I know - shudder the thought that I'm even saying such a thing on the DIS, but...

My response on another thread got me thinking about this - and I know that some of you put up more than one tree in your homes.. So - does anyone do a "themed" Christmas tree that is not Disney? Would you mind sharing what it is? (Photos would be nice as well..:goodvibes)

I've been in Christmas shops where I have seen all sorts of themed Christmas trees and some of them have been simply gorgeous!!

By "themed", I mean all of one kind of decoration on the tree - or one "theme" (like old-fashioned wooden toys or something like that)..

Aside from the ones I mentioned on the other thread, I've seen:

Pink trees - with a darker pink round glass balls, all the same..

Purple trees - with one particular lace ornament, all the same..

Green trees - with small teddy bears..

A white tree - with all candy canes..

Green trees - with the above mentioned old fashioned wooden toys..

Green tree - all kitchen utensil type ornaments on it (smaller - to be set up in a kitchen)..

Green tree - all gingerbread girls and boys..
---------------------------------------------------

That's about all I can remember off the top of my head, but with the lights on and all, they were very, very pretty..:goodvibes

Anyone here do that with their main tree - or maybe other trees you put up in your home?
:santa:

I don't have my stuff together for it yet, probably next year, but I've been collecting ornaments for a Michigan tree for a while. All locally connected ornaments, either made locally (I have a beautiful set of snowflakes from Pewabic Pottery, a set of small Gwen Frostic cross stich pieces that will be framed and hung as ornaments, and a bunch of craft show finds) or themed to local teams/attractions. It'll just be a small tree, about 4', to sit on the sideboard in front of my dining room window, but it gives me a place to play with a themed tree while the kids are still small and enjoy decorating the big tree all willy-nilly.

Around here, the children's hospital holds a benefit where people/organizations decorate themed trees. The tickets to the show and the proceeds from selling the trees themselves go to the hospital, and it is a really fun holiday event. This year there was one tree deocrated in Pez dispensers! Some of the more elegant trees are beautiful, but I'm a sucker for the cutesy novelty themes.

Your hopes of a themed tree of your own sounds really nice! "A Michigan" tree - what a great idea!! :goodvibes

Wow! A tree decorated with Pez dispensers? Now that's really creative.. Too bad you don't have a photo.. Any chance that hospital has a web site - where there might be a photo of the tree? (You could PM me the name of the hospital if you don't want to be too specific about your location..) I would love to see that!! :santa:

My aunt's main tree for years was a white tree with blue and silver decorations--all birds or bird related.

When she moved she needed to change to get a tree to fit the much taller living room. Now it is a green tree with nutcrackers and also some ornaments made from nutshells (walnuts I think).

My other aunt on that side of the family had a different themed tree every year when I was a child. I clearly recall my cousin's excitement the one year she gave in to his begging and had a traditional tree with a hodgepodge of ornaments (this is the only year his homemade stuff was ever allowed on the tree, which I think is sad). A few of hers that I recall:

White tree with birds and bird houses

White tree with a nautical theme (shells, boats, etc)

Green tree with every ornament being an icicle or snowflake shape

Green tree with "food" theme (orange slice ornaments, cranberry garland, cinnamon stick ornaments, etc)--this was my favourite of the themed ones and it smelled so good (and actually, my cousin DID make a lot of this stuff, earlier I meant more the ones you make in school and the like not being included on the trees).

I don't mind linking it, it is a "big city" thing and anyone who looks at my avatar or reads my posts for any length of time can figure out I'm a Detroiter. :)

The benefit is for Children's Hospital of Michigan and the web site is www.fot.org. They have a photo gallery too, of most if not all of this year's trees.

I want to do a themed tree, I just dont have the space for it right now...maybe someday..

I was seeing that black christmas tree, and though a black tree with lots of silver and white would look AWESOME!

I also have always wanted a Disney/Theme Park tree...I am slowly collecting ornaments for that one..

I also want to do a small tree for my pets, all cat and dog ornaments..

All pipe dreams until I get more space

My tree is always themed, one color, one highlight. I currently do angels and the color eggplant. I've done wooden toys, snowmen, porcelain bells, nutcrackers, etc.

I usually put up two trees. Our main tree is your general tree-- lots of handmade ornaments (although not all, Grandma bought 5 huge Disney ornaments sets many years ago -- one for each grandchil, of which we have two -- and over the course of years gave one ornament to each child each year, so with the ones I've bought, we have probably 25 Disney ornaments). The other tree is a small thin tree, about 6 ft tall. I do this in a "rustic" theme -- bark and wood, rusted metal, rough-carved, red and white check fabric ribbons, etc. My family doesn't get to touch that one, it's mine!

I just looked through the photo gallery of the Detroit Hospital Foundation event you posted.

I loved the Sesame St Tree & the Disney with the castle was really cute too.

I work a lot with Ronald McDonald House, and you may have given me an idea for a local fundraiser. :thumbsup2

Thanks so much for sharing! I went through tree by tree and looking at the numbers that appeared on the left hand side of the screen I really liked:
#4
#16
#32
#61
#64 - loved this - the Seasame Street Garbage Can! How creative is that? Loved the Pez dispensers too!

