Non-dairy Ice Cream at the World?

I wish we had known about the Tofutti stand when we went to Hershey - I would have tracked it down!!

If you go again (and it is still there!), the 'real' ice cream will be to the left of the carousel (as you are walking exiting the park), keep going towards the exit and the Tofutti stand (it's a kosher food stand!) will be to your right before you get to the last 2 small shops near the turnstiles. AND, they had CHOCOLATE COOKIE CRUNCH!!!

You can call ahead if you want. When you make your ADRs make sure you tell them about the allergy and it will be noted on your reservation. You then have the option of taking the restaurant phone number and calling a few days before your reservation to speak with the chef. You can always just speak to the chef once you arrive - they are really great about accomodating dietary needs. We found that every place we went to had at least one choice, but most had both (Tofutti and Rice Dream). And we were never charged extra on the dining plan.

As far as milk, I'm not sure as my dd refuses to drink either. I can't imagine that they wouldn't have it.

About three years ago a local ice cream place started advertising a dairy free product and we were so excited until we read the ingredient list. It too contained sodium caseinate and we informed the owner that this might make someone with a casein allergy VERY sick, possibly life threatening. He was not happy, but he at least took the sign down.

It seems manufacturers need some education about what consititutes a true dairy free product.

I went to the official Dole website and did not find anything, however, I checked out some websites for those who wholesale the product and here is the list of ingredients:

Dole Orange Soft Serve Frozen Dessert

INGREDIENTS: Water, High Fructose Corn Sugar, Sugar, Corn Syrup, Maltodextrin, Orange Juice Concentrate, Partially Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Stabilizers (Cellulose, Locust Bean, Guar, Xanthan, Karaya Gum, Pectin), Sodium Caseinate (A Milk Derivative), Natural & Artificial Flavor, Citric Acid, Mono & Diglycerides, Sodium Citrate, Salt, Dipotassium Phosphate, Articial Color (including Yellow #6).


So, as a TRUE non-dairy, it is not because of the caseinate....I think if someone has a true dairy allergy it could be a no-no. And those who have an intolerance I guess it is the level of intolerance. I don't think I would have a problem since I do eat things with caseinate and it is pretty low on the ingredient list (there is more soybean oil and stabilizers than casein!). How is the texture of this treat? Tofutti is awesome because it has an ice creamy texture...but, hey, I'm not going to pass up a dole whip at WDW....I'll just do both (since we all know calories don't count at WDW !!
