I know it is a bad habit and you hate it, but smokers are being considerate of you by following the rules and smoking only in the designated smoking areas. Please try to be just as considerate to smokers by NOT camping out in a DSA because of it's shade or seating. There are plenty of places to sit at the parks but very few DSA's. And please don't complain about the smoke if you are in a DSA.

The number of smokers not following the rules and trying to hide it while not in DSAs is mind boggling on some days. It's just a matter of time until the DSAs are removed from all parks. Tokyo is already on board and removes the areas when it is really busy. Hollywood Studios has recently removed some areas. The smoking itself does not bother me as long as its not blown in my face. It just baffles me why some think they can light up wherever a smoker wants.

I would bet that the vast majority of nonsmokers you're seeing in a DSA do not know they are in one. And might not know of the existence of such things. The ONLY reason I know Disney has smoking sections is because I read maps and because of the Dis. It's not something I need or want, so otherwise I wouldn't know.

And please don't complain about the smoke if you are in a DSA.

So we aren't allowed to have physiological reactions to a toxin just because there's a sign? Interesting idea, and I get that many smokers think that coughing is some passive aggressive thing we do that we don't have to do, but I assure you, it's a very real reaction and cannot be controlled. As is the asthma I tend to get if I don't hold my breath the instant I notice cigarettes. Both very very real.

Well, I am a smoker who follows the rules. Just came back from 6 days and didn't see a single person smoking in a non-DSA. On the other hand, I saw a LOT of non-smokers taking up space in DSA's and then having the nerve to complain about the smoke.
By the way, the exhaust fumes from the trolley about choked me to death!

If smokers stay in DSA, I promise to not complain:thumbsup2 But I have a MAJOR problem with those who light up as they walk blowing that nasty pollution in my face. Yes its a nasty habit, but its your right, as well as mine to breathe clean air. I can personally say that I would never sit in a dsa to escape sun. Oh yeah, and bus stops are not a DSA in case anyone didn't already know.

I'm also a rule abiding smoker and I have to agree with this. Maybe I've just been too busy enjoying myself to notice, but I've never seen anyone smoking outside the DSA's in all the times I've been to Disney. Unless parking lots count? I have seen people smoking in the parking lots while walking to their cars. I have overheard numerous non-smokers complaining about the smoke in the DSA's though. Particularly the one by Aloha Aisle in MK. I do not think that should be a DSA. It's too close to Aloha Aisle and people will naturally want to sit on the benches in the shade and enjoy their Dole Whips.

I witnessed many on our last trip. Either at bus stop or they step 2 steps outside like it makes a difference. I'd have no complaints if smokers stayed in the DSAs. I'd still hold my breath and run past, but no complaints. Now I will agree about the trolley, I almost passed out after riding.

I smoke and only smoke in a DSA. Earlier this month I went to the DSA near Sir Mickey's, sat on one of the benches, and the woman sitting on the other end turned and said "I hope you don't smoke. I can't be around it. I'm just waiting for a friend to finish." and then asked me to move. :confused3 I did, as I'm not one to willingly throw someone into an asthmatic fit (or whatever her condition was), but did find it incredibly odd that she willingly sat in a DSA and then asked all those around her to move.

It is rude to walk through a DSA gagging and coughing loudly, proclaiming loud enough for those in a 1/2 mile radius to hear "it's a smoking section, move quick!". I understand most come to the areas unknowingly but for the most part we're tucked away in a corner somewhere.

Thanks! And I agree with you about the DSA across from Aloha Aisle

While I don't agree that nonsmokers should be barred from sitting in smoking sections entirely, if they are aware that it's a smoking section they should not complain to the smokers about the smoke in the smoking section. Smokers who are indulging in a smoke while inside a DSA are following the rules. It's not the smokers' fault if nonsmokers don't like the rules.

about the nonsmoker sitting in the smoking area and then asking smokers to move because she couldn't be around smoke...even though she knew she was in a designated smoking area, because she was waiting for her friend to finish smoking. If she's aware that it's a smoking area, then she should move, not the smokers. If she wants shade she can go into the store and her friend can let her know when they finish smoking.

I'd think those who have a problem with the fact that there are smokers in a designated smoking area should go right down to Guest Services and complain about the smoking section if they want it moved or they just want the sections banned.

I could care less who smokes and I avoid the smoking areas. I'm shocked to hear you never saw anyone smoking outside of the designated areas. I've yet to have one trip where I've encountered such politeness.

Exactly! Most DSA's at WDW are few and far between and not in good locations! And that was VERY rude of that woman you mentioned. I would have had to point out to her that she was indeed seated in the DSA and would not have moved.

I was with you until you said you get uncomfortable when you see obese people eating....I am not obese but these 2 are not the related at all

I am a reformed smoker that sits in the DSA's just to smell the smoke becasue yes i do miss it.

That obese person can make me sick at my stomach, so yes, it does affect me.

As for being prejudicial, I find that more and more non-smokers are that way. Instead of turning this into a fight, just be more tolerant and considerate of smokers who follow the rules of using a DSA. That's all I meant by starting this conversation.

Majority of smokers are generous, so the non smokers are thankful for that. There are some areas in which the smoke does travel, smokers aren't the to blame for that if . Most areas are okay. Speaking for the MK, I don't understand why the DSA next to the castle or the Aloha area. High traffic areas and the area next to the castle often has so many children. The one near the Frontierland tracks (walkway) is not highly utilized. There are others that spread out nicely all around the park. I saw a lady crouching low next to a garbage can near Dumbo yesterday to get some puffs in (non e-cig) and then ran to catch up with her family.

I don't smoke...

But if I did and I was in a DSA and a non-smoker had the nerve to ask me not to light up I would have pointed out that THEY are sitting in a smoking area. There are only a handful of areas one can smoke and the rest of the park is non-smoking. So if they just HAVE to sit right there, then they can deal with people smoking.

People on both sides of the debate can be jerks. You have smokers who seem to think that they can smoke anywhere they want. Then you have non-smokers who think they have the right to tell smokers what they can and can not do in the areas put aside for smoking.

Ditto :thumbsup2

Oh, I did see a few people "vaping", but not much. They were supposed to be in DSA's also but weren't.

Hope everyone enjoys their next visit to WDW, smoker or non-smoker.

I'll be looking forward to my trip to Universal where they treat smokers a lot better! Most of their DSA's do have seating and shade and some even have fans to help cool off with!

Your comments on obese people are completely off topic & have nothing to do with DSAs as evidenced by the swift removal of your post. I would hope you realize that comments such as that only lessen your credibility when trying to discuss an issue which you obviously feel very strongly about. If you want people to respect your opinions & give serious consideration to your requests, perhaps you should remain on topic.
