Unfortunatly no congrats are in order, but thanks anyway!!

We are recinding our contract tonight (hubby is writing the letter right now) they told us a lot of tall tales to get us to buy and we were told at least 3 flat out lies. The rooms and area are beautiful, but luckily I can easily make a day trip to the area.

I'm pretty upset that all of this is happening, and it has left a bitter taste in my mouth about week long timeshares, but I still won't be opposed to one in the future, just not with this company, I would probably check into Marriott or the likes.

One of our EOY's is with Marriott. We like the quality of Marriott Vacation Club just as well as we do our DVC (as you can see from my signature - laughter). So glad you are getting your DVC! You won't go wrong with Disney.

I am glad to hear this! I don't think you can go wrong with disney or with marriott.

I agree that Marriott and Disney are about the best timeshares in the industry. We began with DVC, and had such a good experience buying a timeshare and using it, so we bought a Marriott resale! We now have 3 weeks there, and 900 points, so we have really bought into the whole timeshare thing. It was, of course, the best decision we ever made, and now that we are near retirement we will be able to use it all!:goodvibes

I suggest you get DVC to break up your DVC points into 2 contracts--I think they will do that, so 100 points and 60 points. IF you ever need to sell some points, it's very easy with smaller contracts. I do not think there is any charge for DVC to do this---but it must be in original contract and paperwork--they can't be broken up later. The points still function the same as a 160 single contract.

I didn't even know they will do that!!

Hopefully my guide will come back to the office soon so I can get my questions answered. I hate that it is impossible to just get a few questions answered without talking to a certain person.

My hubby wants his answers right then and there or else he will change his mind. This doesn't work in my favor a lot of times.

if you do not want or need 160 points right now, you can also buy resale and add on in 25+ points sets thru DVC later--it's very easy (that is what we are doing--bought 50 points and are adding on 50-100 points next year). You can look up top here at DVC Resale Listings---those are The Timeshare Store listings--they have good reputation and lot of folks here (including me) have bought thru them--only downside--take 8 weeks to close--but if you don't need to use your points before them, no downside. Just giving you another option to think about--also resale contracts come and go everyday--so, if you don't see one you like, surf for a month or so and you'll find it. good luck. Elaine

I was looking at a nice 50 point contract, and then hubby decided he didn't want to bother with financing and what not and since it was going to be around $5,500 he would rather start with 160.

My hubby is confusing and contradicts himself on an hourly basis, I can't keep up with him... I swear its the ADHD that does this.

I don't know if they are still doing the member referral, etc. You should look at "current incentives" posts to make sure you are getting everything--the referral one you have to affirmatively do. I think you get extra points and the DVC member who referred you to DVC gets some extra points, as well. Good luck. Elaine

I glad you are actually getting the surprise you wanted!! :cheer2:

What home resort do you want to purchase??

Me too. Sorry about the hassle you had with the other timeshare but the outcome might just be that you get DVC after-all! Yippee for you! Keep us posted!

I am too!!

We are really into Saratoga Springs.

Hubby will wait if he can't get SSR, and I probably won't mind. Neither of us like AK, so we don't want our home to be AKL.

If his mind changes again, and he wants resale, I am game for any of the beachy resorts like okw, boardwalk etc.

Congratulations on DVC now! I know it has been a long time coming for you...I think you will be happy with it! It really stinks about the other timeshare, but at least you found out the problems early on. Best of luck with your guide, keep us posted!

I know right!! I feel like it has been forever, and so many times I have posted about being thisclose to buying and then something happened or hubby changed his mind or whatever.

I should have known when the other timeshare person started making up complete nonsense about dvc that he was lying and stupid.

Well, FWIW, my DH was anti-timeshare of any kind, even DVC, for many years. Then he heard that AKV was being built and as soon as it went on sale, he purchased 200 points there, and another 160 at SSR because he got such a great deal. He then bought BCV resale a month later. I think I created a monster, but somehow, I don't mind!!!

I wish I had been in your position when I was a twenty-something!

Buying direct from Disney for your first purchase means you can't break up the 160 points. But any add-on's you do in the future could be as small as 25 points (non financed) and 50 points (if you are financing through Disney).

If you buy resale, you can buy any size you want (as long as Disney doesn't ROFR it).

Saratoga is a great choice (including financially) especially if you enjoy the resort.

Being young and with out human children you probably have greater flexibility with you travel times and an easier time switching resorts. It's those kids that really crap your style. We're resigned to 2 bedrooms at high point cost and airfare times for the next 12 years. :scared:

Man can I relate on the kids! We, however, are down to 3 years left...then Mom and Dad are leaving the nest :rotfl2:
