I have 2 nights booked at ASMu in Nov. I will be solo. What is one of the closest sections I can request that is not preferred. I don't want to be coming in late at night and have to go to the back side of the hotel. I will have an ECV. I really want to be facing the pool.

The two prefered buildings are the Calypso buildings, which are the closest and some have pool views.
The next closest are the Jazz Inn buildings, which would work best for you, especially if you request, and get, a ground floor room. You won't have too much views of any pools in these buildings. If you really wanted a pool view, you would need to go much further out.
You could request the Calypso building, but they may not honor that request. I know of people that did not book prefered rooms but got them anyway by requesting them. Of course, if all the prefered rooms are booked, you will have no chance at all.

Personally, I've never found much need for any view type rooms at value resorts anyway, as the only view would be to open the curtains and stare out the front window. It's even worse if you are not on the ground floor. Then you get a lovely view of the railing.

The rooms in All Stars are not as spread out as Pop. Tonberry is about any view type I really think they are all the same.

Yeah, the Jazz section is going to be your closest building with standard rooms, but it doesn't really have a view of any kind. Its view is really just the walkway between the two pools. It might be possible if you got a room on the corner of either side of the building that you might have a pool-ish view, Calypso pool to one side or Piano pool to the other, but even then I think the little pool house buildings would block you.

We stayed in Jazz last December, but we requested top floor and the backside of the hotel specifically to be away from pool noise since we were there during the Pop Warner championships. It was actually very nice and quiet. We had the back corner room by the stairwell that led out to the parking lot area.

I'm not worried about the view. I being alone, and will be coming back late at night, I don't want to have to go behind the building. I figure there will be more activity if I am facing the pool. People will be walking through that area.

Jazz is preferred now. It has been for several months. Your next closest I believe is Broadway. We stayed in building 8 and the walk wasn't bad at all to the main building.

Wow, that's a pretty recent change. We had requested Broadway for December (since we're theatre nerds), and when we got our room text and saw Jazz, I assumed we got an upgrade, then when I looked on the touring plans room locator thing, it showed the one we were staying in was, in fact, a standard, and that Jazz still had several standard rooms. But when I go on there now and search for standard rooms for ASMu, Jazz doesn't light up anymore. That's a shame. Ours was a great room for the price.

Right now Touring Plans shows standard in Broadway, Country and Rock and no rooms face a pool.

At online check in I believe you can ask for any of them above, or could say close to transportation and which floor.

Last time I stayed Sports I opted to not pick a section and just say close to transportation and it worked out well getting me in Surfs Up.

It was actually preferred in December, you got an upgrade!

Here's a post in the All Star Music thread from July of last year. I guess it's been preferred a lot longer than I thought!

I know it was preferred when we went at Thanksgiving 2016 because I was trying to request Jazz and they told me then it was all preferred.
Wow! Haha, they probably looked at our reservation and went, "Hmm 2 adults and no kids, maybe we shouldn't stick them in the middle of the Pop Warner folks!" I definitely appreciated that little bit of pixie dust then!

Well I called yesterday and there are no preferred left. I let them know my concerns, I know they know nothing really about the resort, (call Center), but at least it is on my reservation. I will state my concerns when I get there. I may ask for an escort, if I feel scared.
