 2 sometime ... soon-ish and I assume it will have upgrades, most likely the new Pearl screen. It cleared FCC approval last month.

Nope there is not expected to be a nook 2 in the next 2- 3 years supposedly.

But either way both are great and offer lots of free books so that is wonderful!
