NOBODY IS MORE SURPRISED THAN US! GKTW alumni return! 10/21 MOVING DAY!!

I am so glad that the coolers got there in good condition. Lisa had told me how she did it, so I followed in her footsteps.

I'm not much one for posting on forums, but I read a lot of threads.

Okay Pam, first for the OFFICIAL :welcome::welcome::welcome: to my thread!! I didn't know if you would sign in or not, but I am so happy you did. :goodvibes I know you read a lot more than you post (she joined the DIS back in 2003...just before Lisa was born), but you are welcome anytime you feel like jumping in! :goodvibes

Lisa is a great woman who pioneered the meat giving process to us and I am glad she was able to help you help us!! It truly is a blessing for which I can't say Thank you enough for your unselfish, giving heart! Look at my children's beautiful faces all lit up with joy and anticipation! THANK YOU!!!
wow, what a thoughtful gift! I'm glad to see Lisa is feeling better, I hope she continues to improve and that Rachel's asthma improves also. Does the dampness from all of the rain contribute to her attacks? I know I have more problems with mine in humid weather.
I haven't been on here much this summer. I actually took 3 trips this summer. A record for me! the Disney trip was great as always. I am so thankful that my sister asked me join them to experience her children's first visit. Watching my 3 year old niece's light up when she saw the princesses for the first time was priceless. My 5 year old nephew discovered that rides were fun after refusing to go on anything at an amusement park last year. I was home for about 2 weeks than took a 1100 mile road trip to visit family in NY State with my brother, sister-in-law and 7 year old niece. We stopped over night on the way there but drove straight through on the way home. The 3rd trip was a family trip, 5 out of my 7 siblings, their families and I went to the closest amusement park for a weekend. I think we had about 24 in our group. We have to go to either Des Moines, IA or Kansas City,MO to go to an amusement park. Next week is my last week of vacation as teachers report back to school Aug.7 and the kiddos Aug.14. I am excited to see the new group of first graders that I will have this year. I've already spent over $100 buying supplies and things that the district doesn't supply as we aren't allowed to send home "required" supply lists only a few "suggested" items.

Lisa is feeling so much better I am incredibly thankful. Rachel will see her pulmonologist on Monday and hopefully he will give her some relief.

WOW, what an incredible summer you have had! :yay::yay: I LOVE that you have had a family filled adventure with lots of different folks and lots of fun...how incredibly special! :goodvibes Any pics from your Disney trip???

Pam! Yay for posting! I'm so happy that I was able to help you out. You really should post more. It's always good to hear from new friends.

I love new friends. I love long-time friends. I love old friends, I love young friends...I just love you all!! Thanks for helping Pam which really was helping me...Love YOU friend!!

I think that's one my favorite things to say right now are "We're having baby!!" :rotfl2: Now to just get DH to agree to tell his family will make it that much easier to share even more!! He's just afraid to though because of all the other problems we've had. So I get it.

The only thing I have to say about the insurance is "that sucks!!" Sorry to hear they didn't give you much warning.

That was such a great gift for Pam to send you guys!! It sure did come at the perfect time!!

Continued prayers for you and everyone that needs them!
You ARE having a baby!!! :cheer2::cheer2: So excited for you still. I can understand DH holding off sharing the news, ya'll have had so much heartache.

I guess the one goods thing about not telling us the insurance was changing was it gave me less time to fret, which will do no good anyway! They told us in May (I think) we were staying with the same company and "there might be a slight increase"...there always IS so that didn't alarm me. They neglected to say the entire policy terms were changing. :headache:

The gift was such a blessing and on a day we needed some happy!

That was a great gift for ya'll. My dad used to order that stuff for us all the time and it is really good. I know that ya'll will enjoy it.

Thoughts and prayers to all that need them.

Oooh, thoughtful Dad!! I am so excited to enjoy the food and we are so thankful for the gift. :goodvibes And now I know someone else who has been reading our journey!. :yay:

:cool1: What a wonderful blessing that Pam bestowed on your family Judy! The food will help you in so many ways. The cost of everything is going up and this act of love and generosity will sure be of help to your budget.

I'm not looking forward to seeing what changes in health care expense that will be coming to the rest of us later this year. to you Judy!

I try to put my ramblings in a separate post (sometimes I write stuff in the individual responses, sorry about that) for those who only have time to skim, and while I don't have a lot to say (I know Lisa is laughing :rotfl2:), here it is...

I started this PTR a month ago and we have less than two to go to Disney....it all still seems so surreal! I am still up in the air for all of the plans, the children have given me a dream list of where they would go if everything was free...most of it isn't happening but we shall see.

Want to hear the funny part...the only thing I know for SURE is happening will take place the last few hours before we check out...and I am not ready to tell that part yet, :lmao::lmao: (Okay Andrea are you reading?? I know how that makes you  when I do that...

We will be in Florida for my birthday...my perfect day would be to go to MK and see the new Fantasyland and have dinner at BOG...since they have been booked solid for over 6 months...that plan would not work anyway! :lmao: I better figure it all out we leave in 1 month, 3 weeks and 3 days...I have a LOT do do before then! The MAIN thing is to just be FAR AWAY from my house, its problems the doctors, my phone...sounds like a vacation to me!! :woohoo::yay::woohoo::yay::woohoo::yay::woohoo:

You slipped in on me my friend while I was playing with the smilies. With costs going through the roof it was even more of a huge blessing! The ONLY thing that hasn't gone up is Pete's salary I am afraid. It was very generous and kind.

Speaking of kind, Gail sent me the Wheat Belly diet book, I opened it last last night when we got home. No pics, I honestly didn't know what it was and it was late, the girls were already in bed when I saw it. I can't wait to learn more. She also sent the girls the AG movie about Saige, it aired a few weeks ago; however, they cut off the last two minutes of the movie and now we can see the movie start to finish without a commercial every seven minutes (we timed them, it was so annoying). THANK YOU GAIL the girls will be thrilled as well.

I am afraid the entire country is in for a rude awakening on the insurance front if things don't change soon.

Hugs to you Gail! I wil read your emails and respond soon, I have to get things going for our Saturday activities...Thank you again!

Queen of Cliffhangers at it again ;)

I'm glad you have something set in stone and I will be praying that it all works out perfectly and everyone is healthy so it doesn't have to be missed!!

Glad the kids can keep their docs.

Not only did we get their discounted rate they were offering but since we are also past guests (next cruise we go on we'll be boarding as Gold Members) we got that rate too. For my family of 5 in an ocean view we paid right around $1400!! Can't do that when we go to Disneyland or anywhere else for that matter! Plus we used it as a very nice relaxing vacation. The only one I had problems with crying was my youngest James. He's just not used to being left behind. But would get over it once we were gone and he got immersed in an activity. We're hoping to cruise again in the next year or two but with the new little one on the way it may be a little bit longer of a wait. Hopefully next time we cruise you guys are cruising too! Would be fun to meet up with other's who enjoy doing the same things that we like doing too.

Yay for being a GOLD member that is so exciting!! :thumbsup2 We are gold too, working on Platinum!!! You guys got a great rate!!! :worship: When the kids are grown and I'm retired I think I'll book all my cruises like you did!!

Congratulations on your new little one!! You must be so excited. :lovestruc

I agree that would be fun to meet up on a cruise. We love going the week I have off in February (during President's Day). Maybe we could cruise together then. We will be ready to go on another cruise probably about the same time frame you are thinking!!!:banana::banana:

Have a great day,

Madeline

You are so right about the planning being almost as much fun, because of the anticipation. I am STILL trying to get things settled. We had some news today that turned the plans on their heads, so I am back at square one, lol. I love that you get to cruise and enjoy the fun of that, I imagine it would be a blast!
I think if I ever actually got to go I wouldn't know what to do! :lmao: I am so happy the kiddos get to go with your parents so frequently, what a blessing. I am loving seeing you back on the boards so much, THANK YOU!!!

I am happy for things that help our sweeties hearts work..Pacemakers are a GREAT invention, Lisa may need one someday, her heart rate is so slow; however, even though Duke insisted she needed one, CHOP said she didn't...and we are so blessed she didn't need more surgery for that. She does have a mitral valve implant, it makes for a cool sounding heart. I am so thankful Mallory is doing as well as she is, she is such beauty We always do the manual pat downs as well, the first time Lisa had to have it doen she giggled non-stop, she thought it was funny..

You have definitely been missed!

