So I emailed my guide today as we are interested in a 50 point add on and he states that DVC is not accepting any wait list requests for VGF. Huh? Anyone else heard this? I had seen points coming through on wait lists the last few weeks so I know they were accepting them before. Are Poly sales so bad they are restricting an alternative resort?

Interesting. I am sure with everyone wanting blt and vgf over poly they are pushing poly. Maybe he gets a sales bonus at poly he doesn't get somewhere else so is trying to steer you in that direction. Just tell him if you can't waitlist you will go resale and he will put you on a waitlist in 0.5 seconds

It's all about the money, Disney would rather focus on the more profitable sales at their active resort, dealing with add-ons at the closed resorts doesn't make them enough money.

Trying to buy resale, they may ROFR and give the contract to the waitlist or you are looking at paying equal to more for a stripped contract.

There is very little danger of Disney exercising rofr on vgf contracts. Not for the prices sellers are willing to take. People are going to languish on that wait list longer than a resale would take for sure. That said, if you would prefer to add on at vgf direct, you just keep calling and complaining until someone agrees to add you. My sister asked to speak with a senior guide and she got added. I would just go resale. Not much savings but one of those cases where resale is just easier.

The waitlist for VGF was supposedly "closed" on May 18. At least this is what our guide told us and there have a couple of other reports on here of the same. I know there are some others on here who have suggested that it isn't true and that it is just a sales ploy to try to force you to buy at Poly, but I personally don't believe that is the reason because it seems as though they are happy to add you to the waitlist for any of the other resorts, just not the VGF. So it doesn't sound like they are lying to me. In fact, our guide never even asked us if we wanted to buy at the Poly. I think the waitlist just grew to be too long and they needed to cut it off, at least for the time being. But who really knows...

I've seen reports that the VGC waitlist was closed, since it's a mile long with an average wait over a year. But this is the first I've heard of the VGF waitlist being closed. They had a hard enough time selling it to begin with; I can't imagine they'd just close it off now. What will they do with foreclosures?

There have been reports of them closing the waitlist for VGF.

SomeImaginationHuh is correct. The guides cannot add anyone else to the waitlists for BCV, VGC or VGF. I live close to WDW and know lots and lots of DVC folks. Absolutely correct. My understanding is that the waitlists have gotten so long it will take years to fulfill them so they have stopped.

For the life of me I do not know why DVC doesn't exercise ROFR more often. Seems like easy money to me.

Actually VGF sold VERY briskly from opening date for both members and later for prospects.

The waitlist for Grand Cal shut down one week after we closed on our 50 points there. We had been on the waitlist for 14 months. Boy, we were lucky.

I was told by my DVC salesperson that the wait lists for BCV, VGF and VGC were closed as of May 18. I got on the VGF wait list for another small add-on a few days before because I'd heard the rumors about Disney closing the wait list.

Wish I had heard about the VGF wait list closing. I suppose it was posted somewhere here but I somehow missed it. I would have liked for them to announce it but I realize that would have only bumped up the length of the list. I just can't see how the wait list for VGF got that long when they only recently "sold out".

VGF sold very well and quickly and is a very small resort with not a lot of points. waitlist will be full quicker than other resorts.

they come up pretty often resale but at the prices sellers are charging i don't see Disney excercising ROFR

Plus we really only want 50 points, kinda tough to get resale and the prices aren't much better than they were through DVC.

Now we have to decide if we want to wait to see if VGF becomes available soon, adding on at BLT or perhaps buying at the Poly, though we'd probably need 100 points there and I really don't want to own a 4th resort.

As someone who is waiting on ROFR with about 10 days left for VGF I am VERY happy to hear this!

I am only speculating here, but I suspect that Disney may not exercise their ROFR based on the fact that not doing so supports the secondary market, and therefore supports the price to current and future owners, thereby making DVC look more attractive. If they exercised ROFR, they take the risk that they have inventory they may or may not be able to sell, even though there is a wait list a mile long. With foregoing their ROFR, they get "guaranteed" MF's and a happy new owner. Additionally, not exercising ROFR means they can (with a clear conscious) say "sorry, no availability in VGF/BLT/etc, but look at our shiny new Poly that you can buy!

Because Disney gets contracts back for free when owners foreclose on their loans or cannot pay their MFs. So why ROFR a VGF contract for $150 per point when you'll get a similar contract back for free? The profit margin just isn't there much of the time on ROFRed contracts.

That's soooo sad. I feel so bad for people who wanted a piece of the magic but is a stretch for their income, and/or financed thinking they had the income but hit a bump on the road.

I truly think dvc should be bought with cash. Then you can resell quickly (ish) and, in today's market, easily. So sad.
