so I thought I would come to the experts! We will be staying at BCV, in three weeks . I had a question about the tube rentals for the lazy river type area, at the pool, so I called BC. Everyone I talked to told me that there is no lazy river type area at SAB. They have no clue what I'm talking about. My questions...do they still have this? If they do, does DVC members pay the rental for the tubes? Can I bring my own tubes? Thanks!

Darn it!! Search function is down. I saw a really long thread on this the other day. Yes, you can rent them...and yes, you have to pay.

Posters were saying it is MUCH cheaper to buy your own, but they have to be clear (for safety reasons, so the lifeguards can see "under" them).

Someone posted this link, and I copied it for future reference. They said purchasing this was about equal to a one day rental.

I don't know who you spoke to but SAB most certainly does have a lazy river - a small one (not like the big ones at the waterpark but they do have one ). In any case, DVC members do have to rent the tubes just like any other guest of Yacht,BC or BCV's but you can bring your own. If you bring your own they have to be clear though for safety reasons - the life guards need to be able to see to the bottom of the pool. Alot of posters have reported getting them at Target fairly inexpensively. Last I heard though the tube rentals were $3 an hour or $10 per day per tube.

Thanks, guys. I talked to three different people and they all said there was no lazy river at SAB, only the water parks. Another question...does the tube have to be completely clear or can it have a little color tint to it? You can see through it, but it's not completely clear. I have a picture of SAB, on my desktop, and I can clearly see the lazy river! (I should email it down to the people I talked to! ). It looks like the tubes are yellow and definitely not see through.

The problem is probably the term "lazy river." Yes, of course there is one at SAB. What do the castmembers think they rent those tubes for, playing chess?

They also sell the 'noodles' that work really well in the Lazy river. I think they sold (not rented) them for only a few bucks.

Tubes are cool, but we made do with pool noodles. You can drift along with the noddle under your arms or under your bottom.

That's the problem...they don't know anything about tube rentals. When I called, all four times!, I did call it a lazy river type of area, where you float around in tubes. Still, they have no clue what I'm talking about.

I asked to be transferred to the pool area, and got the voice mail of the manager of Beaches n Cream/Hurricane Hannah's. I left him a message, who knows if he will even bother to call back. He's probably wondering why I would be calling him with this question!

yes, I think the clear tinted ones are what everyone has been saying they've been getting at target they do sell the noodles right at the gift shop in the BC too - that's where we got ours - it was $3 at the time (2yrs ago) but you can get them for like $1.50 at Wal-mart and target too.

Oh, btw, the yellow tubes you saw in the picture are the old tubes - they have since replaced them with the completely clear ones now - hence the new safety rule

My ds gets his hair cut once a month at the barber shop at MK and Michael, the barber said on our last trip that he'd just recently gone up through the castle (yes, I mean actually walking through it to get to fantasyland). He said he'd never actually gone any further into the park! I was shocked! I still wonder if he was serious - my dh said that he said this while I was of course paying no attention to the conversation as I was watching Heather cut ds's hair but wow - talk about a shock if it is true

So ya never know, some of the CM's may actually be that clueless about the pool

My ds gets his hair cut once a month at the barber shop at MK and Michael, the barber said on our last trip that he'd just recently gone up through the castle (yes, I mean actually walking through it to get to fantasyland). He said he'd never actually gone any further into the park!

The first time I went to Disneyland (shortly after the Punic Wars) I remember the driver of a parking lot tram boasting that he'd never been inside the park.

I've found the CM's at BC to be very friendly but not very knowledgable. Last January I asked them to help me track a package (a wedding gift a couple of fellow disers sent) and EVERY DAY for a week I was at the front desk and got nowhere. When we moved over into OKW I finally got some resolution, unfortunately the package was returned to the sender that day because shipping couldn't find me.

Why does it not surprise me that they don't even know they have a lazy river?

OK...just got off the phone with someone from the BC/BW recreation department (George, the manager from Beaches n Cream gave him my number...very nice of George!) anyway...here's the scoop....DVCers have to pay for the tube rental, we already know that, but this was something not mentioned here...if your tube is NOT transparent, it cannot be bigger than 36". If you bring one that is transparent, and I asked if a tinted tube that was still see through would be ok, he said that yes, as long as you can see through it, it can be 48". So, if you have a tube 36" or smaller it doesn't have to be clear.

I think the problem is the use of the term "lazy river". The current area at SAB that people use tubes is anything but lazy it is a fast current situation.

You know it's very hard for everyone that frequents a Disney board to believe this, but please respect the CM that makes minimum wage, probably works 2 jobs to make a living and can not afford to spend his time or money at a expensive theme park.

Also please remember that to many it is "work" and they do not want to spend their leisure time where they work or would most people.

This is not addressed to you Rocketriter, but a general observation.

I have read other posts on this forum that are borderline disrepectful to CM's that don't live and breathe everything Disney. To some it is a job and they are glad to be away from it when work is over. Especially the way some are treated lately by their bosses and the customer.

I am sure if I worked for Hershey, by the end of the day I would be sick of chocolate.

If you called the Front Desk at the Beach Club you are not actually talking to someone at the actual Front Desk, you are talking to an operator that might be located elsewhere not even at the Beach Club. Front Desk clerks do not answer phones. I feel sure if you had walked up to the desk there, someone would know that tubes are used in the pool. Possibly not everyone there would, some might be new, but there would be some familar with pool operations.

Just as the lifegaurds probably know very little about Front Desk operations so would the same be for Front Desk and the pool specifics.

I think the lazy river thing may be throwing everyone off. Most people picture a big loong river, like the one at TL or BB. At SAB, the area is more like a small part of the pool that has a current.

In any event, we bought noodles for $1 at WalMart and they worked fine all throughout SAB and no CM of lifeguard had a problem with them, or considered them a safety issue. I would not be considered "petite" in any culture, and the noodle held me up just fine floating.

An added benefit was that we made some kids happy when we left because we were not going to take our $1 noodles on the plane home, so we gave them to the kids across the hall from us at BCV the day we left.

All I can tell you about SAB and the lazy river is that when we were there a woman slipped out of her tube and the lifeguard had to jump in and rescue her!! I don't think I would go through the trouble of bringing my own tube, but the noodle idea sounds good. And it just doesn't seem big enough to got through the expense of renting a tube for that.... JMHO
