No World of Color Labor Day weekend?? Updated Post #15

Someone previously said something about AP holders. I honestly don't think Disney really cares if APs have to wait months or a year to see the show. It doesn't really effect them. Sure, AP holders may complain but I don't see that doing any good.
Hmmm. Disney is not perfect but they do have a reputation for positive customer service. The company you describe above sounds like one that has poor or zero customer service. I wonder why you do business with them at all. :confused3

It wouldn't surprise me to see no WoC on the schedule for the off-season. I could see them doing a couple shows on the weekends, perhaps. But I don't see the doing three a day. Especially not on weekdays.

Big shows like that are EXPENSIVE. Not just the show itself, but all the CMs they have to staff for shows like this. Bottom line is the money. Disney will decide if it's worth the expense to have the show running all week or just weekends or whatever.

Is WOC expensive? Once you've put in the fountains and lasers and projectors, what is the incremental cost per show? They need crowd control people but they have rides closed, too. There are no live performers or fireworks. It almost seemed like they designed a show that would have low costs.

I think they care about AP holders, too. They need to sell those APs next year. And if the people don't use them, they don't get the revenue from food and parking and souvenirs and all. I think SoCal residents are DL's bread and butter.

You're joking, right?

I love Disneyland. Always have, always will. (I love Disneyworld too.) But they are a business just like many others. Yes, they tend to have great customer service compared to many other businesses but they are still a business and money is typically the bottom line. And I can't say I blame them. (You'll notice I didn't say anything about not liking Disney's business practices. I don't have a problem with what they do at all.)

It makes little sense to show WoC all week long during the off season. I'm sure it's insanely expensive. Especially since they'd have to keep the park open at least a couple hours later than usual (6pm during weekday off season.) So to me, I just can't see them doing it at all on weekdays this Fall.

Of course, only time will tell what they actually end up doing. Hopefully they will get some more information out soon. We've been doing the "HalloweenTime Information Boogie" on the super thread. Lol!

I have no idea how much it costs. I don't, nor have I ever, worked for Disney. I just imagine they have to staff quite a few people for everything. And if the off season they'd actually have to leave the parks open quite a bit later, I imagine.

Like others, I am merely stating my own point of view and making my own speculations.

Here's my concern about not showing WOC during the fall period: The MHP. If they are expecting to have Disneyland closed early for the party I would have thought part of the reason they moved it to DL was so WOC could sort of be there to draw in the guests who can't be in DL. I definitely never expected there to still be 3 shows a night during the weekends or even the weekdays, but couldn't they at least do 1 a night? Or even every other night, and then the weekends? At the very least I'll be mostly surprised if they don't at least show it in October on the nights of the MHP. With WOC being so new and a big draw I was under the impression they at least meant to show it year round for a little while, not just during the summer and then nothing. When I see commercials for it, they aren't for WOC and Summer Nightastic! but for World of Color. Why advertise it and not specify it will be a summer show only?

Is it just me or is it beginning to feel like Disney is flying by the seat of their pants right now eith what will be happening in the Fall, lol.

I definitely think they are flying by the seat of their pants right now. I doubt they even know what they are going to do with the show schedule this Fall.

I imagine they would add some WoC shows for weekends. But I would be surprised to see any on week days. If anything, maybe, like you mentioned, on Halloween Party days. That would make sense to me.

This is another reason why I'm really getting tired of DL's poor strategic planning. It's like they're operating for "now" and can't get their act together and plan for the future. The MK's park hours and basic show schedule is posted out until Jan 2011!

Here at DL, we're lucky to get 8 weeks advance notice. :headache::mad:
You are comparing apples and oranges. WDW serves a predominantly tourist crowd from out of the area (85% of WDW visitors are out of area if memory serves). They have 20+ hotels. They having a whole resort where they are trying to keep people on Disney property for their entire stay in Orlando. They have tons of dining options to offer. They offer dining reservations 180 days in advance. They cannot offer ADRs very well without posting the park hours, extra magic hours and entertainment.

DLR caters more to SoCal locals. Locals are predominantly on day trips. They do not care as much about dining, or table service. DLR has easy parkhopping so attendees have low commitment to particular parks on particular days. DLR does not need to post hours and entertainment far advance to support other events. So they do not.

WDW does not post hours far in advance because they are so much more organized. They have to to support their programs. Does it make it easier to makes plans at WDW? Yes. Does it make planning more necessary? Also yes. The nice thing about DLR is it is easier to be casual about which parks on which days, dining, afternoon breaks, and just about everything. That kind of goes with the territory of DLR not making it necessary or possible to make firm plans 6 months in advance.

Sorry, those questions were more rhetorical than directed at you.

Exactly. I thought they moved the Halloween party to DL BECAUSE of WOC and I thought it would be so popular they would show it once nightly for awhile. We all remember how insane DL was during Halloween time last year and I thought WOC was supposed to draw people to DCA year round. I find it surprising..they don't seem to know what to do with this show...maybe they have heard the complaints about lack of storyline/heart (hmm Steve Davison's original presentation had planty of heart) and also the viewing complaints..maybe they are going to try and tweak it..or..how about a Halloween theme..maybe it's going down to transition. It's supposed to be able to to be switched quickly, so maybe they're doing that. Maybe they're trying to decide how to to tier viewing better. I'm hoping they have a plan..they usually do, but they're pretty tight lipped about it. Just suprised that things less than 2 months out seem so unorganized.

this is what i was thinking also.

I also would br surprised if WOC doesn't extend the hours of DCA during the fall, I kinda thought that was the whole point of WOC, to get more people into DCA, and, alongside Carsland, make the Disneyland resort a true two park destination. APs will stay longer and thus spend more money if they keep WOC open through fall (although I don't imagine it running weeknights ) and if they really don't care at all about APs then Disney should expect to lose some, customers sence those sort of things
I think the AP payment plans are an example that DL wants to keep it's APs.
