I just came here to post this. I am REALLY hoping for the $89 Kindle tomorrow but I purchased this today just in case. I hope they have a decent return policy but I don't hold out a whole lot of hope of getting the Kindle tomorrow.

Books bought from other booksellers can absolutely be read on the Nook. I currently have books purchased from All Romance E-books, Samhain Publishing, Borders, New Concepts Publishing and a couple of other sources on my Nook. All books from other publishers have to be manually side-loaded onto the nook into the my documents directory but this is a simple process. The only issue I have found is that you need to make sure that the format you are buying is compatible with the formats the Nook reads. For example, Borders sells books in a variety of three different formats - pdf, epub and mobi; mobi format does not work on the Nook so while you can buy a lot of different books from them there are some you can't buy.

may i ask, are the books generally more expensive for the nook? because that's what i've read.
for example: classic books such as sherlock holmes and pride and prejudice are free for the kindle, but cost $0.99 to $1.99 on bn.com for the nook.

Almost without exception, every book that you can get for free for the Kindle- you can get for free for the Nook. Plus library books, which is an great $$ saving feature.
