We are new DVC owners. We purchased at VWL because it is our favorite resort. Also, I did not want to puchase SSR because I believe in the coming years, more SSR owners will want to stay at VWL, BC and BWV than vice versa. So, I was thinking a poll might be in order to see how others feel. Please post your opinion. Thanks!

I think that was pretty much confirmed a few weeks ago when around 80% (?) of SSR owners voted to stay at ALL resorts while most other owners voted around 40% (?) at ALL resorts-something along those lines anyway. Could search for that poll. Bottom line is if you want VWL you did the right thing.

I had not seen that poll. I will do a search for it. Thanks!

I own a little at both BWV and VWL for Dec 1-14 time frame.

my main resort is OKW.

In the summer time I can generally get any resort - just do it at 7 or 6 month times. don't wait until last minute - because at 60 days any unused villa at any DVC resort goes to CRO to be rented.

Early Dec - different story for me!

I have also used my BWV at Thankgiving time and during the food/wine festavial.

no one knows the future - you could easily be right - or the travel patterns could stay the same -

you want to be happy with your home resort - if you can only get that one particular resort - make sure you love it.

I love OKW - and I would be happy staying there regardless. Okay - I like to try different places....but that is not a need!

I hope those poll results help answer your question.

We always stay at our home of OKW because we like the large units, townhome feel versus the hotel feel of some of the other DVC resorts, and the parking outside your door. We stayed at SSR for one night last October, and it was nice, but we still preferr OKW. I live in a large log home, so VWL doesn't have the appeal to me that it does for others.

I'm confused. Where is the value in polling non-SSR owners on their opinions of the future booking habits of SSR owners?

Regardless, if you want to stay a VWL a lot, then you certainly did the right thing. But this proud SSR owner has no qualms about using his points at any resort that's part of the program. :teeth:

Well, congratulations on purchasing DVC. Welcome home, as they say.

But I do wish that you and other -- how shall I put this -- I'm going to get slammed no matter how I put it, so it doesn't matter, I suppose -- "smaller resort owners" would just get over the SSR phobia.

Some of us actually bought SSR because we like it (we like the spa and the proxmimity to DTD) and because that's where we intend to stay a great majority of the time.

Despite its good intentions, the previously-mentioned poll regarding SSR offered very, very (mis)leading options (compare it to the options offered regarding the other resorts, for example), and, at so early a stage in a resort's roll-out, means remarkably little anyway.

We can argue about all of this until the cows come home, but we just won't know anything until about anything until about five to seven years down the road, now, will we?

At that time, perhaps, we can talk in an educated way about the impact that the giganto-monstrosity-anti-Disney-SSR (the BIG BAD WOLF) has had on the ultra-precious DVC. But until then, it's all just a bunch of hot air.

Flame away. I just don't care anymore.

Kim I agree.

In the future - once everyone gets a little tired of the parks - I can see SSR being THE place to be.

give it time!!!

the resort is the best that DVC has gone - all top quality stuff.

Thanks, Kim, for saying it once again...We love SSR, too, and can't wait to stay there again in September. It is a destination in and of itself, with the bonus of being on Disney property!

Whew, thats a relief, here some us thought ressies at the smaller resorts were getting "harder" to obtain already. You really should have purchased SSR and just called VWL at 7 months since nobody at SSR is interested in VWL except you. :teacher:

I don't own at SSR, I own at OKW. However, I have seen SSR and think it is lovely. I don't think I would have any qualms about staying there, just like I have no qualms about staying at all the other DVC resorts, which I pretty much have. Each has their own special charm.

I htink those of us who are DVC owners osmetimes lose sight of how fortunate we are to have the ability to stay in any one of the DVC resorts. Each is exceptional in its own way.

I must have missed the grand revolt that occurred when SSR owners suddenly began to gobble up all of the rooms at other resorts at the 7-month window. :confused3

However you might perceive the system to be today has little bearing on how it will look in another 5 years or so. SSR is adding thousands of new members to the system--many of whom have never stayed at a DVC resort and wish to sample all or many of them before deciding on a favorite. This is clearly evidenced in the results of the poll cited where 65% of respondants indicated no strong resort preference.

In fact, only 1.02% of those who responded displayed a strong attraction toward VWL.

Kim hit the nail on the head with her comment: "We can argue about all of this until the cows come home, but we just won't know anything until about anything until about five to seven years down the road, now, will we?"

We just bought SSR but not for the resort we bought there for the incenstives just like when we bought Vero and HHI we could care less about the location we just wanted the points at the best possible price.

We own at BCV, VWL, and VB. We stayed at SSR last month and loved it. We always rent a car and loved the ease of getting to and from the car. We did not go to the parks on this trip but played golf and went to several spring training baseball games. We decided that for almost of our non-park trips (which is about 50%), we will stay at SSR. Also liked SSR's proximity to DTD and non-Disney restaurants, mostly along Vineland.

For those trips when we are going to parks, we have the 11-month window at BCV and VWL and the 7-month window at BWV. We haven't stayed at OKW yet because of the 2-beds in a studio set-up. Sometime when we are taking guests and need larger accommodations, we will probably try OKW.

That makes perfect sense for you. I could not agree more with you. But the OP wants to reserve VWL and is being told by some there is no effect on availability there from SSR owners, Okay maybe for the next 5 to 7 years, (you know like after your kids are grown and no longer want to go to MK as much) after that though you probably wont have as hard a time. :scratchin

We have goten VWL studio and 1 bedrooms at 3 months out from travel times without much of a problem not even a waitlist. So in essence it shouldn't really make much of a difference now or 10 years from now.

There is something for everyone. I bet that the amount of people that choose to go to VB, HH, concierge collection, other disney resorts, cruises, and those who trade out, those who bank and borrow etc. doesn't out weigh those whose choose to not go to ssr. In other words everyone isn't trading into BCVor WVL. Then add in that there is 365 days a year for all of us to choose from. I think it will be just fine. :goodvibes

I don't understand what it is you're trying to say here (primarily because of some missed punctuation, I think. There are at least two different ways to read the above-quoted part of your post.)

What people like tjkraz and I are saying is that until five to seven years have passed (a timeframe that allows for SSR to be fully opened, completely sold out, and really "up and running"), you will not be able to assess its impact on DVC.

To adopt alarmist tendencies in the meantime seems counterproductive and foolish.

The way many old-timers tell it, there has been much wailing and gnashing of teeth with the opening of every new DVC resort... and yet the SKY HAS NOT FALLEN -- not even with the addition of (gasp!) the non-WDW VB and HH resorts. Can't we just give this a rest?

Sheesh.

This is quite true. We have no intention of limiting ourselves to the DVC resorts. (So right there that's more WDW DVC inventory for everybody else!!)

But here's what's worse (or better, depending on your point of view): Sometimes... when DH and I travel to Orlando... (ducking) we go to US/IOA and stay at Portofino Bay. We don't always do Disney. Just don't tell anyone, okay? It'll be our little secret!! :earboy2:
