non-college parade/character audition near AK?

Hello everyone...

I've read thru most pages of the CP Auditions thread and posted a question there last year, but I have a few questions about the "regular" auditions that appear to be scheduled the first and third Thursday of the month for Parade Performers and Character Look-alikes for ages 16 and up. (See listing for it as it appears on disneyauditions.com for Jan. 20, Feb. 3 & Feb. 20. It's held at the AK Rehearsal Facility onsite).

Are these "open" auditions held throughout the year? Seems like I've seen them listed just about every month.

Is it the same format as the CP character performer auditions, i.e. you're asked to act out meeting a character in the park and they are supposed to guess who from your actions, then you're taught short bit of choreography?

Do they weed out some people after these two steps? If so, what is next? (I'm guessing it largely depends on how many show up.)

What is the timing, i.e. if you're cut/not cut how long does it usually last ?

How soon afterwards do you hear anything?

My DD-16's dream is to perform at WDW. She's been dancing since 3, doing school/community musical theatre since 10. I know it's a long shot and we're doing it mainly for the experience, but we are hoping for her to go to an audition when we're there this summer if the scheduling works out....

We'll also be visiting UCF and Rollins when in Orlando. She wants to do the CP once in college, then go to part-time when in school. I know you have to wait 6 months in between auditions, but she's only a sophomore, so she would have plenty of time before a CP audition!

Any info would be appreciated.

The regular audition process is different from the CP audition because more people show up to the regular auditions and they need to make more cuts.

First round is two eight counts of accross the floor - then there's a cut.

Your DD could be identified as one of three roles: Look-a-like, Mover, Character - she would move forward to the next role based on how she is classified.

Look-a-likes go through a fitting.

Movers learn a dance.

Characters perform "animation" which is like miming.

Characters have another cut, and then some individuals may be asked to perform puppetry skills.

If she is in the first cut, it'll be about an hour. If she stays to the very end, could be up to 4 or 5 hours, depending on how many other people there are.

If she has stilt skills, she could be invited back for a specific Stilt audition; but she has to indicate stilts on her audition form.

We are trying to figure out logistics. We'll be staying at the Dolphin and it's only 4 miles away!!

She'll bring her headshot with resume printed on back, and of course wear dance shoes and clothes. Hair back away from face, but in pony tail so they can see it's long. Light makeup.

Any other tips??

Tip one - don't worry about the headshot, it'll end up in the trash.

Headshots are only needed for equity auditions, not character.

I got sick in May and we never made it. I ended up needing a hysterectomy....

So I am back on the boards looking at the audition schedule seeing if it will work out for my D this year!

I'll let you know how it works out if we make it!!
