"Noisy room" dilemma

We booked a Cat. 11 Gty room for our upcoming Sept 28 Wonder cruise. Just checked online and we are assigned room 2642, which is an upgrade to Cat. 9, but several floors down on Deck 2, in one of the "noisy rooms". Has anyone ever asked for a different room, when once assigned?

Our first cruise we were upgraded to category 8, large corner Room 6500 all the way forward, and we loved it. Very close to adult areas. 2642 is all the way aft, very low and not close to anything in particular. Since we are not going on any excursions, except getting off for Castaway Cay, I can't see any benefit.

Do I call and ask to be changed, or just keep it and see how it turns out? What would you do?

Just think, at least you will have a porthole. I am looking at my passPorter, and I see where that room is over Parrot Cay. Maybe that is why it is concidered noisy? If you had been given a cat 11 room, you would not have had the view!:D I think you should enjoy it. I know I would. Besides, everyone said the lower deck has less motion. I will be down there too, because I booked a cat 9, and will be ok with it, because that is what I paid for. I will be happy just to have the outside light. If they can't give you something better, would you want to switch back to a cat. 11 with someone else? I wonder if they can do that if your cruise is sold out? I know I wouldn't even consider that, but I don't know how detemined you are not to stay in that cabin. Maybe if you contact them today, they may have more cat 9s left that they can switch you into. Doesn't hurt to call, huh? Let me know how it goes. Good luck.

I would much rather be in the noisiest room on the ship than in the quietest place in my office! I'll be glad to switch places with you!

We stayed in room 2152 on our last Wonder cruise and even the earplugs did not help the loud noise through out the day and night. As a result, we were awake to see the sun rise everyday!

We could not change rooms because the ship was full. Change rooms now before it's too late.

It is all a matter of personal preference. You have to weigh the view against the noise. I don't like being on a lower deck, but that's just me. Since you have doubts and the things we regret most in life are the things we did not do, if I were you I would call DCL immediately (if you booked directly with them) and ask if they can switch you with someone else back to a Cat 11, as I am sure someone else in that category would be glad to have the "upgrade."

We stayed in room 2014 two weeks ago and it wasn't noisey. The first night a few kids were chasing each other up and down the hall making alot of noise until 2 a.m. besides that we heard no noise and slept great.

We had no problem. Your cabin is just a few doors down. The only noise we did noticed was when we were docking. But for us that wasn't even a problem. Good luck with your decision. If you decide to keep it let us know what you thought. Thanks!

That room is not over Parrot Cay, as the restaurants are on Deck 3, i.e. above the staterooms.
The only stateroom I would never do again is 2626. It was below the galley, which caused some noise but which would have been tolerable. Unfortunately, it was above some sort of cargo door. I never realized just how early the ship gets into Port Canaveral until I was awakened by the noise!
We were under the Rockin' Bar D once and could here the bass, but by the time we returned to our stateroom each night we were sleepy enough to nod right off with no bother.

So Sorry Inkkognito, I should have said that the room is under Parrot Cay. I was flip flopping the decks in my mind. Also, since I have not been on this ship, I don't know, but can you hear noise from above if you are below a restaurant?

Icharge, I was chucking as I typed my message because so many people make that mistake! It's easy to get the deck layouts confused.
You can definitely hear noise from above, but since the restaurants close early it shouldn't be a bother. However, if you are under the galley, that runs 24 hours a day so there can be noise at any hour from up there.