I am so thankful Mallory can still wear her dress, it is a beauty! Our Tyedyes never fit us girls, but the guys had a great time wearing theirs...they still do! I am amazed anyone can make those Mickeys on anything..I am amazed by ALL of the BG items actually, it was a lot of love, expense hard work and obvious love! :cloud9::love:

You are so welcoming and sweet on your board that I love to come here it is uplifting, despite the struggles you face. You are an inspiration!!

I agree and feel so blessed by all they are able to do for kids with heart defects. Mallory had the same issue, her heart rate was really slow. When we had it done we faced what you guys face in that some doctors said yes she needed it and other doctors said no. They met on the issue a number of times and I guess that the yes voices were the loudest! :rotfl2: Of course I was super nervous before hand, but it ended up being a really easy surgery, as heart surgeries go. Next up for Mallory is a meeting with the endocrinologist. She is very small for her age and her growth hormone is low, so she will start taking nightly growth hormone shots. Of course she is not excited about this, but we promised we would get her the numbing spray and tried to convince her of all the benefits... still working on that!! :lmao:

The Big Give amazed us as well. The talent, dedication and love were so evident. It was one of the best things we experienced as a family!! :wizard::lovestruc:cloud9:

I can't believe the insurance issues you are having. It seems like it should be against the law to make these huge changes with little to no notice.

I loved seeing the pictures of your family opening those coolers. What a blessing that was. Was it a coincidence that Lisa ended up with all the pizzas on her lap or is that her favorite?

I am so excited that your trip is coming soon and I can't wait to hear what your plans are. Not ready to reveal huh... I'll be waiting... popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::

Talk to you soon,

Madeline

YAY for being able to keep all your doctors!!! :cool1:

BOO to the higher deductible!!!

My biggest fear is that we'll lose all our specialists with the "new" plan. I hope not. It took a lot of years and tears to find our current group of doctors. We already lost our physical therapist who was highly knowledgeable in connective tissue issues. I don't want to lose anymore!!

Glad to hear you've got some plans starting to form for your trip! I can't believe you're going so soon!! :goodvibes

Wow! What a wonderful surprise! That was very nice of Pam. I'm so sorry to hear about the insurance troubles. I understand what you mean about vacation. Just being somewhere other than home seems to make a lot of my worries seem less difficult to bear. Speaking of being away from home. We are leaving again on Friday on a another mini wish trip for John. This one isn't actually far from home but it will allow John to do something he has wanted to do for a few years in comfort and with plenty of down time. I'll wait to explain more on my PTR.
As always Praying for good things for all of you.

Hi Judy! I'm thrilled that Pam provided such a blessing to your family! That's awesome how the Lord knows exactly how to bless us in ways we don't expect. :)

I love that you focus on the positive and affirm everyone here and in your life even though your burden is heavy at times. All the things left unsaid (erased in your post that you chose to look at the positives) are the things that I will pray for since they do matter. Your lovely family is blessed to have such a wonderful mother/wife in you!

I can't believe I missed your call, I was upstairs and we keep the phone off up here so we can sleep.

Michelle, Your Pixie Dust is AMAZING!! I am so excited for you! ONe of these days I am going to be able to say I did that!

Sorry for the Cliffhanger, just need to wait a little longer for my own sanity. :lmao: It should be fun though.

It wil NOT be missed, sometimes you just see God work things out and get that feeling you know it will be ok.

It is a HUGE relief to keep their docs, we have had that happen before and sometimes there ISN'T an alternative. I wish I had the same insurance that elected officials are give that would be a huge blessing!

You are so welcoming and sweet on your board that I love to come here it is uplifting, despite the struggles you face. You are an inspiration!!

It isn't always easy to be positive but I confess this past month has been like I was back to my normal self. All the negativity has left my life and it is such a freeing feeling! I thank you for your kind words, I am happy you can see God working in our lives.

What a blessing to have doctors you can fully trust and believe to have the best interest of your child at the forefront of their thoughts. I am so sorry that she needs shots, but I have seen them work wonders for others and I pray they will do the same for our sweet little Mallory. Have you seen this?

BUZZY

They are on back order until September but you can find them on Amazon and they do have a few in stock. We haven't used it yet, but I thin it is worth a try to block the pain of the needles. The doctor who developed it, Amy, is extremely personable and personally answers your questions if you email.

I am nover short of amazed by the kindness and generosity of folks...there ARE far more good people than bad in the world.

The insurance is a necessary evil. Sadly they just have you. The new changes are worse than anything we have seen in this county in a very long time.

