No. Try not. Do... or do not. There is no try. - ToT 10 Miler & F&W - Updated 12/21

:crazy2: Running in the humidity is the worst. I seriously don't know how you do it in Florida...I'm starting to feel like I'm wilting and I'm up here in the Midwest!
I also went over to Boca for an outdoor concert with 3 of my coworkers to see Lindsey Stirling. I’ve never heard of her before but my coworker wanted to go. It actually was really cool as she dances while she plays the violin.
Um...that sounds awesome! I'm going to have to look this lady up! :)
Look at that sunset!

So pretty! :yay:

Good luck with the summer running. It's soooo rough!

I am with Shannon. I don't know how you do it! That heat and humidity can't be fun to train in. I suppose the upside to it is that when you run a disney race you are not totally thrown by it.

Beautiful pic!

Yes. It is the worst! Unfortunately, I don't have much of a choice if want to run outside.

She was great in person but not sure if I would listen to her outside of live as I really only listen to music when I am running.

Beautiful pic!

It will be the upside about the Disney Races. The treadmill has been getting more visits than the roads though because of the weather.

Good training week...I love the sunset!

Thanks!

I hope you are having a happy birthday!

:bday:party::bday:

I did! Totally one of the best birthdays in a long time! Between my husband, my coworkers and my friends, it rocked!

July Week 2 Run Update

Monday, July 7th
W5D7 - Rest Day! It was also bowling league day with work.

Tuesday, July 8th
W6D1 - 52 Minute Run - Ended up w/ 13:41pace for 3.8 miles.

Wednesday, July 9th
W6D2 - Didn’t Happen. I ate yummy food @ Sea Salt instead for their wine dinner.

Thursday, July 10th
W6D3 - Didn’t happen. After work, we drove to Disney & ate dinner at Fulton’s. We didn’t get settled until almost 11PM.

Friday, July 11th
W6D4 - Well, It kinda happen. Let’s look at the mapmyrun from 7:06am when I woke up and got moving:

B41W9he.png

See that sharp dip in pace about 22 minutes in? I had a fight with a pine cone and lost. I twisted my ankle as I was going up a bridge at Port Orleans Riverside on my loop. I walked/hobbled back to the room. I somehow also was able to go around Typhoon Lagoon and the steps until I was crying in pain. We bought a brace for me at Walgreens for $17 but when we went to DTD for some Disney Quest action, Fit2Run got $67 from us on a compression brace instead. That $67 was so worth it. It made bowling and walking actually doable with some pain medication! Somehow I walked 9 miles over the course of the day on the bum ankle. Probably not a smart idea.

Saturday, July 12th
W6D5 - Ha! I did walk through HS & EPCOT & Monorail Resorts for a total of 8.8 miles according to my pedometer. Not a smart life choice.

Sunday, July 13th
W6D6 - Also didn't happen. The last two days caught up to me. My bruise is surfacing and its still swollen. When got home around 11AM & my only plan for the day is to be lazy and soak my foot in epsom salt. I’m going to redo my training plan. I’m going to end up not running until its better. I will try to keep up with the time for the runs by just walking instead in a few days.

Glad you had a good birthday... but OUCH on the ankle! So easy to twist an ankle when there is "nature" in the way. This is why I stay off of trail runs (for the most part and I won't say never..but...) too easy to hurt yourself on a silly thing like a rock or pine cone. Ice and compression seemed to help mine....hopefully yours will heal super quick!

I avoid trails too. This was a paved road near a bridge over the river in Port Orleans. The official running path of the resorts.

The compression is helping but two days of walking on it did not help. I was lazy yesterday and only walked 2 miles total yesterday according to the pedometer which is good. I'm trying not to move a lot today either as well but I am at work so it depends on how the day goes.

July Week 3 Run Update

Monday, July 14th
Rest Day!

Tuesday, July 15th
Rest Day Again!

I also visited the doctor that comes to work on Tuesdays to have him look at my ankle. He worked on breaking up some of the scar tissue and working the muscles that are overworking thanks to the damaged ones. No running for me this week! I can walk though.

Wednesday, July 16th

W7D1 - It was supposed a 52 minute run that consisted of a 5 minute warm up, 4 minute run, 2 min walk (repeat 6 more times), 5 minute cool down. I didn’t do that though. I walked for 54 minutes at a 16:58 pace so I ended up doing 3.18 miles.

As I was finishing up at the gym, it began hailing. I wasn’t going to go to my car in that, so I did...

