Marathon Weekend 2027

Be careful, because the coating scratches so easily. I tossed a pair in my running belt and it absolutely destroyed them. Same with salt water. Got splashed, wiped off the water, and the lens was scratched all over.

I agree that they can scratch, but I’m not particularly gentle with mine and they’ve all lasted multiple years.

For what it’s worth, I never wipe salt water off any lens, always rinse clean. I have definitely scratched up some much more expensive glasses by not rinsing first in the past.

I made the mistake of looking for Rundisney on Reddit. Found a thread where they were talking about the marathon DNS and DNF numbers and how they were “wasted bibs”, Rundisney runners lack of training, it should be a requirement to have to run another marathon first to prove you can do it, etc., etc. Mean and hateful people over on Reddit!! 😡 Came back to the overwhelmingly supportive disboards family. Don’t think I’ll be venturing out from this safe space anytime soon!

As an aside I saw a lot of runners with beers in AK that they had snagged at Yak and Yeti. For my money there are still way too many miles left at that point to have alcohol running through my system, but I have to admit with the heat that day the beers looked awfully tasty!
100% agree on to many miles left at AK particularly with the heat this year. To compromise I stopped at the stand across from Everest and got there non alcoholic special drink a strawberry lemonade varient would highly recommend.

Interesting! If we get another Team Toasty year in 2027 maybe I will give that a look!

To be fair, if it's the recent thread I'm thinking about, that was mainly the OP's opinion, and they were being called out on it in the top ranked comments.

Unfortunately, in recent years, it has become harder to register for a lot of major races not just Disney. And when people are disappointed, they tend to lash out.

We're admittedly a cooler group than the Reddit folks (;)), a benefit of being a smaller community, but for the most part when I've stopped in there they're a supportive lot.

NOW the Let's Run and runnercirclejerk folks, they're a different story....

Be careful what you offer. You may very well run a marathon yourself going back and forth to the margarita stand!!

The best place in AK for a drink during the marathon is Thirsty River, conveniently located next to Everest. Perfect for grabbing one before or after you ride.

Yeah, there are, for sure, some extremely toxic people on that sub. I find myself unable to resist arguing with them on occasion though.

In exciting news….I bought my very first pair of goodr sunglasses at a running expo today. Guess I’m officially a runner now, huh?! 😂
I saw at PHM expo that Goodr finally made a pair with smaller frames and stupidly bought them, forgetting that Goodr’s polarized lenses do not play nicely with my contacts (which I didn’t have in at the time.) Can’t see without contacts or Rx glasses, so I’ve got a lovely pair of overpriced sunglasses I’ll probably never wear now!

I got a Coke on ice at Thirsty River one hot marathon and I swear, it remains the BEST Coke I’ve ever had - and I don’t even like Coke lol!

On our previous topic of quick-sellouts and Disney marketing races they aren’t having any trouble selling…

I was listening to a trail ultra podcast the other day and they were discussing some recent craziness with ultras changing courses last minute and canceling altogether. In the conversation about how each race was or was not compensating registrants they talked a bit about how different races seem to be targeting different audiences - UTMB was pointed out as seeming to want the one-and-done crowd more than repeat runners, despite having NO problem selling out every year. They didn’t dig much deeper as to why, but I thought it was interesting in light of rD seeming to want the same.

I started debating a split stay in the last week (during our 6-day weekend thanks to 4 snow/weather days that sandwiched the weekend) and am wondering if this is truly a DVC pipe dream: Is a BC studio possible to get at 7mo?

Right now I'm booked at Saratoga standard studio for Thursday-Sunday and then Sunday-Tuesday. It's currently split because we have 2 contracts with different UYs due to a really good deal and me being impatient with the resale market. (And I will call to combine them if I can't snag the split.) We are strongly considering trying to move the Sunday-Tuesday over to BC for something different, proximity to the parks, and a "new" pool. We stayed at BC about 10 years ago, so DS3 doesn't really have any memories of SaB because he was so young, and DD has never been.

While I'm also team "SaB is overrated," it's a resort that is near a lot of things and has a point chart that's close to SSRs, so I don't think I'd need to even buy OTU points. But I also know that it sells out for MW, and June is a long way off.

They HAVE?! Okay, I will need to check them out at SS then. Was it just one specific design/color way, or a whole line?

As the official mini Coke supplier of the WDW Marathon, I'll allow this.

I think Disney is always looking to find new customers across ANY channel. But in general in marketing keeping repeat customers loyal is cheaper and easier than attracting new ones. So it is interesting to me to watch that shift across Disney's segments. Cruise Line is obviously HEAVILY geared toward loyalty most of the time, but with all these new ships they are branching out to a more luxury customer. Their reversal on AP and Florida resident benefits during the pandemic, when they needed the guaranteed visitors, was also pretty remarkable.

Since returning after Covid, rD seemed to cater to the repeat runners, leaning into the Disney influencers and newbie runners who were already Disney fans. But I'm not sure they know WHAT to do with rD now that the larger running world has discovered (and likes) these races.

This is a curiosity question but where do people get an adult beverage during the last parts of the marathon to cross the finish line with it?

Just follow @FFigawi wherever he goes.

I’ve noticed a lot of bitter, elitist gatekeeping like this going on with respect to any race that sells out. I think it’s partially a sign of the times - there are angry, entitled people with lots of forums to post garbage opinions.

Running in general is so popular right now and people want to run popular races - Disney, NYC, Chicago. And there are many avenues to get in. So, obviously, some people aren’t going to get in. Unfortunately, I think resentment and jealousy lead to lashing out against charity runners, lottery runners, “slow” runners, etc.

That’s all BS of course. If you get in, you get in and you deserve to be there. My medal finishing at 18,750 counts the same as the finisher at 300.

People with a problem can eat sh*t.

I was able to get BC for Springtime through a waitlist. I can’t remember when it came through. The pool was closed at the time for refurb (so maybe easier to get at that time), but you could leave your reservations split, leave a waitlist in until the 31 (or more) day mark and then if it hasn’t come through, request that the SSR reservations be merged.