The pizza in Lisa's lap WAS coincidental..that child loves meat more than anyone I know (she loves pizza to though)! She would eat a big pile of meat and nothing else if I would let her...that and carrots make her happy...but we always have carrots. :lmao: For Christmas, Santa brought her three Turkey legs, and left them in our freezer wrapped up. She was BEYOND thrilled! IF we get to Disney maybe she will have another Turkey leg. :lmao:

Not quite the right time to share our last few hours yet...soon thought, the trip is rapidly approaching!

Time for School of Rock...

I have not been able to get your children's smiling faces out of my mind. Never have I seen children as thankful as yours for something so many take for granted. I see God's love in your family.

Celebrating your birthday at Disney sounds like fun, I hope it works out.

Checking in from PA, I spent some time with family who I only see every few years and it was wonderful :) I am so happy about the gift you received! What a blessing and it happened to such a deserving family, I hope you all enjoy it. Lisa sounds like my little sister, she is 15 and LOVES turkey legs! We were talking about what to do for our Thanksgiving dinner at Disney and she suggested we just get turkey legs! If your family and mine were going at the same time I would gladly smuggle one out of the MK for you, but we are missing each other. I am hoping you find a way to get there though! And I am excited to hear about your plans!

I know you understand how important it is to keep the medical team that knows your children. I am truly sorry to hear about the PT you can't use, that is just wrong on so many levels. We are in the process of fighting to keep Lisa's speech therapist, it is just unreal how they can choose to deny the obvious.

As for the trip..I can't believe it either! It still seems surreal...

It was such an unexpected surprise and brought such joy to the family! It just goes to show God is in control and takes care of us for all our needs. It definitely takes the burden off. I am so blessed to have so many folks who let me know they are here and care for our family. I appreciate that, because it is a gift. Thank you for your prayers for our unmet needs. We do have an abundance at the moment, but it is amazing how the blessings shown so freely to us help make them feel so light. Messages such as yours mean so much, Thank you! :goodvibes

I do love to see how excited they get when they receive a gift. They have never been children to take things for granted and I am thankful they are appreciative. God truly has blessed us.

I love the idea of Turkey legs for your Thanksgiving celebration. :goodvibes I am picturing you smuggling a Turkey leg to Lisa...she would be so happy! I am excited to hear YOUR plans... your Mom's BD trip is almost here! :woohoo::woohoo: I hope the rest of your trip is fun.

You ARE having a baby!!! :cheer2::cheer2: So excited for you still. I can understand DH holding off sharing the news, ya'll have had so much heartache.

I think we're going to be telling his family tomorrow at his brother's birthday dinner. :rotfl2: OOPS!! I think we're taking away from their thunder once again! Only reason why we'd do it tomorrow is because I think his mom, dad, step mom and brother and sister in law will be there so we can tell them all at once (but if they aren't all there we aren't telling). But we may hold off because his step dad went into the hospital on Friday and they are running some tests. His blood sugar level was at 26 and he wasn't able to hold down any food they gave him. They also found blood in what he wasn't able to hold down so they are going to be putting a tube down his throat on Monday and I'm very scared. He is very frail and sickly (we still don't know what's fully wrong with him) and they plan on putting him under. Please keep him in your prayers for a successful out come.

Any vacation you can be away from normal every day life is a blessing. I'm so glad you guys are getting this trip away from all that's been going on!

Yay for being a GOLD member that is so exciting!! :thumbsup2 We are gold too, working on Platinum!!! You guys got a great rate!!! :worship: When the kids are grown and I'm retired I think I'll book all my cruises like you did!!

Have a great day,

Madeline

If I wasn't so focused on going to Disneyland for our vacations I think we would have cruised more often. I'll also admit I was scared to bring the kids on a cruise ship. My biggest fear is they wouldn't listen and climb on the rails (which they never did!!) Plus I was waiting for the day they could enjoy the kids clubs because then we were able to have some adult time too (one of the pluses of cruising with Carnival, the kids can be 2 and not potty trained). I think one of the best times we had was when we'd leave them in the club for dinner. We'd be able to enjoy dinner with out the kids and didn't have to worry about them being too tired (we had late dining, only down fall about booking so close to cruising time you don't really get your choice of dining.)

As long as you have the freedom you do get some pretty great rates being able to book last minute. I think once the kids are older too we'll be cruising more (especially once they decide they don't want to do Disney any more).