W7D2 - 40 minutes on the bike. I usually keep the pace above 15mph @ a high level to get a good work out for my legs. I didn’t do that today. I was at a level 10 out of 20 and stayed slow around 12 mph as I didn’t want to over do it. I probably shouldn’t have done the bike as towards the end, I could tell it wasn’t happy. At least the bad weather had stopped so I could go home!

Thursday, July 17th

W7D3 - 52 Minute “Run” - It was a walk again. Instead of heading to the gym, I walked up and down my street.

Here’s what mapmyrun told me:

XvvBIAK.png

This makes me happy that I finished at a 15:59 pace. It gives me hope that when I die off in ToT, I will be able to finish & still meet course requirements. At the end, I felt I could still keep going even with it being in the heat at 5:30pm in the evening.

I also got my cruise documents in the mail today for our cruise! Only 6 more weeks!!!

Friday, July 18th

W7D4 - 55 Minute “Run” - It was a walk yet again. I actually ending up splitting this run into 2 walks. I got home from work shortly after 3PM & went out to start my walk as I wanted to go to the movies. Almost right at the half way mark, I was back at my house & I was thirsty and beat from the heat & high humidity so I decided to just go inside the house, have some water & cool down as there is no shade on my street. I then got distracted by work emails and next thing I knew, 30 minutes passed. At 4:30PM, I went out for the 2nd half.

For the 1st Half, I completed 1.71 miles at 15:53 min/mi
For the 2nd Half, I completed 1.76 miles at 15:38 min/mi
So overall, 3.47 miles at a 15:45 min/mi according to the pace calculator.

Again, that makes me happy as it was fully a walk instead of a run & I’m still under a 16 min/mi.

My ankle was still feeling sore though :/

Saturday, July 19th
W7D5 - 40 Minute Cross Training
I did the bike at lower intensity than normal. Ended up doing 8.44 miles in 40 minutes. Followed it up with some abs & arm work.

Sunday, July 20th
W7D6 - 90 Minute “Run”

bpmhsTu.png

Again, more of a walk than a run but I did run in little bursts of 10 to 30 seconds here and there which probably wasn’t smart as my ankle is very sore now. The first 60 minutes went well enough. I had brought the Stridebox water bottle with me but the cap didn’t seal right so I abandoned it about 10 minutes in on the side of the road & picked it back up about 55 minutes in as I passed it again only to drop it off on my driveway to pick it back up when I got home. I didn’t feel bad outside of being sweaty, at first. The Salted Watermelon Gu I had at 45 minutes tasted so good. After the 60 minute mark, well, I was yelling at myself internally for even considering running 10 miles, much less that 10K + Half Marathon in January. I was hating everyone & everything. This thought process continued as I got inside, had 1 cup of low-fat chocolate milk, peeled off the very sweaty clothes & took a shower. I’ve never felt like throwing up so much in my life but my body just wouldn’t let me no matter how much I tried. I was shaking as well. I texted my husband to tell him as much & he yelled at me for having a nuun tablet prerun & he thinks that is what caused me to do that at the end. I’m going to try not having the nuun pre-run next long run & see what happens.

This was my food & beverage intake for the run:

22 Ounces of Water w/ Nuun Tablet Pre Run
3 Sport Beans Fruit Punch About 15 minutes IN
1 Salted Watermelon Gu 45 minutes in
12 ounces of water - 55 minutes in
Rest of the Sport Beans Fruit Punch Pack - 70 minutes in
1 Cup Low Fat Chocolate Milk - When I got back inside the house - 85 minutes In (I called it a bit short as I was back at my house and mentally & physically done)

My other thought is that maybe I didn't drink enough water on Saturday. At work, its a lot easier to remember to drink water as I'm at my desk half the day with a liter of water in front of me. At home, I get more distracted.

Thoughts?

Added Comments @ 7:00PM - I wrote this post almost immediately getting settled back from my run. An hour after I posted this, I felt normal again. I wasn't sore after that except my ankle

July Stridebox

UXbVemk.jpg

Picture of July’s Stridebox. I’ve already used the nuun tablets before so new flavors are fine. It made me think of Ariel484 as apparently Salted Watermelon is the official flavor for the Cleveland Rock’n’Roll races. Getting another water bottle is always good as is trying a new flavor for the Stinger Waffles.

