Ok here goes. I want to hear about everyones non park fun ideas!!! I know from reading some of these threads people have found lots of fun neat things to do when not at one of the parks. I would love to hear everyones thoughts!! :cool1:

Depending on what you want to spend and what resort you are at there are a few things you can do. What first comes to mind is what we do, rent a surry bike for your family and ride through the resort grounds or rent a boat and check out WDW by boat.
We sometimes go from resort to resort just to walk through them or grab a bite to eat in one of the resorts.
I'm sure others will have more ideas too...

*Rent a canoe @ Ft. Wilderness and take a scenic ride through the back streams :)

*Go to the Beach Club and get ice cream at Beaches and Cream and then follow that with participating in the campfire program/singalong on the Beach Club beach in the evening.... which also has a movie to follow on the inflatable screen :)

*Go to DTD and make a delicious creation @ Goofy's Candy Co. while wandering the shops.

*Explore the different resorts and make ADR's or do CS at a different one so you can try them out.

*Play mini-golf @ one of the 2 mini-golf locations.

*Kids can do a Pirate Adventure Cruise at specified resorts (ie. Port Orleans? and YC/BC, GF)

That's all that's coming to me at the moment.... there are plenty more :) and I'm sure others will post :goodvibes

Enjoy your trip! :)

We like to visit the different resorts sometimes just to kick around. We rent the water mice, ride the surrey bikes, play mini golf, hang at the pool, let the kids play in the arcade, go to DTD and/or DQ. DH and DS have done the fishing excursion. There is also parasailing, tea at the GF, the kids pirate cruise and the carriage ride. Another cool thing to do is the campfire at FW to roast marshmallows.

We did the surry bike too. - DS loved it so much, we did it again another day!

Also, the boat to DTD was great.

DH and I did mini-golf a long time ago, and that was fun, too.

Someday, I'd also like to tour the resorts we haven't stayed at.

there's so many

-mini golf
-disney quest
-browsing though the stores in downtown disney
-swimming

- and my personal fav, visiting other hotels, on rainy days or on lazy days we love to lobby hop and see all the different hotels, this is fun for kids too because they find all the different places and themes(and gift shops) intresting

Our fave was eating dinner at the Poly then grabbing a hammock to watch fireworks from the beach WOW what an awesome experience. Like a private showing :)

We also went to Fort Wilderness and ate at the cafeteria and watched a movie for free and enjoyed a campfire.

Kissimees Old Towne is a neat place too. Saturday Night Cruise is fun at Old Towne

Grab lunch or dinner at Beaches and Cream near the boardwalk if I remember correctly. Then walk around and enjoy the boardwalk and entertainment

Just explore and have fun :)

what do you mean by cafeteria at fort wildereness?? if you ate at trial's end that's not a cafeteria

We ate at a place where it was a cafeteria buffet type setting. When I think cafeteria style eating I think of carrying a tray and going down a line getting my food...

OK...we have never been to Trail's End. Is it really cafeteria style? If so, then I think we may never try it. Did you have to find your own table, get your own drinks, clean up after yoiurself, etc. like you would in a cafeteria setting? :confused3

What is the children's pirate adventure cruise and how would I sign DGS (4) up for this? I love to walk around the grounds at the Pop and All Star (all of them are fun). If you have children in your group this will go over pretty well. grab an ice cream, or other snack, from the food court and wander around. Fun to see all the icons. Also, most hotels have playgrounds for the children. Great way for young ones to get out some of that stored up energy. The playgrounds have benches if you would like to sit while your children play. Take a boat ride from Magic Kingdom to Fort Wilderness and stroll through the area where they have the horses. Then go back on the boat. Fun for kids and free too. Have a magical trip.

We enjoyed visiting downtown Celebration (town/city). Its close to DTD.

http://www.celebrationtowncenter.com/ee/

this is why we went:

Celebration was founded in 1994, it’s a master planned community south of Orlando near Walt Disney World in central Florida and provides a unique environment. Celebration is a community built on a foundation of cornerstones: Community, Education, Health, Technology, and a Sense of Place.Zoned for permanent residents (no short term rental), Celebration was developed by The Walt Disney Company.

Named America's 2007 Dream Town, Celebration is connected directly to the Walt Disney World parks and resorts by World Drive; the north end of World Drive begins near the Magic Kingdom and its south end connects to Celebration Boulevard, allowing residents and guests to drive to Disney property without having to use any busy highways.

The History behind Celebration (top)

Celebration was intended to fulfill Walt Disney's original vision for EPCOT as an experimental location where people could live. Instead of using Disney's vision for EPCOT which was based on modernism and futurism, the town uses the concept of "New Urbanism" to emphasize parks, sidewalks, and a mix of residential and commercial space.

The bank, the post office, the town hall, the movie theater, and other downtown buildings were designed by renowned architects. The majority of homes are within one mile of the downtown area. Segway scooters and small electric cars called "NEVs" ("Neighborhood Electric Vehicle") are common.

Community events are held downtown throughout the year; for example, during the Christmas season it "snows" on Market Street (bubbly foam blown from machines on the lampposts).

The community has 7 different denominations churches. There is also a hospital (Celebration Health) and a fire station in Celebration. An eighteen-hole golf course winds through the town.

The philosophy behind the town is that it is to be a friendly, neighborly place, drawing its design and its sensibility from such places as Savannah, Georgia, Nantucket, Massachusetts, and Charleston, South Carolina. The master plan was developed by: Robert A M Stern Architects and Cooper Robertson & Partners, both of New York City.

Off site if you have a car is Kid Town and the older teens and young adults, even my 12 year old LOVED the Mideviel Times. food was good and the jousting, nights and gave a flower to my ladies, they were thrilled.
I heard dolly's horses was great too.

There is a structure that is upside down going towards sea world, anyone know about what is in that? I heard some cool stuff?

DTD, Earl Of Sanwich, shops, Lego land,

Hidden Mickey finds

The fountains at Epcot, led lights in the sidewalk leaving Innovations area. Sitting having a mexican snack and watching the fireworks.

having the pictures taken with Simba, Tinkerbell and others in childrens arms and hands.

My kids love the arcades and you can buy a card for them with a limit.

First let me say the FOOD IS GREAT! Somewhere I read they have some of the same things served at Hoopity Doo Revue(forgive spelling) We were seated and I the wait person brought the drinks but we had to get our own food from the buffet line. It is well worth trying IMHO After you eat then check out the hayride or free movies :) If you have a fishing pole people were fishing at the docks too...

Taken straight from the Dis:
Ahoy! Any child who has ever dreamed of being part of a pirate adventure will enjoy "heading out to sea" in pursuit of treasure.

Children ages 4-12 will be outfitted with a red/white striped pirate Mickey hat (or a bandana) and board their pirate ship (pontoon boat) under the supervision of the "pirate" crew. At each "port of call" a new treasure awaits. At the final stop, they can share their booty while enjoying lunch. At least two Cast Members accompany the children, which are all CPR certified. All participants must be potty trained. (No Pull-ups.)

Lunch is usually Peanut butter and jelly Uncrustables, Goldfish crackers, Rice Krispee Treat and fruit punch juice box

Disney's Pirate Adventure - Grand Floridian Dock on Mondays, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. The two hour voyage begins at 9:30am

You can book this 180 days in advance by calling 407-WDW-DINE (407-939-3463)

The cost is $30.01 per child, a credit card is required at the time of booking, and parents must sign a waver upon arrival. Cancellation policy is 24 hours in advance and no show/ not canceled 24 hours in advance, is full charge.

**Young pirates must show up at the marina by 9:15am for the 9:30 voyage

Sounds good. We had only heard of Trail's End in the past year and its one of the few places we haven't been to. We'll have to try it out. ;)

Riding the monorail to the Contemporary to watch the fireworks and then taking the boat across to WL was fun.
Also the campfire at FW was great- expecially when they show the older movies; its such a great tradition!
There is also a campfire & storytelling at AKL as well as nightwatching the animals on the savannah.
We like to tour around the next hotel we are planning to stay at.

Have a great time

thanks for the wonderful ideas, now we just need to stay another week so we could try them all!!! :cool1:

We had friends do this last time they were there and we plan to do it our next trip. They went to Beaches & Cream at the Beach Club Resort and made a Kitchen Sink. Their girls got to help create it and it was one of the highlights of their trip.
