Non-members blatantly using facilities

This is the type of necro-posting that I live for
In this case it is a good one because the security of the pools is much better now than when this thread was originally started. Proof DVC does get things fixed once and a while. I would say things were noticeable better even before COVID.

Funny this 2008 post was revived but, I suspect a lot of people have seen or experienced something similar. I know we did several years at Wilderness Lodge. Same scenario of local guy on phone bragging about impulsively popping over to WL to enjoy the pool after work.

All quite pools at any resort are easily accessible to anyone off the street. I have met some and reported them. The feature pools are harder but the ones at SSR and BWV are quite easily accessed. If someone is quite, not being rambunctious, and making sure those with them are doing the same - they can get away with being there without issues.
IMHO, this is the same as someone parking at DTD and taking a bus to one of the parks to avoid paying for parking.

Just going off my recent experiences over the past few years at BLT, OKW, and AKL there is generally no one at the gate checking guests. You could walk in behind anyone else going into the pool area and as long as you did not raise a stink, I doubt any of the CM's would notice. If you sat outside the pool area and loitered waiting around until someone else went to the pool so you could follow them, then they might suspect you. But as long as you approached looking like you belonged and came in behind someone else, I have never observed a CM asking to see a MB or Keycard proving you belong.

Years ago, I had family join me once at SSR. That was ignorance on my part. I assumed they were allowed as long as they were with a DVC person - the same way they were allowed into my room, or to go to a restaurant, or use any other facility. The pool was not at capacity; there were plenty of open chairs and tables. No one said anything to us then or stopped us. They even participated in some of the CM-led games (really, we were the ONLY ones participating). The only way I ever found out it was a no-no was when I read about it on these boards.

I doubt I would have made an issue about it with anyone else doing it unless as I mentioned, there were no chairs, or they were hogging the ping-pong tables, or otherwise causing disruption to others.

I work out at a gym with two floors of equipment and one very small area for personal training. It's the only area of the gym that's off limits to anyone. Inevitably, there's always someone in there using the VERY small amount of equipment reserved for people working out with a trainer- and yes, they pay far more than the normal gym fees for this privilege.

The trainers know exactly who's in there who shouldn't be but they rarely say anything. Which drives me nuts.

So that's how I feel about the OP's issue.

We just returned from the Boardwalk and I overheard a disturbing conversation. Some guy was sitting by the pool's edge talking to a woman about how the Boardwalk has the best Disney pool. One word leads to another, and she asks him if he's in the Villas or Inn. He says they aren't staying at any Disney property. They live about eight miles away and use the pool whenever they want. She tells him Disney doesn't allow this and he responds that "Disney would never turn anybody away." When I told my husband, he got angry. Said we've paid over $25K for DVC, and this guy just waltzes in with his family whenever he wants.

Just curious about anyone else's feelings on this? Should I have told someone? Is the guy right: Would Disney look the other way?
If they were not a DVC member either they or someone from their family got hurt while using the pool the resort would get sued. Which in turns means the insurance would go up and that is paid thru your dues. I would report them and they should not just asked to leave but get trespassed so that if they did it again it would be a fine.

I'm pretty sure I saw that guy using the pool again on my last trip!

Here's what he looks like: He was about 5'10" or 5'11"ish and wearing a dark colored bathing suit. If anyone else sees him, report him to a CM.
