Non park vacation

We are heading to SSR the last week of Jan. for a non park relaxing vacation. We have had 2 park vacations with the kids and grandkids this year so we are ready to get out of the cold and just relax. We will have a car for part of the trip. Suggestions for non park things to do? TIA

I enjoy unleashing my right-brain on the no-park visits: Pack a sketch pad and a water-color paint kit. Focus on replicating certain visual details of the architecture, landscaping, whimsy ... or captures a large scale impression. It will amaze you how many things you "see" when you start to consider drawing them!

Without the expense of park tickets, you could hit many of the great restaurants around the resorts. I'd like to rent a boat next time around the 7 seas lagoon....always say I'm going to and run out of time. Monorail pub crawl (for adults only ....looking to do this next trip as well). Fireworks cruises, Movies by the stars.......SLEEP!

Obviously DTD.....Boardwalk at night...Rent a surry bike....community hall/resort activities.

And here's the kicker.....Check out a DVC resort you've never stayed at!

We have done a couple of non-park SSR trips and we really loved them! Things we did:
- Hoop Dee Doo Revue
- monorail loop
- boats to neighboring resorts for a walk and a meal
- massages

- Fishing on Big Lake Toho
- Off site restaurants, Charlies, Agave Azul.
- Kennedy Space Centre (Nice Drive)

it'd be the season to swim with the manatees at Crystal River, amazing experience.

drive to the beach (either coast) is do-able

enjoy one of the water-parks or check out one of the other parks in the area (Universal-although I believe that time frame is running into a HP celebration when it'd be crowded, Sea World, even Busch Gardens)

Carriage rides, hay rides (bunch of folks), marshmallow roasts (VGF or the Fort are good ones, never been to the Poly's)

Since you'll have a car, you might consider making the 30 minute drive to the Disney Wilderness Preserve-no admission charge. My last non-park trip was without a car, so I just bus-hopped via park bus stops from resort to resort. Also, went to DTD one morning-it's much less crowded in the morning, and Ghiardelli's Gold Rush makes a great lunch!

We love going to Winter Park beautiful town with great restaurants and boutique window shopping. We also went to the Tiffany museum. If you love stained glass you will enjoy this.
