Just back from picking up my race packet for the Wine and Dine tomorrow night. It was busy but no lines anywhere! Official race shirt is NOT cute, oh well. I need to be on the committee that comes up with this stuff.

I might be MIA next week, my MIL passed away this morning so we are deciding if just my husband is going to Ohio or if we are all going.

Maura, find me on facebook!!

Suzanne sorry about your MIL. Never easy to lose a family member.

130 Miles for September.
One more long run tomorrow and then I taper for my first marathon. I hope I finish.

Sorry Suzanne about MIL.

I put my September hours back over on that thread.

September miles = 76.03

Suzanne, sorry to hear about you MIL...

All...keep on running!

Suzanne - I'm so sorry for your loss.

111.7 miles in September for me.

Great medal and shirt from your last race Suzanne. Best of luck to everyone running W&D this weekend. I'm off to San Jose in the morning for the Rock 'n Roll Half Marathon there on Sunday.

Talk to you all soon!

-steve

Suzanne - sorry to hear about your loss.

I'll post my September miles later - my Garmin died completely, and I will have to make some educated guesses for a couple of runs if I can't even get it to turn on one more time. On the plus side, DW did pick up a new one for me, so my Garmin 305 (I) is now replaced with Garmin 305 (II). I had the old one for more than four years, so that's not so bad.

Suzanne, Sorry to hear about your MIL.

My miles for September were 42.

It has really cooled off up here, which has made running nice! Of course, the rain we avoided all summer has finally shown up as well, which is not so nice!

So Sorry to hear about your MIL Suzanne. My husband lost his dad just three weeks ago, so I know what you're going through.

Ok so my September mileage was 122.

AND

Wow, it was pretty painful, but I DID IT! :goodvibes My first marathon is in the books. My goal was to come in under 4 hrs 30 minutes and even though the official time isn't up yet, my watch said 4:28!!! The Corning NY Wineglass Marathon was great. Perfect day 55 degrees and sunny. It was pretty chilly at the start at 8:00am but by mile 2 I was shedding my jacket. Miles 1 to 14 were pretty good, felt great, no pain in my legs and I was feeling pretty strong. About mile 16 started to fade, put in the ear buds and listened to music from 'Pirates of the Caribbean'. I was running with my sister who Evelyn decided to pick up the pace for awhile and I was struggling to keep up but managed to hang in there. Around mile 20 or so, my intestines decided that I really really needed to find a porto potty ASAP. Didn't get to one until 22.5, whew, it was looking pretty scary till then. Don't know what happened, but probably too much gatorade. After the porto potty, felt good again until about mile 25. Then started to just die, some place I read that from mile 22 till the end you should assign each mile to someone who needs your thoughts. Mile 25 was assigned to a friend of mine whose battling lung cancer, thoughts of her struggle pushed me through to almost the end. Evelyn got me through the last 1/2 mile. I was ready to stop and puke and she powered on even though she was in pain with a really painfull ITB issue in her left knee. I wasn't going to stop if she wasn't going to. We ended by passing at least a dozen people in the last 1/2 mile. Thanks Ev! I would have never done this without you. Don't actually feel too bad now....just really really tired. Thanks to all who came out to be there esp my hubby who just doesn't get this marathon thing but he was there anyways and all who were giving me their positive thoughts today!

Hope everyone had a blast at the Wine and Dine!

Jeanne

Suzanne Sorry to hear about your MIL. Hope your DH is doing okay.

JeanneYippee, congrats!!!!!!! That's a great time, too! Hope you recover well. Take it easy and let your body get some well deserved rest.

My September miles are 188. Definitely slowing down.

Maura

Jeanne - Congratulations on your first half and you made it in a really good time, despite the unplanned pit stop! ;) I'll be doing cartwheels if I can finish one in under 5 hours. That is a great idea of assigning the difficult miles to people you know who are battling difficult times. Congratulations again!

AFM, I just ran the Rock 'n' Roll San Jose Half Marathon yesterday. Overall, it was a rough but fun experience. I slept terrible the night before. I woke up with a runny nose around 11pm and kept getting up every half hour or so to blow my nose. It was driving me crazy!

I definitely felt sick by the time I got to the race and was blowing my nose constantly. I felt okay starting out. I was a little more winded than normal but my legs felt great. I was in a tight pack of people and couldn't break free for about a mile. The first mile I ran in 10 minutes but did the second mile in 8 minutes. I definitely had trouble breathing during most of the race though and slowed down a bit. I felt pretty good through mile 11 and then really struggled through the last two.

I felt sorry for two people I saw who were laying on the side of the road being helped by medics. They were both past the 12-mile mark and one probably only had about .25 to go. Hopefully they were able to recover and finish.

The course wasn't overly exciting but the bands were good and made it fun. Quite a few people were standing in front of their houses playing their own instruments to help cheer us on.

