Arriving at Yacht Club on Friday. Reservation states "guest request non smoking - not guaranteed. Since 13 yr old DS has asthma and can not stay in smoking room I called to see if I could get a guarantee. Was told no but most rooms are non-smoking so should be able to get one. Has anyone had problems getting non-smoking? Should I send a fax?

One more YC question. Does each room come with refrig or have to request?Believe it or not, same son had kidney stone last week and Dr. said dehydration cause more stones so we want to keep lots of cold water in room.

All deluxes come with a refrigerator now. If one is not in your room when you check in simply request one and it will be sent to your room at no charge. I think if you have a medical reason then the non-smoking room is guaranteed but I've never had this problem and I've always requested a non-smoking room.

You shouldn't have any problems getting a nonsmoking room. I requested nonsmoking for each of our last 4 trips because of our babies and the request was granted each time. Seems like the CM could make a note of your child's asthma on the reservation so that when your room is assigned the CM will pay particular attention.

My son and daughter both have asthma and we've stayed onsite at OKW, Poly, and AKL...we have not had a problem at any of them..however, I do fax a letter a few days before reiterating the need and for us I have to point out that I do not want the "super cleaning" they give a room for people with smoke concerns. The chemicals in their super cleaning also trigger an attack..so you might want to note that as well if you think that might hurt you guys. On other hotels we have been guaranteed nonsmoking and when I walk in there is a 'smell' of smoking....I've spent 2 hours trying to find other rooms and in that time my son went into an attack...I never expected 2 hours in a room with a slight smell would offset him..didn't want him sitting in the car after a long day of travelling...but it does happen and that time we had to spend 2 of our Disney vacation days trying to get him breathing well enough to walk. Some folk just don't understand how serious it is when they smoke..even on the balcony of a non-smoking room- it's on their clothes and you can't keep that smoke from not entering even the rooms above them....nuff said...but I think you'll be fine...free fridge...in the past we used to have to say it was for medical purposes (his steroid had to be refrigerated) and they had it there no problem..but now it's free no matter what.

Enjoy..hope he has a fine time with his breathing! We also try to stock his lungs up with Advair the few weeks before we go just to help minimize an attack.

If you did not tell CRO CM that there was a medical reason for the non-smoking request when you made your reservation call back and get it added to your reservation now to avoid a problem at check in. While it is unusual to be given a smoking room when non-smoking has been requested based on what I have read here on the DIS it has happened.
Those few cases when it has happened the posters report that no matter how much the room has been cleaned [or sprayed] the smoke odor just won't go away and in some cases the spray used has been as much a problem for the person with asthma or allergies as the smoke odor.

We requested non-smoking last year at the BC last year and did not get it. The room reeked and we were moved the next day. We checked at 7 PM on the Saturday night of Memorial Day weekend and I'm assuming they were at full capacity. We did not have a medical condition.

We stayed there in December and I was also told it was not guaranteed, but I then told the CM that my 2 yr old has asthma and it was imperative that we have a non-smoking room. We had no problems getting one.|

And yes, the refigerators are now available in the Yacht and Beach Club rooms :)

Have a great trip!

My son has asthma and our reservation has always stated Non-Smoking Guaranteed Medical Reasons.

I would call and let them know that the request is for medical reasons.

If you call them back and tell them that it's imperative due to medical reasons, specifically asthma they will guarantee the non-smoking.

We've always requested non-smoking and have never had a problem. DH, DS and I all have asthma. When I booked this year's trip and requested non smoking guaranteed, the CM questioned me whether it was a medical issue. I told her, yes, asthma, and she did put down guaranteed non smoking. I remember the good old days, not that long ago, when there was no smoking allowed in the rooms, and all smokers went to Swan and Dolphin. I'd like to see those days come back.