Thank you! We are very excited especially since we've had a few problem along the way to reach this point (both before Jeremy and then again after James.)

We'll have to stay in contact and see if our paths ever cross. It'd be fun!!

I think we're going to be telling his family tomorrow at his brother's birthday dinner. :rotfl2: OOPS!! I think we're taking away from their thunder once again! Already leaving us with a cliff hanger!! So not nice!!

(especially once they decide they don't want to do Disney any more).
You have raised them right...that could NEVER happen...right??? I NEVER want to think of a day when mine don't want to do Disney! I can't fathom it!! :faint:
My prayers for your Step Dad Sandra. I hope he has a speedy recovery and i KNOW you will pick the right time to share the wonderful news about the baby!
I really don't mean to leave a cliffhanger, but i have learned I have to be careful when I share some things, it is just the way it is...but I did want you all to know I had one thing planned :woohoo:

I really didn't realize how much I wanted to get away until this vacay fell into our laps!! Don't get me wrong, I ALWAYS want to get away, I just don't dwell on it if I don't think it s a possibility! And now it is!! :woohoo::yay::yay::dance3::yay::yay::woohoo:

Have fun today and I WILL be praying!

Christian was in charge of our next movie night and it was my easiest one yet! He did all of the research for the meal, and found recipes he thought he would enjoy making and we would enjoy eating. He did all of the shopping and then the very best part..he did all of the COOKING!!! I think he had a great time and looked very at home in the kitchen. The last hour of his preparation I talked to Gail and Billy on the phone...heaven!

His food theme was French, with a twist because he picked The Hunchback of Notre Dame as his movie. I have to say, I have a NEW Disney favorite, I had never seen the Disney version and I really loved it! Esmerelda is my new favorite heroine, she actually reminds me a lot of myself when I was younger, which might explain why I think Disney should make her a princess. :lmao: Lisa was feeling a lot better for this movie night and it was just a fun, relaxing family time.

We also enjoyed grape juice (instead of wine) for those that wanted it. Looking at the pics, I might have enjoyed it so much because there weren't many veggies (spinach) and LOTS of starch. :rotfl2: The food WAS delicious, the movie was wonderful the company was delightful! I cant wait for it to be Christian's turn again!!!

Great job Christian on your movie night dishes! Judy, I picked a great time to call you last Sunday. Since Christian was taking care of the cooking, you had a chance to relax and talk on the phone with us. Glad the family enjoyed the meal and the movie. One of my favorite movies too!

Your move night looks great! Go Chritian!

I'm so glad Lisa is feeling better and hope everyone else is also doing well!

Your trip is getting close, how fun!!!

We just returned from a few days on Lake Michigan. I just love that side of Michigan and the beautiful, sandy beaches! It was a relaxing time and much enjoyed!

Everyone....have a great day! Ruth

Getting some much needed rain here so it's too muddy to be outside this morning. Love seeing what David did for his movie night! Tell him he did a great job with the creative ideas and names for his dishes. :thumbsup2 Hope there was good news with your Dad's doctor appointment yesterday.

Here's the way I make fried rice:

It’s best to use rice that has been cooked and been in the frig for a couple of days. I heat up a wok or large skillet with some olive oil and put in 2-3 eggs and scramble/fry the eggs. I use the wooden spoon to break into pieces or you can also use the cutting board and to chop the eggs into small pieces. Set aside. Chop up some green onions and cooked ham or whatever meat you have cooked. With the wok hot, add the cooked rice with some olive oil and add the chopped ham. Stir and break up the rice. Heat thoroughly. Then add the eggs and green onion. Season with black pepper and stir everything together. Divide onto plates and add Wheat-free soy sauce over the rice. Sorry about not including any type of measurements. You just adjust it to the amount of people you want to feed.

Judy, Here's a few recipe that you can try that uses substitute for noodles.

You can also try Spaghetti Squash to use instead. I tried it a couple of times but Billy isn't too crazy about it so haven't made it again.

Also wanted you to keep an eye out for a package coming your way next week.

I bookmarked that lettuce wraps recipe! I have eaten at PF Chang's a handful of times, and their lettuce wraps are a stand out!! I have only had their vegetarian version, however, but I'm sure I can easily modify this chicken recipe to be veg friendly! :) THanks for sharing it.
