Non WDW NYC Subway question

OK. I know this is a non Disney question on transportation but I haven't been able to find an answer anywhere else.

To all NY Mets fans in NYC do you know how long the subway from Times Square to Shea takes? I am planning a one day in and out trip for my Son the Mets fan from upstate NY and an trying to get an idea of how long it will take. I have plenty of buffer time built in and all to make sure we get there on time but I don't have any idea of how long the subway to Shea takes. We will be going on a Saturday afternoon.

Also... for bonus points. Does anyone know how early people get to the stadium? They have some promo going that day for the 1st 25,000 fans. Just curious how early we would need to get to the stadium to be part of the 1st 25,0000. He really wants that bobble head.

I have not been on the #7 train from Times Square to Willets Point/Shea Stadium in many, many years!!!! If I remember correctly the ride is probably around 35-45 minutes since they are all local trains. I think they stopped the express trains years ago. I would say you should get there about 2 hours before game time. Although I am not sure if they allow people into the park that early.

First things first; I'm a Met's fan in CT (Yankee and Red Sox land).
Subway from Times Square generally takes 30 minutes, with 7 or 8 stops depending on time of day, express vs. local. I think you can get a timetable
on the internet if you want, but 30 minutes would be a rule of thumb. The gates generally open 90 minutes before game time, but there have been situations when gate "C" opens earlier (2 1/2 hours). Depending on who the
bobblehead is and who the Met's are playing and if they are in any kind of race, etc. will be your determining factor for arrival. My suggestion would be arrive
2 hours ahead of time and you should be all set. BTW, I failed to mention it's
the "7 train" you take from Times Square to Shea and vice versa on the return.

Thanks for the info. I am going to plan on about an hour to give us enough buffer. I am going to plan on getting there around 2 hours before game time. If everything goes well we should get there even earlier, if not we have some buffer time.

If that were you enter for the promos or are they at every gate? We are looking at going on July 2nd for the Carlos Beltran bobble head promo. If everything goes according to schedule we should be at the stadium early. If not we have enough buffer to at least insure we make the game barring any major issues. Out of curiosity if we were to decide to not take the subway but drive right to Shea what is that like? I'm OK with driving in the city but have never been out to Shea and don't know what the parking situation is like.

Where in Upstate New York are you? We are also Upstate New Yorkers! LOL My hubby is a big Mets fan as well and would love to go to a game one day. He has been looking for a bus trip down but they are hard to find. Everything is for the Yankees. LOL Have a great trip! Rebecca

Just an added thought. The crush to get back on the subway after the game is quite an experience. You might plan to wait a bit before leaving for the train.

FYI, you can also take Long Island Rail Road from Penn Station. Port Washington line makes special stop at Shea Stadium on game days.

Good advice on guarding the bobblehead. There will be 3 of us going to hopefully one will make it home.
