Found some photos of the damage done to the Vero Beach area of Florida. Found 1 photo of the VB resort, unfortunately most of the resort is under a cloud, you can see building 15 and the 2 outer buildings.

VB resort is at the top, on the top left corner is the parking lot and two of the tennis courts, across the highway and down just a bit you will see the 3 buildings. Sorry, looks like mother nature didn't co-operate with the NOAA pilots and photographers.

Hey found a better one,

the photo wasn't rotated so VB is on the left hand side of the Island about half way down, Doesn't look like too much damage.

Wow! VB looks OK, but look at the damage to the properties north of it!! This is a testament to the quality of Disney's construction.

Oooh, looks like the beach part lost a LOT of sand. Now I know it has never been all that wide, but look how narrow it has gotten! Hope those turtles will still have someplace to lay their eggs.

What a great picture of the resort! It really shows the erosion to the dunes. I can't believe how close to the edge some of the beach cottages are now. And look where the fire pit is compared to the edge of the dune. I have no idea how they will be able to restore it or stop it from eroding further. One more storm like the past few and I think some of those cottages won't make it.

Unfortunately that site and my computer are not seeing eye to eye.
I get the image for a moment, then it goes away... :(

Really? Seems like the beach is much wider to me. I wonder if this is High tide or low tide.

Thank you dday2021, great to see.

Thanks for the photo. It looks better than I expected, but sad, nonetheless. I wish there was a before and after picture to really be able to compare. That would be very interesting to do.

Thanks for the fix MarkRG, I was unable to resize/crop due to my computers limitations at work.
I've never been to VB before but from following the storm track it looks like Jeanne came ashor less than 25 miles to the south. Some of the reports I've seen say up to 25 feet of shorline has been eroded and dunes are cut off 5 - 10 feet deep.

Now thay I see the cropped picture, it looks like it's the dunes that have eroded, while the beach is about the same width, just set a yard or two further back (note where it has undermined part of the campfire area).

It looks like the end of the ramp is missing too :( , something I hope they'll fix by January when we get there, as DS is lookng forward to borrowing those awesome beach wheelchairs with the fat-tires, so he can go on the beach like everyone else.

Thanks for the great aerial view.
Wanted to try to get south of the access to take a look at the south cottages as from afar they looked like they suffered the most but it was blocked off due to the damage. Being that a nice IRC officer escorted me down to the Beach to begin with,I didn't want to press my luck.

Must be me, because the beach looks wider to me.

I hope the ramp is fixed as well.

Thanks for the great photos.

OMG:eek:

Mike-that comparison really puts it into perspective. Thanks!

We blew up the aerial photo in the link, cropped it and zoomed in and things look bad enough to make it very un-Disney like. But if you look at the surrounding damage, it looks great. It looks to me like the back doors/windows area in the inn building has plywood on it. Maybe that all got blown out?

Anyone have info on teh beach reclaimation project that was under discussion last year for the area?

the beach could be said to be wider - the vegetation is simply gone for about 15 to 20 yards! the sand has pushed up where the vegetation used to be, so the beach has moved much closer to the structures

where the cabanas used to be set up and where most people would sit on the beach is shown to be under water...I would expect the photo was near low tide with the tide coming in - I would think at high tide the sand bar you see closest to the water is under water

it will take some adjustments...I expect Disney will work long-term to build up some of the dunes and plant vegetation to maintain a natural barrier and protection, but I also think a sand renourishing project is needed, but that can take a long time

I am so thankful the structures survived - I think they will be repaired nicely and the grounds restored very nicely, although the beach area will never be the same - just different - looks like we will still have sand to walk on!
