Noise at the CCI

I was just reading Tripadvisor and there was a reviewer who claimed to have a lot of noise at the CCI. Car doors and beeper remotes, footsteps from the room above and she even said heard the "zip of a suitcase" from the room above.

Is she being dramatic? Or, has anyone else had a problem with noise at the CCI?

The "zip of the suitcase" one sounds a bit dramatic. It's been a few years since we stayed at CCI, but we did enjoy our last visit. It is a motel, not the thickest walls. I would advise you to ask for a room toward the back of the property, on the second floor, away from the utility rooms. That's what I asked for last time and was pleased with the quietness of the room. Our very first stay there we had one of the rooms overlooking Harbor. That was pretty noisy and irritating. Our second stay was away from the street but next door to some utility room that the staff seemed to start accessing as early as 5-something or 6-something in the morning. The third trip, once we knew what we didn't want to be near, was much better.

I was thinking first floor just for lugging suitcase. But i will ask for second floor after reading your post. Thanks!

We've stayed in a deluxe room twice at CCI, both on the first floor. Never had a noise issue. Never heard our neighbors or those above us. Last spring I stayed in a hotel in San Jose that was next to a utility closet that had a padlock on it and it bumped against the door in the wind all night. Now that was a noise issue!

But all hotels have noises that you don't have at home. Even if it is just noisy people walking to their rooms. We always travel with a small fan or a small sound machine that we set to "rain". This always helps us sleep without hearing all those little noises that every hotel has. :thumbsup2

We stayed at CCI (Oct) and while we really loved it, (free parking, free breakfast, free WiFi) we did have our deluxe room in the back of the Inn, top floor, and we did not hear any zipper noises or noises from the street or people getting up and out … but I will say it was "CARSLAND" that was what we did hear.

I am so excited for Carsland but I did not realized THAT was the noise as we awoke our first morning there. Oh well, I did inquire at the front desk and the clerk was lovely and she said that they have no idea how much longer the noise from the building of Carsland will continue but she said you may easily request a room towards the front of the Inn any time at all.

CCI is lovely. :goodvibes

I am headed to DL for two days next week and decided to try HoJo's! :thumbsup2

What time did you start hearing the construction noise in the morning?

Also, does anyone have any CCI pics to share?

6AM … not pretty at all. :headache: We went up to DL for all day Sunday and stayed over Sunday night, did DL all day Monday and drove home. We just live in San Diego. (So we were there just the one night).

When I checked out, I just kind of casually mentioned it and the clerk rolled her eyes and said, "while we love DL and all our customers, this really has been annoying for us". Now that was the weekend of October 25th (happened to be our anniversary). Maybe NOW they are not making the intense building noises we heard. The clerk did say you may call anytime and request a room towards the front of the hotel.

If I were you, I would call CCI, tell them you are very interested in staying there BUT will the noise of the building of Carsland (which you know is right behind the CCI) bother my family or has things quieted down with the construction.

Like I said in my post, the Inn is lovely. Very clean. Rooms are awesome and spacious. And allot of amenities. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Thanks, Momrek!

A little OT, but what's your favorite Mexican restaurant in San Diego? I looove the mexican food in SD, it's so different from the Tex-mex we get around here.

I think the noise will go away soon. Two reasons. They are not doing so many of the processes that are super loud. Also the Caddilac range is progressing quickly, one the mud is on it, it will create a large noise shield. While the mountain won't block all noise it will sit between the CCI and the Carsland construction.

My coworkers use to take me to a great taco stand. I'm not sure I ever drove there and don't remember the location exactly. I think is was on India or Kettner, between Laurel and Hawthorne.

When we stayed there we had a very corner room, upstairs so second floor. We did have some road noise from Harbor and we heard the shuttle when it was picking people up but it wasn't the worst noise we've had at a hotel. :)

Yes, PinkBudgie has an awesome thread here about the CCI!!!

We do love Old Town. I think the Old Town Mexican restaurant is our favorite.

I'm packing my GPS, so I'll have to hunt down that taco stand!

I think we'll go with a 2nd floor room. My DS can haul all the bags. ;):thumbsup2

That's good to know. Thanks for the info! :thumbsup2

I feel that the person that wrote that is being a little too dramatic.. I do not trust trip adivsor, I have read many reports on the dis about CCI and they were pretty good reviews. I think you will be fine!

We love the Candy Cane; it is the only place we will stay at DL. I am a heavy sleeper and, frankly, exhausted when we return to the room. That being said, I don't have any noise concerns. :confused3

We have stayed there every March for the past six years, with the exception of last March, when we turned east instead of turning west and ended up at the giantest place on earth instead of the Happiest Place on Earth. ;)

Any room fronting Harbor is noisy (like any other hotel) and Carsland will continue to be a problem for sometime yet... If you a light sleeper you might want to consider a smaller hotel in a different location...
