We purchased NE tickets for our Granddaughter when she was under the age of 9. One is new and never been used and the other has some days left on it. WE are going back in Nov and she will be 11. When I purchased them I thought I understood that they would have to be upgraded to an adult ticket when we got ready to use them at no additional charge. Has anyone done this lately and is this true.

That's true for tickets that have been used. The other ticket is going to be an interesting experiment. For an unused ticket, they would normally make you pay to upgrade to an adult ticket. There's no telling what they'll be able to do now that they no longer sell the no-expiration tickets.

Nope. That's never been the case for child tickets that have never been used.
It's only true for partially-used non-expiring tickets with "days left" after a (former) child has aged out.

My experience is that you have to go to Guest Services to have it changed to an adult ticket. We could not change it at the resort.

I wouldn't worry if you are in a hurry to get in the parks. The CMs are not going to question whether a child that will be 11 should be entering on a child's ticket, especially if the finger scan matches.

Thanks for your responses. If I do have to upgrade the unused one I wonder how much it would cost. I am assuming it would be the difference between what I paid for it and what it would be now then add to that I originally paid extra for non expiring which they don't have now.

And here is the answer straight from Disney:

Used tickets are non-transferable and must be used by the same person for all days the ticket is valid. Guests with remaining days on tickets that they used when they were children may be upgraded to the Adult (Ages 10+) equivalent ticket type at any Theme Park ticket window or Downtown Disney Guest Relations. There is no charge for upgrading a used Child (Ages 3-9) ticket to an Adult (Ages 10+) ticket.

In regards to unused Child (Ages 3-9) tickets, the value of an unused Child (Ages 3-9) ticket may be applied towards the purchase of an Adult (Ages 10+) ticket. This can also be done at any Theme Park ticket window or Downtown Disney Guest Relations. The fee for covering the price difference between the two tickets types will be calculated and paid at the time of the transaction.

Its the pits loosing a NE ticket and wish I would have realized this before, we would have used at least one day on the new ticket but its better than loosing the ticket.

If you bought the ticket from UT or some other reseller its the price they paid for the ticket not you so it could be much higher than expected.

Last December (2014), we upgraded 7 non-expiring, never used children's tickets to adult tickets. The cost was $20 because at the time that was the difference in cost between the adult and children's tickets.

Has anyone gotten a refund for non-expiring tickets? After booking our trip and getting on MDE we discovered that through an error our travel agent made in 2013, our daughter has an extra 6 day ticket that we double purchased. The CL CM I spoke with said that we have to take care of this at guest services.

"Officially" there are no refunds issued for tickets.
But, if a Guest Relations CM offers some "pixie dust," you MIGHT get a refund. It might be in the form of a gift certificate.

The other thing to do is save the ticket for a future trip for upgrading or use as-is.

Or, you CAN legally giift or sell the ticket to someone you know.

I agree with the previous poster, if it hasn't been used or attached to her account then you can always sell it.

If my grand-daughter was 11, I would have her use the unused child's ticket to get into a park, and then upgrade it to an adult non-expiration ticket on my next trip. My boys used their child's non-expire tickets after they were 9 and no-one ever questioned them :) There is no way that I would trade that non-expire ticket in on a ticket that does expire just because Disney doesn't sell that ticket anymore.

I finally got around to upgrading some used child's non-expire tickets to adult tickets a couple of weeks ago. My boys are now 15 and 19, so the tickets were pretty old. The CM did it free of charge, and it was no problem whatsoever making the upgrade.

Disney has at least two chances to nail the OP's DD11 or the PP's DGD11.
1. At the moment she tries to commence usage of the age 3-9 ticket,
2. At a later date when she is trying to upgrade it to an age 10+ ticket after having been turned away at a turnstile. At this juncture the entire ticket usage history is supposed to make sense with the guest's age.

The unused age 3-9 ticket may be freely given to another person aged 3-9, for example a niece.

The free age upgrade is still applicable to non-expiring tickets.

Age upgrade is for administrative, control, and enforcement purposes. The ticket will continue to work even if not so-upgraded.

As always, there's a difference between policy and what you might be able to get away with.

If the ticket was first used when the child qualified as a child, the upgrade will be free. If the ticket is unused, they'll charge you the difference between the child ticket and an adult ticket. Anything beyone that is just you trying to scam the system.

Note that, since no-expiration tickets have been discontinued, nobody here has any experience with what or how they'll charge for the upgrade.

Reducing to basics:

Upgrading a partially-used non-expiring "child ticket" to adult ticket for a (now) over 10 years guest is free.

Upgrading a never-used "child ticket" to adult ticket for a (now) over 10 years guest is not free.

Upgrading a partially-used non-expiring "child ticket" to adult ticket for a (now) over 10 years guest is very common and we know the cost. (It is free.)

Upgrading a never-used non-expiring "child ticket" to new adult ticket for a (now) over 10 years guest is an unknown cost. (We have no current price with which to compute.)

Officially, an over 10 years guest cannot use a never-used "child ticket" to enter a park.
(Is it possible to do? Yes. But, it is not "legal" or proper.)

The first paragraph is what the op wants to do. The second paragraph has no bearing. Your tickets were partially used. The o'ps daughter's ticket is not. No one has reported doing what she needs to do since the no expire tickets went away. As robo said, it's the unknown.

Reread what the original OP wanted to do. Has anyone upgraded a child's ticket to an adult's ticket lately? She has one used and one unused. I replied to her question about the used one. We just did this a couple of weeks ago and it seems like information the OP might be interested in knowing.

I also replied to what I would do with the unused one. It is only an option. The OP can decide how much keeping that non-expiring ticket means to her family, or if she is OK with the possibility of not being able to upgrade it to an adult non-expiring ticket since Disney doesn't sell them anymore.

Ah, I had forgotten about the used one, since that had been answered from the first replies. It was the unused one that I felt we were all still discussing, since the used one was all good, including by Disney's response.

Thanks for all the responses. We will use the used ticket and get it upgraded free as I understand I can do. My concern is that we have 9 days left and are going to use only 5 and I am thinking once it's up graded it will be converted to regular ticket and I will loose what's not used after 14 days. But it is what it is. I am not going to anything with the other one at this time. Just for the record and not that anyone really cares one way or the other but we aren't and won't try to beat system. Just trying to figure this out and I really appreciate all the responses.
