Howdy all!!!!

I am turning 40 this year.

I will be having a 80's themed party in the fall. Other than Lots of Neon, I have only come up with one decoration. AquaNet cans with a hole drilled in the top of the cap with balloons threaded thru it. That's the only centerpiece I can think of.

Now I love the idea but I'm now looking at 10 plus tables. That seems like quite a waste doing one for each table seeing as I don't use the stuff anymore.

So, can anyone think of something that you say 80's to you that I could make into a centerpiece?

Thanx in advance,
Melissa

You could use different 80's themed items at each table to hold your balloons down. Like you can get a joy stick at Walmart that comes with pac man and other 80's arcade games, you could use a Rubiks cube for another, etc. Also, another great idea and you could have people take items from their table home as favors would be to have 80's themed candy centerpeices at each table. Candy buffets are always a big hit.

A friend of mine went to an 80's party last year and I put this list together for her of 80's things I could think of:

Rubiks Cube, smurf, cabbage patch doll, plastic braceletes like madonna wore, punk wig, black sunglasses that Tom Cruise wore in Risky Business (that movie came out in 1983), there is a board game called the 80's Board Game $23.25 from FantasyToyland or get it on Amazon (there are actually several 80's games on Amazon)

There is also a book called "Growing up in the 80's"

You can buy a joy stick at walmart that comes with pac man and a few other 80's games...otherwise here is a list of 80's arcade games: astroid, frogger, Qbert, space invaders, donkey kong, galaga, super mario, centipede, tetris...etc. See if you can't buy some of these at Wal-mart as hand held games. Remember handheld games were popular at that time like football and baseball.

top selling movies from the 80's:
The Empire Strikes Back ($290.2m*)
Superman II ($108.2m)
9 to 5 ($103.3m)
Stir Crazy ($101.3m)
Airplane! ($83.4m)
Coal Miner's Daughter ($79.9m)
Private Benjamin ($69.8m) -
Smokey and the Bandit II ($66.1m)
Ordinary People ($54.8m)
The Blues Brothers ($54.2m)
other movies: pretty in pink, say anything, teen wolf, back to the future

Candy list for a typical 80's assortment... Abba Zaba, Appleheads, Atomic Fire Balls, Baby Ruth, Bazooka Bubble Gum, Big Hunk, Bit-O-Honey, Blow Pop, Boston Baked Beans, Bottle Caps, Bubblicious, Butterfingers, Candy Buttons, Candy Cigarettes, Candy Necklace, Candy Watch, Caramel Squares, Charleston Chews, Charms, Cherryheads, Chick-o-Sticks, Chuckles, Chunky, Chupa Chups, Cinnamon Bear, Cow Tales, French Chew, Gobstoppers, Hot Dog Gum, Hot Tamales, Jaw Breakers, Jolly Ranchers, Laffy Taffy, Life Savors, Lemonheads, Fun Dip, Lollies, Mike & Ike, Necco Wafers, Nerds, Nestle Crunch, Now & Laters, Pixy Stix, Pop Rocks, Rainblo gum, Razzles, Red Hots, Ring Pops, Root Beer Barrels, Runts, Sixlets, Skittles, Smarties, Sour Patch Kids, Spree, Starburst, Sugar Daddy, Swedish Fish, Sweet & Sour Pops, Sweetarts, Tangy Taffy, Tootsie Roll, Warheads, Wax Lips, Whistle Pops, Zotz Sours.

Hope this helps! Dolly