July Week 3 Run Update

I have to say... you did an awesome job this week! Walking when you were not able to run rather than just saying you couldn't do anything. :worship: you should be proud of yourself!

little bursts of 10 to 30 seconds here and there which probably wasn’t smart as my ankle is very sore now. The first 60 minutes went well enough. My thought is it wasn't just the nuun. I think you may have taken in "too much" I think the combination of the beans, nuun and gu may have been too much for your body to try and use. Everyone is different and sometimes people need very little and take in nothing...and then fuel all at once. I know I would likely get sick if I did that. What I do... one bean per mile and sips of water along the way. I have tried cliff shots around an hour and a half to 2 hour mark ( during the disney halfs it is about at mile 8). I did something similar to you last week. I stopped to fuel and drink a bunch of water. It almost all came back up. The long run before that I didn't stop to take it in..but simply squeegeed it out as I ran and sipped water in between. I totally was able to tolerate that. So for me I wonder if stopping started a cool down process and that caused ill effects..where as since I was still moving the time before my body grabbed the carbs/electrolytes and "ran with it" ;)

12:00PM to 1:30PM - Mexican Tequila Lunch - $75
12:00PM to 2:30PM - Italian Pairing Lunches - $94

1:00PM to 3:00PM - Boot Camp Series - TBD - $119[/CENTER]

I will be so excited to read how the boot camp series goes. It has peaked my interest a tad.... Maybe for next year.

I have to say... you did an awesome job this week! Walking when you were not able to run rather than just saying you couldn't do anything. :worship: you should be proud of yourself!

I think I read somewhere or maybe it was one of my cross fit obsessed coworkers that said, 1 day of skip takes 2 days to make up. I had already missed 4 days & didn't want to get out of habit. As when I get out of habit, it makes it so much harder to get back in the routine.

So for me I wonder if stopping started a cool down process and that caused ill effects..where as since I was still moving the time before my body grabbed the carbs/electrolytes and "ran with it" ;)

I wonder that too then about the stopping. When I picked back my water bottle, I may have had most of the water at that point. I didn't sip along the way.

I'm going to try skipping the nu next time and just using the beans & maybe the one gel I have left as its a 100 minutes.

What did you think of the waffle flavor? I had to laugh though... not to be crass... but I did a double take when I looked at the picture because you have a couple items that look not so much like they would be in a stride box but more like something intended just for adults. :rolleyes1

I haven't tried it yet for the waffle. Its still in my 'running' bowl that has taken over the candy bowl.

I totally didn't even thing that some of those things could be mistaken for adults. :rotfl2:

Correct me if I am wrong... isn't there early on the 25th for DVC?

25th is just for the Demos at the Festival Center not the special events. I don't think we're going to do any demos but our minds may change as they often do.

This is the night we are doing MNSSHP and it is dd's bday so I am going to miss anything offered that day. DH was interested in the flying fish one.. so was sad when I told him we had to skip it.

I"m glad we're planning on MNSSHP on Friday. Thursday have always been a popular Signature Dinner day as they tend to do them on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursday. MNSSHP will be though! Are you eating at LTT or somewhere else?

I really wish the 3DD was not the night before the race. I did do it last year...night before... but I had to skip so much of it. I was still happy to go because my travel buddies who were not running wanted to do it. It was fun to be there with them...but kinda sucked to not be able to fully partake.

I totally get that! We've done 3D a handful of times & I think we're over it. Its just too much sweet stuff for me for 90 minutes! Yeah, no major alcohol enjoyment for Friday or Saturday for me. I'm sure we'll have a drink or two or three on Friday but we'll be drinking enough water to balance it all out.

That is the morning we are shooting for! Maybe I will see you there. :goodvibes

Maybe! That date is our back up. I think Sept 20th fits into our plans better as the mid Sept trip is more F&W than the Oct trip. I need to redo all my plans because I initially forgot entirely about the Expo in my plans & the need to account for the different events.

I wish the one at the wave was happening when we are there.

I didn't even see this one on the list. I did notice Cat Cora... and the other two options of course happen at other times.
I'm hoping the Wave does this well. I haven't heard anything bad about their dinners but I haven't heard much about them in general.

There are a fair amount of options I'm sad I'm missing as well like Robert Irvine's Food for Thought or some of the Boot Camp Series.

So many choices for this day. The party of the senses sounds amazing!

I think my mother doesn't want to do a PotS again. She's fine doing the Swan & Dolphin on Friday night but she wants a traditional sit down on Saturday.

I will be so excited to read how the boot camp series goes. It has peaked my interest a tad.... Maybe for next year.

I hope the boot camp series goes well. Hopefully it does well enough to stay for next year. It seems they are changing around a lot of events this year to see what works.

July Week 4 Run Update

Monday, July 21st
Rest Day!

Tuesday, July 22nd
W8D1 - 58 Min “Run”

Still have to keep walking instead of running per guy that comes to our work each week. I completed 3.58 miles @ a 15:48 pace.

We then went out bowling this evening with the friends that joined us in Disney for my birthday along with another couple. I bowled a lot better this time than I did on the 11th.

