So me and DF bought a new flat 3 months ago and for 3 months I havent had a good night sleep our next door neightbour is soooooooooo noisey constant noise even at the moment 12.50 LOUD music playing through my lounge wall I can hear it over my TV on 30 Sunday night same noise till 3.30am

we have complained to the council but unless another neighbour complains they cant realy do much its only classed as a nuisance not a problem te thing is as its a new estate there isnt any one else near him to have this nuisance

I dont know what else to do we have been round a number of times to ask to turn it down and he does for 2 or 3 mins enough time for us to get back in the flat and starts all over again

i just wondered any one else get this problem and did you resolve it i worry if itgoes on we will have to move as i cant live like this

Its worth calling environmental health about this. Thats what we had to do, we had to keep a diary and record the sounds and all sorts. Is it not worth asking another neighbour if it bothers them? I'm sure it would if they have ears! I'm sorry you are having this problem - its bad when you are getting disturbed in your own home. Also, do these people own where they are living? If not, its worth contacting the landlord - we have had to do that to. Everytime they bothered us, we'd ring the landlord until eventually they moved out. Good luck .

Yes totally agree with this, I work alongside Environmental Health who deal with these complaints. They should contact the occupier of the flat and let them know a complaint has been made and they are investigating (usually scares them enough :rotfl:).

Phone the Council again, and if you are not getting anywhere ask to speak to a manager.

Also as you are in a flat your flat will be "leasehold" when you agreed to your lease there are usually condition attached such as "no pets" and often conditions about noise. It would be worth digging that out and complaining to your management company (who clean your corridors etc).

Again, agree with the above post about your neighbour being a tenant or an owner occupier - if they are a tenant it would be much easier to sort out :thumbsup2

it is a council owned flat a 18 year old lad lives there on his own and doesnt work so this music is any time of the day i have been to work with no sleep after one of his all night well can only be described as parties and as you can imagine any 18 year old that has his own place is going to be the most popular with all his mates there are people in and out all day

thank you for your advice we are making a diary of the noise at the moment i say diary i think it will turn in to a book i dont feel safe going round there asking for the noise to be turnt down and can only do this when DF is there

Another option is to call the police if its late at night, especially if he has a party then. Obviously its not an emergency so not 999 but get the local number for your police

If its a Council owned flat, its the easiest one to solve :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

When your neighbour signed up his tenancy he will have signed up to some sort of behaviour order in his lease - like no loud music after.... etc. You need to get in touch with the Council's housing department or whoever manages the Council housing in your area and complain. I would do it in writing and by phone. If you are not getting anywhere complain to your local Councillors too - they can help to move things along for you.:)

Not sure how it is where you live in the UK, but in the US many cities have noise ordinances. If a person has loud music after a certain time you can call the police.

No problem Leanne, yes I would give them as much detail as you have. I would phone up and speak to someone about this, and then ask for their email - email a copy of the letter and send them one in the post.

It might seem a bit OTT but I know what some Council workers are like :rotfl:

When we rented we had some problems (although ours were vermin ), where I work they have a team of people who help out with anti social behaviour problems like yours (there are lot of bad private rented tenants/landlords), and they are really helpful, I hope the ones near you are too!

you were completely dismissed by the council worker you spoke to. This annoys me greatly . tinks and gemmybear are right :thumbsup2. you should be able to make an offical complaint - use the word 'complaint' - it opens doors in Local authority speak! They should also send around someone from Environmental to record the volume and then the council could issue a warning or take then to court with the evidence collected if needs be. You need to be firm but persistant.try to get name of person you speak to, or ask to make an appointment.

yes we were sent a form and we filled out with a letter sayin it would be kept on file if another neighbour were to complain but only for 12 months (i think) also stating that complaining is not a good idea as if we decide to move that it would go against us and could lose money on our flat if we have complained about noise i dont care about all those things though i just need some sleep at 2.30 am i have been very tempted to drive some where and sleep in my car its that bad luckily he is out tonight so we can watch ugly betty in peace :D but also means he will probably come home drunk or who knows what and will be noisey

 You have my sympathy, I hope you get this problem sorted out soon. It was a great day when our noisy (and rude) neighbours moved house several years ago :goodvibes

Sorry to hear the person you spoke to at the council wasn't helpful, my bf works for our local one and deals with this type of thing a lot (and i'd like to think actually sorts it out for people rather than fobbing them off! ;)) He pretty much said what others have: Environmental health is who you want to get in touch with, and also the council if they own the housing (I know not all council housing is actually owned by councils nowadays, all of Liverpool's is owned by separate companies) We were having problems recently with someone's house alarm going off for hours and hours through the night and EH ended up having to break in to the property to deactivate it (the property is for sale and the owner lives in Manchester and was uncontactable)
I'm shocked that you were told not to complain or it would go against you, that's not on at all! Complaints are supposed to be confidential and in no way should they affect any future renting or cause you to lose money
Good luck :flower3:

You have my sympathy. We had a similar situation when we lived in a flat. Our neighbour (upstairs) was a single man who had parties until 4am and had some very scary friends. He would start DIY at 11.30pm and play loud music too. Like you, I was at my wit's end. I was on edge all of the time. Even when it was quiet, I was just waiting for the noise to start.:sad2: We were told that making official complaints could work against us if we wanted to sell. There was space on an official document when we sold, saying that we needed to declare any complaints made against neighbours. I'm not sure what could be done if you lied on the form. :confused3 We didn't complain about our neighbour, we moved out.

I really hope you get this sorted. It's unusual for 18 year old single lads to get flats, isn't it? I wonder why he got it.:confused3

There is nothing worse you have my sympathy. Keep a noise diary noting when and how long for and pass this on to the council, keep going back to the council they will have to take notice if you don't go away. Good luck.

The slightly demonic side of me is saying if ya can't beat em, join em get a drum kit!!!

or use the magicpixiedust:and they will go away

There was a case on TV last year ago where a couple has sold their house and not decalred that they had had some disputes with their neighbours. When the new occupiers moved in and found they were living next to the neighbours from hell they sued the couple for the full valuation of the house. It made headlines as this is now something you have to delcare when selling property and lots of people were lying.

It's just not worth the risk, is it? I was tipped off about this declaration by a friend when we had our hellish neighbours and that was 10 years ago. I still feel guilty that the people who bought the flat were oblivious to the mad neighbour upstairs. He is still living there, though I'm not sure they are.

Our lovely neighbours are moving out in two weeks - fingers crossed we don't get awful new neighbours.;)
