Non-Hotel Guests at Pool?

Our next trip to Disneyland will be a true "Disneyland Vacation" rather than "staying with cousins and spending a day at Disney".

We are planning to stay at one of the hotels on site.

Is it possible for our cousins to come swim with us at the hotel pool, or do they ensure that it is registered guests only?

Also, can we use the pools at other hotels, or only the one we are registered at?

Thanks!

Registered guests with a room key only are permitted at the resort hotel pools. Would not wanna be on the vacation of my life to paying top dollar to have it opened up to a community swim day by others.

Could you sneak them in?...possibly...but of it is a busy day they may be checking all for key cards.

You can not pool-hop. You only have access to your hotel's pool (unless it it is closed for refurb for some reason, then you have access to other resort pools)

Thanks!

I figured as much, but thought I'd ask.

Its hard trying to figure out how to balance expected family time when we're on OUR vacation! (Coincidentally vacationing 10 minutes from said family.)

If your family hasn't met the maximum number of guests for your hotel room, you could add your cousins to the reservation. That way, they'd have a room key and be eligible to come to the pool with you.

During most of the trips to Disneyland at resort hotels , we often meet up with my Uncle from San Diego. He meets up with us at the hotel and goes swimming. Whenever he does, we always inform the front desk and they've never had an issue with it.

Hmmm... Can they afford a night at the hotel? Maybe you could chip in a 50.00 gift card? Because the resort pools ARE really awesome and in my opinion, they are one of the things that justify that high cost.

My key card or the door was broken during our stay at the Disneyland Hotel and another guest who noticed me struggling with it let me in. There was no one around to check keys and I am pretty sure that the lifeguards aren't going to either.

I just got back from staying at Paradise Pier in the concierge level and was told that we could use the pool at the Disneyland Hotel (ours was not closed down). He said we could not use the pool at the Grand Californian. He told me this on our last day there so we did not get a chance to try it.

I know that the only time we were told we could use another hotel's pool was when we stayed at the DLH and the pool was closed for maintenance. They told us we could use the GCH pool. We would have to show our hotel key. We didn't feel like trekking through DTD with all of our pool stuff, so we never used it.

I stayed with my family at the Disneyland Hotel this month, and no one paid the slightest attention when we went to the pool. I'm not saying you should let all your non-guest friends in, but if you let in a few family members who are not guests, no one is going to check and see if you all have keys.

Your room key will not open the gate at other hotel pools.

You were misinformed. As a guest of Paradise Pier, you were not allowed in the pool at the Disneyland Hotel.

I wouldn't be surprised if one hotel was close to capacity and the other wasn't, or if the CM knew some maintenance on the pool would be starting later that day that they might give that tip to some guests to lessen the impact, but still not make it widely known. As a general rule, don't count on pool hopping, but I wouldn't automatically assume the CM was wrong.

This really depends on how busy it is. There have been plenty of people who has said they have had to show keys for their entire party.

I just called the concierge and spoke to the person who said that we could use the Disneyland Hotel pool and he verified that we can pool hop. Then I called the front desk and she said you could only go over there if a pool was under construction. So who do you believe??? If I was told I could go over there and I did and got turned away I would be upset. Not that we had time to pool hop with all the time we spent in the parks!

We've had to show keys for our entire party, probably about 25-30% of the time. Usually the pool guest CMs (not life guards, they are in khaki colored shorts) make their rounds to check if too many lounges are in use. We have seen people asked to leave.

We have also been told we could pool hop IF we rented cabanas. Otherwise, it is a no. It would be a pain if you walked all the way over, then your key doesn't work, and they ask you to leave.

Perhaps it was because the concierge-level guests get other special amenities? (Not sure if they typically allow concierge-level guests to pool-hop, just a general guess that maybe different workers at different levels are allowed to suggest different things? Kind of like I'd expect that a front desk person wouldn't be able to credit my room for a serious issue, but the manager would... Or like how not all CMs can be a plaid.)

You cannot pool hop at the Disneyland Resorts unless there is an issue with the pools at your hotel. I stayed at the Concierge level at the DLH a week ago and there was no pool hopping.

As far as checking room keys, I can only speak to my own experience last week, which was no one gave us a second glance when we entered the pool gate. I would think that August is one of the busiest times for the pools.

You can't pool hop but if you book a cabana like Malcon10t said, you can experience the other pools. Not even with concierge level so I don't know why a CM would tell you that. We stay at GCH and get a half day cabana at DLH for the kids on our off day, the only time we were allowed to pool hop was when we stayed in the Arcadia suite with a celebrity friend and they let us go to DLH pool with a CM escorting us.

You will most likely be dissappointed trying to legitimately go to the other pool. We have always seen people sneaking in but that's their values and morals. What you teach your children is what they emulate, so if you're a sneak they will be too.

You can have 5 people on your room reservation, so just add your family and it will be fine at the pool at your hotel.

I would not pool hop unless I was told I could. I would not invite guests from other resorts to go swimming. My big issue is small children in the hot tub and not being watched by adults. While I was in the hot tub 2 young girls got in and treated it like a pool. They would go under the water. I ask them where their parents were because they were too young to be in it without a parent watching. Sign says children under 14 need to be supervised by an adult. They got their mom to watch them and the next day they saw me again and got their dad to watch them. A hot tub is not a pool. It bothered me that the life guards did nothing to prevent this. These parents would be the first ones to blame Disney if something happened to their kids.

Your room key will only work at your hotel pool, it will not let you into another resort pool. When we reserved a cabana, we went to the front desk and explained that we had rented a cabana and we were given a 1 day card that would allow us in the gate at the pool.

I guess I don't understand why someone would want to do this. Maybe because I tend to be more on the "lazy :)" side, but when I get back to the Hotel and want to go take a swim it would be to relax and have some chill time. Maybe get cooled off, lay on a lounge chair for a bit and then head upstairs to a nap is more my idea. The last thing I would want to do would be walk back from another Hotel, wet and sloshy all the way through DTD to my Hotel. Way too much work for me. If a particular pool was important to me I would just stay at that Hotel.

Now, I do understand wanting your family that is not staying at a Hotel to come swim with you. They only way I think it would be correct though is to talk with the front desk. Like others have said, if you are under capacity just add them to your reservation. If you are over, maybe they would still be okay with letting them swim. I would not want to just chance it as I think things like that bring "bad karma" and I just don't need that in my life.
