We're heading to the beach for vacation this summer. :beach:

I have yet to find a sunscreen that does not run into my eyes when I swim, causing them to sting and burn. I'd love to hear your suggestions on the best option that won't irritate our eyes.

Also, I love the sprays to use for the rest of the body. Are there any scent-free versions? I know some like the smell of sunscreen, but I just don't.

I don't use regular sunscreen on my face - I use a moisturizer that contains SPF 30. Right now I'm using Neutrogena, but there are lots of variations available. None that I've used have ever run into my eyes, whereas the regular sunscreens always do.

Neutrogena has a great face stick that isn't irritating to the eyes.

I'll add another endorsement of Neutrogena. Their Ultra-Sheer formula does not run, and is great for the face.

My son has very sensitive skin so we use Aveeno sunscreens. The ones that are fragrance free, dye free etc...

A tip to keep it from running is to apply it 20 mins before going out so that it has time to absorb into your skin as opposed to just sitting on the skin.

I think I'd be more likely to apply it early if it really was fragrance free. I usually try to get it done early, but half my crew (although old enough to know better) still fights me over putting any on at all. And in the FL sun, it's just not optional.

I've been using Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist for a few years. I like it a lot better than most of the others I have tried, but it still has a sunscreen smell to it.

The face stick is a good idea. I have been using a tube of Neutrogena for a while for faces, but maybe stick would be less likely to run.

Do you know if that line comes in a spray?

I don't know because the sprays usually have alcohol or other drying agents in them so he can't use them. I am actually going to pick some up in a bit so I will check :)

I would appreciate that. Thanks! Where do you buy yours, in case I have any trouble finding it?

waterbabies. we've used it for years w/no problems.

I use Alba Botanica's sunscreen, it's awesome. I've never had a problem with it running into my eyes and it's tear free. They also make it in a spray.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I just checked the cabinet and see that I have been using Banana Boat Baby for our faces. I'm sure I got it because it said it won't sting eyes. But it still did. So definitely time to try something else.

Depends on the sunscreen. It doesn't necessarily have to be absorbed, but that most chemical sunscreens react with the proteins in skin. Physical sunscreens like titanium dioxide or zinc oxide are effective immediately, and don't break down. The drawback is that pasty white/silvery look.

I have yet to find a sunscreen that works that's not sticky, smelly and non irritating! I'm being to think I have a sunscreen sensory! Smh...

I find that it runs into the eyes. I remember when original Bullfrog was one of the first that wouldn't run, but it also used beeswax. Just perfect for a college kid with an acne problem. It also smelled like citrus. Coppertone Sport was also extremely good at not running into eyes, but that's changed so much over the years. I don't know how to describe other than it was almost like a gel and had a weird perfume odor. If you rubbed it too hard it would come off like dead skin.

I don't think any manufacturers are allowed to market as "no run" any more. Also notice they don't say "waterproof" any more, because they never were. It always comes off slowly in the water or when sweating. It might not sting the eyes if it comes off slowly enough, but I know that feeling when it does. Just a couple of days ago I rubbed my eyes and the sunscreen on my hand got into my eyes.

I use and have never had issues with sensitive skin or stinging with Neutrogena Pure & Free face stick. It is one of the few my kids don't fight. They have a new line of Kids Wet Skin stuff and this year have added a face stick to that line. I buy that line for pool days as it works best for reapplying.
