Non-Disney hotel suggestions

Trying to crunch some numbers to see if a quick trip at the end of October would be doable. Mainly it's my son's birthday in October and would love to go to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween party. It would be me, DH, and 12 and 6 year old DS. Was thinking maybe staying at a downtown Disney hotel to save some money. Although I totally love staying on Disney property, don't think that would be in the budget this trip. Trying to crunch some numbers before I talk with DH. Any suggestions?

I'd suggest you ask on the Orlando Hotels and Attractions Board. People there have a good idea of what's available, what's nice, and what the prices are likely to be -- and often tips on getting the deals. Orlando is overbuilt, so usually you can find a good price on something nice. Good luck!

If you have a car you could also stay in Kissimmee. Lots of hotel chains at all price points for you to choose from.

Bonnet Creek is a beautiful resort & closest "off site" resort to WDW. It's surrounded on 3 sides by Disney property & a stone's throw from CBR.
Some rooms have a view of Epcot fireworks.
It has multiple pools, lazy river, lots of onsite activities, etc.

Look on the Orlando board for more info. There are many threads with instructions on how to rent Wyndham points from owners. IIRC, it works out to around $100-120/nt for a 2 BR condo.

The pictures look gorgeous. Nicer than any deluxe at WDW. Well, except GF.
I was curious about it so dh & I took a self-guided walking tour of the resort. We didn't go inside any condos but the public areas are very nice. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there.

Thats low season and I bet you could get a steal on VRBO, Homeaway, etc for a townhome or home in Kissimmee for your dates. Usually its less than a hotel.
