Now here's a question - neither myself or my partner drive so how can we get to Universal? We thought the I-Trolley as we're staying at the Peabody on I-Drive but it doesn't appear to go up that far?

:confused3

Thanks in Advance

I don't think the trolley goes that far. You would be better off just taking a cab from your hotel.

How do you two get back and forth to work? DO you take public transportation, or get rides from ppl? I am always curious how someone gets by in life without driving themselves.

Taxi is certainly the easiest. If the cost is a concern, you could take the Trolley to the Doubletree Hotel at Kirkham and Major blvds and then walk to the park. Their are also several Lynx routes that stop at the Universal parking garage, but that would require change buses to get there from the Peabody.

I'm not the OP, but seems s/he is in Glasgow. Europe is quite different than America is, in terms of getting around without a car. Much easier.

I'm not the OP either, but I went through four years of college (in the US) including a semester abroad, without a car. And I worked when I was in the US during that time. I mostly used public transportation (train/subway/bus), with an occasional ride from a friend. If you are in a big city, it can be very expensive to pay for a parking place for your car near your home (if one is even available), and difficult and costly to find parking at a workplace or other places you might go. In cities with good public transportation systems, it is actually pretty easy to get by without a car.

To the OP: You can use a taxi or a car service to get to the parks, or you might also look into the Mears shuttle service. I didn't investigate the trolley, but if it does stop at the Doubletree, it is only a 10-15 minute walk to the parks from there.

It is often easier in the very large cities to get around without a car.

I agree - even now when I go into the city, I rarely take my car. The time and money I save by not having to look for a place to park more than makes up for the other transportation options.

Thanks everyone :thumbsup2

I stay 10 miles outside of Glasgow, Scotland but even though I moan about it most days it is still pretty good! Sooooo much more cost effective than trying to run a car and pay fuel to drive in and out of the city!

In any event, I'll take a look at the Doubletree - that's a good idea - and look into a taxi from the hotel (that might be a good idea for early mornings when I'll still be half asleep!!) :surfweb:

The Doubletree is a nice hotel that is in walking distance to Universal and you can also check out the Hyatt place universal which is across the street from the Doubletree and I am one of those that never have a car while in Orlando cause its just too expesive to pay to park almost everywhere plus whenever we stay close to Universal we pretty know where most everything is and whats in walking distance

Snowy.

With the time difference you will actually be wide awake in the mornings. So I would try out the I Trolley option and a "stroll" in the morning when it is also "cooler", Cooler, ha ! who am I kidding.

Anyway in the afternoon you will probably be more the worse for wear and getting a taxi would be a good idea to go when you wanted and quickly get back to your hotel to crash.

I've used Mears Transportation taxi fare estimator to work out the journey from Universal Studios to the Convention Centre which is right next door to the Peabody. It is $13 plus a tip which on occasion my seem a very good buy.

What I do, is take the IRide trolley and walk from Wet n Wild, or take the Lynx bus and get a free transfer, change at Wet n Wild and change bus to Universal. This is quite a good way if you get the timing right. I would get a taxi back again though.

Thanks mcaraven, I'll need to rack up some more posts so I can post a full URL.

Like other people have said, I live in the city, and it's very easy to get around on public transportation and on foot. When I need a car for a weekend trip or something like that, it's easy and relatively inexpensive to rent one.

Also, the money I save NOT owning a car makes it possible for me to go to Disneyland every year and Universal every two years! I call that a fair trade!
