Too stiff & creaky for go Karting, athough it sounds like fun, and Gatorland just doesn't appeal.

So what are your local suggestions for the 'less limber' adult?

There are quite a few dinner shows. Along w/ the traditional museum's in Orlando itself. You could also consider going to Cirque de Soliel (sp??)

I found this tour, might get to see a part of Orlando, most tourist don't when in the area.

Orlando City Tour -- See the city of Orlando, Lake Eola, Winter Park, Park Avenue, Rollins College, and the City of Celebration. Includes a scenic boat cruise in Winter Park.

The first point of interest on the City Tour is a journey around Lake Eola. See the heart of downtown Orlando. Then it's on to Winter Park where you will take a narrated scenic boat cruise from which you can view the city's beautiful homes and Rollins College from the waterway. Back on dry land, you will be given free time to wander the boutiques and stores of Park Avenue, the Orlando area's famous European-style shopping and dining district. To finalize the afternoon we head south through the attraction region to the City of Celebration, Disney's vision of the "perfect" community

I also read some good reviews of this place:
Harry P. Leu Gardens features three miles of paved scenic walkways that take you through fifty acres of southern styled gardens including

Leu Gardens is a definite! been there and it's really paradise for the garden lover.

The boat tour is also a definite - the price is right, and looks like a fun way to explore a new area.

Also, an air boat tour of the upper Everglades near Lake Topo- er -something or other.

Other suggestions?

And really, don't snub Gatorland. We are locals and went there and I really enjoyed it. They have a night time tour I would like to do this fall.
Sea World is definitely good too.
There is also a winery not far from the WDW area, near Groveland. (Somehow when I think of wine, FL just does not come to mind though.) ;)

We really liked Bok Sanctuary, about an hour's drive from Orlando. Beautiful gardens to stroll through.

I just found out about Big Cat Rescue by Tampa that sounds interesting.

Bok Sanctuary - on the list
Cypress Gardens . . .? IS that still open? I'd love to go there!
Wine? hmm we'll see - just for the 'odd for Florida' factor! Do you have a link?

Gatorland - on your recommendation I'll do some research
likewise the big cat thing - sounds interesting.

Any more?

Just to clarify...Lake Toho isnt actually a part of the Everglades itself...it is just on part of the head waters system of the Everglades. It is a beautiful lake, but I dont want you to expect to see the Everglades if you went.

Citrus World is actually a working citrus plant. It produces the orange juice brand "Florida's Natural" which IMHO is the finest orange juice on the market. You may have seen this brand in your local grocery store. They do have a visitors center which may be worth checking out if you were going to do Bok Tower Gardens, which is also in Lake Wales.

Spend some time in Winter Park, and definitely do that boat tour. It's a pontoon boat (can't fit anything wider through the canals), but they take you to three lakes all connected by these canals. Very beautiful, and you probably will get to see some wildlife. The stop off in downtown Orlando on your way back, check out Thorton Park and maybe have dinner there as well.

Orlando also has a lot of small parks that are worth a visit.

You might also want to check out the Science Museum and Art Musuem downtown, Mall at Millenia (and Ikea if you don't have one near you), and the Kissimmee Air Museum.

Absolutely agree with the Winter Park suggestion. It's a nice way to spend half a day. The science museum is also a great recommendation and I'd also recommend Fantasy of Flight down I4 toward Tampa as an interesting place to go.

If you like old cars (and can deal with a crowd) go check out the car cruise night at Old Towne on 192 on Saturday night. They get quite a showing and the price is free.

We just did a Cypress Garden weekend. The park is currently only open Friday, Saturday and Sundays. On Friday there were 30 cars in the parking lot. The water ski show is still top notch, the gardens are beautiful, the water park is fun and the rides are all walk on. In most cases you can reride without getting off. The current promotion is buy one day and get the second day free. We find this to be a very relaxing break from the Disney crowds.

Ok, Citrus world is on the list. Thank you! And I LOVE science museums, after a career in research, right up my alley! I knew you guys would have some GREAT ideas!

Thanks, guys ! I do like old cars, and I will definitely go to Cypress Garden!

I'm also volunteering 4 mornings at Give Kids the World, so it looks like I'm going to be busy :)