That is quite a set-up.. The back drop is gorgeous - and the white doors set up with the stockings and wreaths hanging on them are so pretty!! :santa:

These all sound pretty, but the one I bolded? I think I really would have liked that one - especially if it were along the lines of the ocean - had some lighthouses; lobster crates, etc..:thumbsup2

I love rustic! Ummmm...any photos?? ;)

We have two Christmas trees in our apartment: my Disney themed tree and my partner's Star Wars themed tree. He has been collecting the Hallmark Star Wars ornaments since childhood and has a large collection. I will post pictures of our trees later.

In the past of I done "snow" theme...all snowflakes, white lights, etc.

We don't do a real theme anymore...we just but whatever we feel like. Yes we do have a lot of Disney themed decorations but we also have our classic ornaments, things the kids have made, then we also have bright colored ornaments (lime green, aqua blue, purple).

This year I am told we are putting them Disney and bright ornaments, with Tinkerbell tree topper and our bright green star on the mantal with our JcP Mickey snowglobes.

always thought the nautical tree would look great in a cottage in New England (where the lobster crates and lighthouses would make lots of sense:goodvibes) but it looked sort of out of place in a typical North Dallas home.

My mom live near the beach in Mexico. She has beach stuff (shells, sand dollars, as well as a tiny palapa and drink umbrellas, etc) as well as Mexican things (she even puts a couple Day of the Dead sugar skulls on). I think it is cute.

Because I have so many ornaments I decided a few years back that I could do this so I bought a couple "little" trees and have 2 themed ones. The first one I have is my "winter" tree. It has mittens, sleds, snowmen and I keep it up all winter long. The tree is only about 2 feet high.

The other tree I have is my "angel" tree. I have an abundance of angel ornaments so this made sense. That tree is about 3 feet high.

The big tree only has homemade ornaments. Not that I made, but that I bought at craft shows. We do have a few Disney ornaments that I am keeping for DD someday. They look out of place on the tree and since she is not around for decorating (in college) I don't put them on anymore.

Well In 2008, I bought a fake tree. It was cheap and looked cheap and I was not happy with it, but my husband told me to "deal with it...you bought it...yadda, yadda, yadda...."

Last year, due to time we didn't put it up.

Then I pulled it out and set it up the other night, and as I am tryign to flock the branches and make it look decent, my husband looks at it and complains about how awful it looked. So we will be getting a real one in the next few days.......

Anyhow, i fell bad about throwing away Fakey McFakey, so I'm moving it to the guest room (one of the front windows of our house) and decorating it in the theme of our college alma matter (Georgia Southern University) in blue, white, and gold.

The guest room is already in that theme.

I don't have pictures yet but the boys have a toy themed tree in their room. They just hang different McDonald's toys and what not from the tree.

DD has a Princess/Tinkerbell tree in her room.

My craft room has a Swedish tree. It's all ornaments from Ikea. Which are natural, red, and white. This is actually the tree we take to Disney with us.

The big living room tree has mostly disney ornaments.

I'm doing a new one for the kitchen this year, I'm trying to find miniature kitchen utensils. I'm thinking about a baking theme.

the bathroom has a little foot tall tree but I'd like to find some bath type items for that one.

and our elves have a tree. They have all mini ornaments but they have a knack for getting tied up in the lights.

I have 3 trees done, just need pics. But I hope to have the rest up by the end of the week. Right now we are arguing about real or fake. 3 of us want real and 3 want a fake tree. LOL

Oh idea!!! The black tree would be soooo cool as a Jack Skelington tree!! I might do one of those for DS14.

My tree is all white/blue/silver (the lights are blue, but look white in the pictures):

Mine is gingerbread/candy themed. I also have lots of gingerbread men/women around the room, a garland with candy cane lights, and our stockings have gingerbread men. I have also gotten a few items for the kitchen (a sleigh that I will fill with red and green apples and a cookie jar/mug/spoon rest set.)

I'm jealous of the fake trees, my real tree smells great but it is hard to find one that is "perfect". This one is a bit lopsided at the bottom and has this funny patch with shorter branches that I had to hide in the corner :rotfl: Every year I swear that I'm going back to artificial (especially when I am trying to string lights!)

I've always wanted to get a white tree and decorate it with my Scottish terrier ornaments and red tartan ribbon. I have nearly enough ornaments collected through the years now. My black dog ornaments just don't show up on a green Christmas tree. Should hunt for a tree during the after Christmas sales.

We won't have a decorated tree this year. New puppy in the house. :) We did get a white wire "tree" with vivid LED lights. It looks like a giant gumdrop tree. It will be festive this year and next year can go outside to the yard. No ornaments for the pup to break or eat.

As a child, I had a very small tree in my bedroom that had glow-in-the-dark snowflake and icicle ornaments and a strand of multi-colored fairy lights. The ornaments were from my mother's childhood and my grandmother gave them to me when I had the chicken-pox. I still use them and they still glow-in-the-dark.
