I thought I saw here on the boards someone mention that there was non-dairy ice cream somewhere on WDW property? Anyone had any lately (either soy or rice).

I'd love to know too. My son is allergic to dairy, and his substitute for ice cream is usually sorbet.

I am 99.999% sure Dole Whips are non-dairy. :cool1: They can be found at Aloha Isle just inside the entrance to Adventureland at MK.

Main Street Ice Cream Palor and Plaza Ice Cream-MK
Dino Bite Snacks- AK
Hollywood Scoops- MGM
Liberty Inn (American Pavilion)- Epcot

Just ask CMs because they keep it in the back so to avoid cross contamination. All sit down restaurants have it or can get it; when making your ADRs inform CM of allergy and they will give you phone number to call the chef at the restaurant a couple of days before your reservation so you can discuss food choices.

All the carts throughout the parks have something non dairy, not ice cream though. Be careful of the strawberry bars they may contain dairy ingredients.

I do not think Dole Whips are non dairy becasue they were not on the list. But I am not sure. Anyone????

Several of the buffet and family style restaurants brought out a bowl of Tofutti ice cream for DD (she has an egg allergy). I'm not sure if all of the TS restaurants carry it, but it seemed like many did.

At Boma I was able to get Soy Delicious ice cream. They even had a variety of flavors, it was great! I also remember a lot of places having vanilla flavored rice dream. Not as great... ;)

I know that DoleWhip is dairy free as DD5 is lactose intolerant and can have it. Glad to know about the other places-we were just going to bring her Lactaid chewables for the occasional treat, but if there are alternatives, thats even better.

Dd had both Rice Dream and Tofutti at every TS - the restaurants either had one or both to choose from. I don't think the Dole Whips are dairy free - there was a reason dd couldn't have one but it escapes me now. The Itzakadoozies at the snack carts are dairy free and I think they have a strawberry bar you can get also.

Thanks for the info - they certainly do not advertise they have non-dairy choices

cheers

Lactose intolerance and milk/casein/whey allergies are two VERY different things. I've seen many products advertised as "dairy free" that contain casein, which is a milk protein (soy cheeses are a great example). Dole Whips contain sodium caseinate which is a milk derivative (I just found my lists I got from Disney Food & Beverage) and that's why my dd can't have them.

Just be careful - know ALL the ingredients before taking any chances. Ingredient lists should be available at all carts and stands, according to Disney's printed materials I received from Food & Beverage.

I have a DS with severe anaphylactic allergies to all milk, egg, tree nut and peanut products. We have eaten safely through the world, but ....

DOLE WHIP is NOT Dairy free. Repeat. IS NOT. It has sodium caseinate in it. If you are dealing with a milk allergy, not lactose intolerance, it could be deadly.

My DS hates the soy and rice ice creams, but they now have them at many of the restaurants. He loves sorbet, which is harder to find that it used to be. We've found sorbet especially at Epcot restaurants: Coral Reef, France, and Le Cellier all carried sorbet last trip.

Be aware that the international Epcot restaurants are not owned by Disney, and are not reliable if you are dealing with anaphylactic allergies. He received a cookie containing nuts smack dab in his sorbet in Canada, had cheese baked on his plain potato in France, and received a product which had been cross-contaminated with nut products in Morrocco. We're very careful, so all of these simply went back to the kitchen.

In every other place on Disney property, you'll love how they work with you.

Also be aware on my list from WDW Food & Beverage, the Strawberry Fruit Bar has the disclaimer "may contain dairy". Now the the Orange Juice Bar does not have this warning, but the bars are made by the same company, so i'm wondering why one has the warning and the other doesn't? Perhaps they have dedicated machines for the orange bars and not the strawberry? hmmmm.... I was going to contact them to make sure, but just thought I'd throw in another heads up. :thumbsup2

You'll have to be careful about ordering at the snack carts and counter service BUT I believe they all have a paper with the ingredient lists of all the foods. ALSO, don't forget when making dining reservations that you ask for what you want/don't want or allergies/special diets and the foods you don't like (such as soy/Tofutti) etc.... The chef may even call you with their ideas or ask you what you want (this has happened with us)

Anyone know of specific ice creams shops that have sorbet at the parks or resorts? Ben and Jerry's usually has one sorbet, but I don't think there's one of those at the parks.

Casein is in many things that I do not think it should be - thanks for the reminder to all

Usually at the carts I get the frozen bananas, but I'd just really love to walk down Main Street licking on a melting Icre cream cone! I'm lactose intolerant, I can do casien (I eat LOADS of Veggie Slices Soy cheese w/o a bother) and I LOVE Tofutti ice cream! So can I walk up to the Main Street Ice Cream Parlor or Hollywood Scoops and walk away with a non-dairy cone to lick on? I know I can get juice bars, but there is nothing like being in the vacation mode with a smooth, refreshing ice cream cone (even if it isn't 'real').

Thanks for all the info thus far! I never knew I could enjoy the ice cream at the TSs!!

Crazy4,

YES!! You can get Tofutti at the Main Street Cone Shop. You have to ask for it because they don't keep it with the rest of the ice cream. They should have Rice Dream there too. :)

Thanks! I know it sounds corny, but its the little things that make me happy :goodvibes !!!! We went to Hershey Park a few years ago and I felt so.....human/normal (lol) because they actually have a Tofutti Ice Cream stand and I was able to enjoy a treat like everyone else! mmm.....I can taste the enjoyment now :teeth: :teeth:

I wish we had known about the Tofutti stand when we went to Hershey - I would have tracked it down!!