I later learned that the winner was Meb Keflezighi who won the NYC Marathon as well as this race last year. I saw him fly by on the return and the crowd of runners were cheering him on as loud as the spectators were.

This is one of the things I love most about our sport. What other sport can regular Joe's like me have the opportunity to compete against some of the world's best? Mind you, it wasn't really a competition as he got his medal before I crossed the halfway mark but you get my point! :rotfl2:

-steve

Steve - Awesome race! Wish I lived closer to one of the Rock n Roll 1/2's. I'd love to do one. And I agree, to say I ran in a race with Meb or Paula Radcliff or Deana Castor...wow that would be cool, even if I never saw them :rotfl: (which would be quite likely). If you are doing your half's with 8 minute miles, you definitely could do a sub 5hr marathon, in fact I'd say you are closer to a 4 hr marathon. Everyone told me to take my 1/2 time and double it and add 5 to 15 minutes. It was about right on. Not sure if I'll ever do another, but who knows. I'm not saying no, even though I can't really walk down stairs today. LOL

Hope your cold doesn't last too long.
Thanks !

Jeanne

Suzanne, sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. Did you end up traveling to Ohio?

Jeanne and Steve, congrats on both of your races! Good luck with your taper, SkinsFan. Taper Madness can be brutal.

I have a new PR and 13.1 for the month of October so far. Check the race report thread for all the details. I enjoyed the Wine & Dine half but fear I was in the minority. (I'm a night person and got in a lot of late-night treadmill runs, so the time of day was not an issue for me.)

Thanks Jeanne. I wish I could run the whole thing at an 8:00 pace. I only made it about two miles at that pace before I settled down to my normal 9:15 pace. I really slowed down those last few miles and ended up finishing just under a 10:00. I'm okay with that considering how bad I felt and how off my training has been. I stopped quite a few times to take pictures too.

I'm running a local half in two weeks. I'll be really curious to see how I do since this will be my third time running it.

-steve

Kim - I just read your report on the race report thread. Great job on your PR! I'll be curious to read what people didn't like about it. Aside from the few things you mentioned, it sounded like a nice and successful race. I really hope they do it next year as I want to attend.

-steve

Got back yesterday from the Wine and Dine! First race ever(I did the 8K portion of the relay) was tougher than I thought! I'm going with the high humidity as the key factor :) But had lots of fun doing it!

I did a 13.5mpm and normally I do 14.5 so was very pleased with my time!

As for mileage for Sept. ~39miles for me :)

Just signed myself and the rest of the family up for the 5K Marathon weekend! Should be fun!

Steve Kudos to you for toughing it out during your race. I'm not sure I'd have the mental toughness to start if I felt sick.

Kim Congrats on your PR! I do hope they work out the problems with that race because I still think it would be intresting to try.

Bettina Congrats on your race! I still haven't figured out why a person can run a race faster than they train. Must be a mental thing--not trusting tthe body to do what it's trained to do..

So I ended my mini-rest today by doing my noram Tuesday running/yoga (not at the same time...but it sounds like it would make for a unique race....."Strike a pose"!) The run went fine, although my calf is stillnot healed. Just will stop (or try) thinking about it and hope it takes care of itself before race day. I am trying to be very Zen/yoga about this whole race and try to practice what they teach during class. Focus/breathing/letting the mind go. We'll see how that works out!

Hello,

For those wanting a "WISH racing team" Headsweats brand Visor and/or Hat by the January Marathon Weekend, please hurry and place your order over on the thread. I need to get the minimums before the end of the month so the order can be placed and I can get them mailed out to people.

Find the link below in my signature for the Hat/Visor order (not the special order Visor)

Thanks!!

Hiya Goofs!

Sorry to hear about your MIL Suzanne. It was great to finally meet another Goof in real life.

I thoroughly enjoyed the half marathon. I wasn't as quick as I would have liked to be, but I finished (my main goal) and was able to enjoy the Disney aspects like photo ops as well.

Thanks everyone. My husband ended up going to Ohio by himself and is already back home! We will most likely detour our summer family vacation so my DD and I can pay our respects at the cemetery.

Anyways, I did the Wine and Dine 1/2 on Saturday night and PRed by 37 seconds! I was about 5 minutes ahead of my time until about mile 10 1/2 when both of my calf muscles tightened up and I felt like I needed to crawl. After crossing the finish line, I just felt this wave come over me and had my head in the bushes at Epcot for about 1/2 hour. I don't think night time racing is for me but so glad I did it and got my medal!!

Met lots of new Wishers including our very own Todd and Nicky.

I will try and update the totals tonight. Great job everyone on all of your mileage and races, keep it up!!

Maura...we can take more people who want to join a team, just send them our way!!

Drive by post...
Congrats to those that ran the Wine & Dine! :woohoo:
Hope everyone is having a nice weekend.
Hugs to the Goofs! :grouphug:
