I know there has been a lot of discussion on this forum about TMA and the fact that they are a charter airline who flies by their own rules. We are flying with them in 2 weeks and were very grateful they did not cancel our flights back in Sept. like some of you poor folks had to deal with. I'm not sure I would book with them again ( doesn't give me a very secure feeling knowing they could cancel my flight one week out!) but now we may have another option...
Apparently, beginning some time in February, USAIR will begin non-stop flights out of Syracuse into Orlando. Maybe some of the majors are willing to compete here - I'm hoping more will follow. My hope is that their fares will be lower (Airtran out of Rochester is still a good option otherwise). It would be nice to have the security of a major carrier with competitive fares, wouldn't it? Something to keep an eye on anyway. Hopefully, it will give us another option here in Syracuse...

That's great news! I'd really like to be able to fly in and out of Syracuse instead of driving to Rochester and Albany for an affordable ticket. I guess I'll have to hold off booking my summer trip.

Great to see you again.

I'm with you guys. I have always flown out of Albany with southwest for a direct, cheaper flight, and always see that Buffalo and Rochester are really cheap, but I don't want to drive 2 1/2 hours in the winter when we normally would go. I would love to see a non stop out of Syracuse besides TMA, but it also has to be competetive price wise. I have stated it numerous times here in the past, I just don't feel comfortable with TMA's cancellations even though they are cheap. Also, it would be nice to have a direct flight go into the Orlando airport rather than the farther Sanford.

USAir just to have the MetroJet service out of SYR back in 2000 and 2001 when I flew them it cost $235 the first time and $247 the other. Times of flights were good. They did this more then once a day. I'm going to look for my old tickets and I'll let you know what times they were back then.

Of course I just bought tickets for Sept 2004 out of Rochester but I only paid $155 round trip. I have not seen that out of Syr since I can remember...

Ok I went to the USAir website and found the press release dated 11/10/03 and it says they are starting non-stop flights to MCO from 5 Northeast cities.
It also says the flights will be on Saturdays ONLY.
Then I went to the section to look up prices and flight times thinking maybe they are there already since it was press released.
Here is what I found.
Depart SYR 11:50 am I did Sat 2/21
Arrive MCO 2:39 pm

Return
Depart MCO 3:30 pm I did Sat 2/28
Arrive SYR 6:10 pm

Not great flight times and here is the shocker
sticker shock....$366.50 one person round trip.

I am going to play around with some more dates I see what I can find.. I'll keep you posted.

Be sure and post how your TMA flights went.
We are using them in June for a flight to/from WDW. They just moved in to the smaller airport that is in Rockford, IL and do flights to Orlando and Las Vegas only.
That is such a shorter trip for us than to drive into Chicago's Ohare!
thanks!

Seems to be a lot of us on this board from SYR...even on other forums...maybe we should plan a meet...anyone interested? PM me!

Hi guys!:D
I will definitely post a TMA review when we get back for those interested.

Lori, I will stay on top of USair too and we'll see what happens when we get closer to Feb. They are going to have to do alot better than that to tempt us away from current options, aren't they?;)

jlp651 I'm sending you a pm!

CDisney I always enjoy seeing you and your family!

PrinceEric I read your TMA saga back in Sept. What a nightmare but glad you avoided a nasty situation and it came out okay!

Scott Thomas (pscalculator.net) often puts together meets for those in the Syracuse area. We have a great time and all are welcome! Anyone interested in being on his email list pm me and I will make sure he adds you to this list.
