Non DVC units at WDW

I am fairly new to DVC!! Is there a spot on the member site that shows how many points the Poly or GF would be on points? If there isn't where could I find one?

From the main page click on 'View Vacation Point Charts' under Plan My Vacation on the right side of the page. Select Walt Disney World® Resort in Florida for either 2009 or 2010 to see the point charts.

How big is a garden standard view at the Contemporary?

We just added on 125 at BLT today! And we want to travel Oct 11-15th. If I cant get a 2br at any place! I might just go for a regular room at Contemporary! (or is that stupid!?)

You can't book rooms at the original portion of the Contemporary on points anymore.

That is correct. Once DVC has added villas to an existing hotel, you can no longer use your DVC points to book a regular hotel room. That is why you do not see the Wilderness Lodge, Beach Club, Boardwalk or Animal Kingdom hotels available for booking with your DVC points, and now Contemporary.

Don't forget about the $95 fee for non-DVC reservations. And if you book a non-DVC reservation and find DVC does have availability, you won't be able to use those points for DVC. They become reservation points and can only be used for non-DVC trips.

If you just added on, ask your guide to see what he/she can do to get you those days.

I'm wondering why you'd go for a non-DVC unit if a 2BR is unavailable instead of trying for a 1BR or a Studio at a DVC property. Either would be a better value, points-wise, than a non-DVC unit and you wouldn't have the $95 fee.

Personally, we wouldn't use our points at the non-DVC resorts unless we had absolutely no other option. The points cost is just too high, compared to a comparable DVC room (studio), let alone the bigger units. But that's us. Each of us has to decide for ourselves how to use our membership.
