I owned a sweet shoppe for several years, and used to sell Dole Whip. They clearly stated (& sent advertising!) that it was dairy free.
I went to the official Dole website and did not find anything, however, I checked out some websites for those who wholesale the product and here is the list of ingredients:
Dole Orange Soft Serve Frozen Dessert
INGREDIENTS: Water, High Fructose Corn Sugar, Sugar, Corn Syrup, Maltodextrin, Orange Juice Concentrate, Partially Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Stabilizers (Cellulose, Locust Bean, Guar, Xanthan, Karaya Gum, Pectin), Sodium Caseinate (A Milk Derivative), Natural & Artificial Flavor, Citric Acid, Mono & Diglycerides, Sodium Citrate, Salt, Dipotassium Phosphate, Articial Color (including Yellow #6).
So, as a TRUE non-dairy, it is not because of the caseinate....I think if someone has a true dairy allergy it could be a no-no. And those who have an intolerance I guess it is the level of intolerance. I don't think I would have a problem since I do eat things with caseinate and it is pretty low on the ingredient list (there is more soybean oil and stabilizers than casein!). How is the texture of this treat? Tofutti is awesome because it has an ice creamy texture...but, hey, I'm not going to pass up a dole whip at WDW....I'll just do both (since we all know calories don't count at WDW
