No wbta 2013

Monica, (Mishoe01),

I just noticed you live in Davenport! I take ASL (American Sign Language) classes there. (or I did as we are on break for the holidays)

Wow, Norman, we're practically there!

What were some things that people did in Madeira? We took the hop-on, hop-off bus to tour around and then did the Brandywine visit. Just curious as to what else we could look forward to! :)

We walked around Funchal, shopped for shoes (b/c I accidentally forgot to bring a pair to match one of my dresses), and rode the cable car/tram/whatever to the top of -- whatever you'd call it. Dennis wanted to see the church there, and the view was fabulous. I think Madeira was our favorite port. Like Linda said, there was a lot to see just wandering around.

Can one of you port sleuths please list the port schedule for the Magic on our "rumored" 2013 TA - I can't find the page it was on!! Thanks!

Wow JessicasMom just told me about this thread yesterday and you guys are already on page 31!

We are definitely in again. Lauren, James and DD Lorelei :goodvibes

When we got home last time we told the TA that if the WBTA was happening in 2013 we would definitely be on that ship. Glad to see so many returning people.

I hope we do get to go to Venice that would just make things extra exciting.

DH told me about this post that had been started last night and asked if I wanted to go on this cruise because David, Amanda and Holly are going. (And we haven't meet them in person yet!)

I said I would think about it. Please add us to the list
NWDad and NWMom Kevin and Skye and (at time of cruise) dd11 Kate
I can see some homeschooling/history-geography units to tie this in.

So Amanda, David and Holly Shhhhh. I am hoping with this many pages he will miss this post and I can surprise him.
Especially David- you guys are too funny.

We picked our Dec 15, 2012 trip because the cruise meet people seemed fun.
Picking this one for the same reason. Nice blend of adventure and sense of humor.

Why the WBTA?
May is nice. October the rain starts. Like the people.
Ports of the last WB nicely complement where we will be going. New places to visit! (except Venice, been there before hoping to improve the memory by going in style instead of the poor college student route)

Can't wait until they make it official.

I Loved Madeira - and I didn't do anything. Funchal is rich with detail. Tile work. wood work. beautiful cutwork embroidery and leather. streets paved in black and white stones in different patterns. gardens. Spent HOURS walking and then taxied back for portugese lunch at the buffet. I KNOW there was more to see had I taken a tour, but what I saw made me happy.

We had visited on a previous cruise and did the island tour so this time decided we would do our own thing. We took the cable car up to the summit and walked to the beautiful church in the village. There are numerous things available at the top....ie whizzing down in a straw basket, visiting the Botantical Gardens, having lunch up the top, walking down if feeling energetic. We used the cable car back down and took more photo's of fantastic views and then walked the streets buying some Madeira at Blandy's on the way back to the ship.

Pat, we did the 'whatever' too. LOL
Weren't the views wonderful going up/down and from the Church...we loved it.

We especially liked looking down into people's gardens and houses but wouldn't want to live under that 'whatever'. No privacy whatsoever. LOL

:scared1::scared1: indeed some of those houses looked like they had no right to be there according to the law of gravity !!!
The whole scene was so pretty, even down to the fruit trees growing in peoples gardens
:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 I liked Madeira, we had a wonderful dinner in Palo watching Madeira turn to dusk then dark, and the light's come up..... much wonderful memories, lets hope we get another chance to relive them

We are considering it! We were originally going to China in May 2013 but rethinking it. We are also interested in some of the west coast originating cruises like Panama Canal if offered, or Hawaii. We loved our WBTA so much that we are considering it again.

Nice to see some familiar faces!

We took the cable car up the top to see the views and met up with Mary & Stevie, we had a drink & took some photos then walked around the corner to see the straw baskets & came back down in the cable car. We then walked through the town and went into the supermarket to stock up on some essentials (aka booze ;) ) then we stopped off at a bar for a beer & used the free wifi before heading back to the ship.

Oh Norman that is SO depressing!!! It's miles away when you look at that! 22 months sounds better than 642 days!!!

Would love to go on WBTA in 2013 if offered - keeping our fingers crossed - because we had a blast on the 2010 WBTA! We've got to see how things play out though! Booked Hawaii October 2012!

I didn't do a trip report for our 2010 WBTA but I did (finally) finish a photobook. Hoping the link I post works. Enjoy!

Madiera was gorgeous. I wish we had thought of having dinner in Palo when we took off. Thanks for the wonderful idea! I bet it was an amazing view.

I have never read this before, I have no idea why not. It brought back all the fantastic memories from that magical cruise. Thank you Sarah!

(Downside is that I am miles behind on my day's work) :rolleyes1:rolleyes1

Glad you liked it

We did the cable car / church / basket ride / walk back to town combo the first time around. Last time we did the Santa Maria ship tour. Both were really good ways to experience Madeira. Next time ... we may just pop into town for a coffee and general wander about , and pick up some supplies at the supermarket ... the wine was cheaper there than Morrissons if I remember correctly.

That has really depressed me Norman ...... I keep making myself believe it is really close !!!