Wednesday, July 23rd
W8D2 - 40 Min Cross Training

I spent 40 minutes on the bike. I would have loved to be able to do some more strength training but I didn’t have any time as I needed to go to the grocery store to pick up dinner to bring to my friend’s birthday party. We went to this place called Vino’s Picasso.

Thursday, July 24th
W8D3 - 58 Min “Run”

I headed to the gym to use the treadmill on an incline. This caused me to go a bit slower than I have been. I ended up doing 3.38 miles at a 17:18 pace.

Friday, July 25th
W8D4 - 55 Min “Run”

I did my “run” outside and I actually did try to run a bit at first but quickly figured out that wasn’t smart. 3.11 miles @ a 18:08 pace. I ended up walking slower than normal as well. Part of it was having to get off the path as one of the houses down the street ended up having to have the cops/fire truck/EMTs visit them.

Saturday, July 26th
W8D5 - 40 Minute Cross Training

40 Minutes on the Bike around 10 AM plus some lifting.

Sunday, July 27th
W8D6 - 100 Minute “Run”

I took some of the lessons from the week before for this run. I made sure on Saturday I drank at least 3Ls of water. I may have had more but I really stopped the measurement of it after the first 2Ls. I also made sure I didn’t drink any alcohol. I also ate decently with a fair amount of protein as I made Korean Beef BBQ with Rice for dinner.

When I woke up Sunday, I took my Vitamin B pill and was all set to go outside for the run but well, there was lots of thunder going on outside which meant I knew there was going to be a downpour soon. With having the sore ankle, I really didn’t want to run in the rain. My husband was going to be going to the gym for his 100 minute run so I conceded to running that length of time on the treadmill. As the treadmills max out at 60 minutes, I did the run in two sets of 50 minute blocks with a bathroom break in the middle. I brought a 1L of water to the gym with us along with 1 Clif Gel & 1 Pack of Sport Beans (Lemon-Lime) and had those on side cup neared him so he could grab water or sport beans as needed as well. I was really glad we ran inside as the rain was horrible about 30 minutes into our run.

For my warm up, cool down & walk segments I kept the treadmill at 3.5 mph.
For the run portion, as I’m not really supposed to be running, I did jog some switching up the 4 minute ‘run’ segments into 1 minute blocks between 4.5 MPH & 4.0 MPH settings. I figured this wouldn’t been too mean to my ankle but be a bit more kind to my body than running like I usually do at 5.0 mph or above. That run tempo worked well until after 80 minutes, when I just mostly kept the run to a 4.0 MPH setting as I was willing the time to be done.

I had a single sports bean at the 20 minute, 35, 50, & 75 minute marks. I would had more at the 75 minute mark but my husband had finish the entire pack.
I had the Razz Clif Gel at the 60 minute mark.

So I finished with:

In 100 Minutes, my husband was able to complete 10.5 miles. So 9:31 min/mile for him.

When done, I didn’t have the body freak out this week! In fact, I was able to continue to walk to Walgreens and get home without wanting to die.

Oooh, I've been a little out of the loop and hadn't noticed that they posted the booth menus yet. If you don't mind, I'm going to copy and paste the list to my PTR for planning purposes :)

How cool that you think you'll be able to complete your passport. There's no way I'll be able to do that with the one trip, but I'll have fun trying :thumbsup2

A lot of F&W Info was announced last week. Really exciting!

I don't mind if you copy & paste. I took the list from the Disney Food Blog & just formatted it a little so I stole it too.

Yeah, we have yet to finish it any year even with having two trips to F&W last year. It is always fun to try! If you wanted to try every single item last year, it would have cost almost $960. Luckily it isn't as bad if you just want one thing per booth.

And none of your pants would fit after you spent that $960 :rotfl: I'm pretty sure that we'll be sharing between myself, DH and DD ... It will be nice to get a range of tastes since we'll probably get 2 things from each booth that we visit....not *every* booth. ;)

I too appreciate your list. Thank you for taking the time to type that all up!!!

Sounds like you are continuing to plug along in your training...even with the injury. :thumbsup2 I am also glad to hear that your long run (I know not running so much because the injury....) wasn't as hard on your body. Sounds like the fuel helped, yes?

Just jumping over here from my TR. I've got a lot of catching up to do, but am enjoying reading your plans so far! And let me say, I'm so jealous of all of your upcoming trips.

I did just skip to the F/W lists and I just love fantasizing about what I'm going to get! $960 for one of each??? Oh my. I'll be by myself for some of my trip, so there won't be much sharing. I think my goal will also be getting one thing from each booth too.

I'm looking forward to doing some serious reading and catching up later on tonight!
