No tricks and all (healthy) treats in OCTOBER with the SUPER GOOFS

Good morning Goofs!

Steve, hope you are on the mend!

Maura, congrats on Boston!!

I feel like a slug this week, no long walk for me on Tuesday but I have been on the bike every night for 5-10 minutes more than usual. 25 year Disney banquet coming up so dress shopping is in my near future.

Kim Yup, I did get in. It took awhile, but I am provisionally entered.

Rich Sorry to hear you're injured still. Hope your recovery plan works out.

Suzanne 25 years! That's a big deal. And they have a banquet? Geez, for 25 yrs at GM, my DH got his choice of gift from a catalog. (I didn't stick around for mine!) I shouldn't complain though. He didn't want anything, so I picked a Dooney & Bourke bag!

Off to the gym to try and run an easy 2-3 miles, then yoga.

Congrats, Suzanne! That is really something to be proud of! What's on the service year pin for 25??

Yay, Maura!

Rich, hope you're injury-free soon. I think I'll be heading out for a cautious slow run tonight or tomorrow for my first post-injury run. My friend who's a physical therapist might join me, which is a good psychological thing for me. If my heel/ankle flares up and causes me problems, at least I'll have a PT right there to help!

Suzanne - Congrats on the 25 years! That's great.

I didn't get any bling from my half marathon last weekend. They only gave medals to marathon finishers. I seriously considered an extra 13.1 for that chunk of plastic!

I can post a picture of my Rock 'n' Roll San Jose and Wine Country Half Marathons I recently ran. I'll take them and post them this weekend.

I went away on business the last couple of days and got a nice easy run in on a nearby trail. It's supposed to pour here all weekend so I might have to head to the gym for the treadmill if there isn't a break in the rain.

Oh, my! I'm sooo behind!

So this week I did my most miles to date in a single week - 29.40. My 17 miler last Sunday actually went very well. Little knee issue toward the end, but I made it thru. Next long run will be 20 miles and I'm extremely scared! Is it normal to want to cry thinking about it? I'm doing Galloway and I have three more runs, all 20 or more before the full in January. I didn't realize how far ahead I am and I hope I don't peak too early. But, I have been following his program to a T.

Nicky - Congrats on the W&D! :woohoo:
Suzanne - Same to you! Also, that is so cool about your 25 years at WDW. :wizard:
Maura - WOW! Congrats! That is so exciting! Boston, here you come!!! :yay:
Steve - Congrats to you, too! And I hear you about the weight! Here I am training for my first full and I'm chubbier than ever! Go figure! :headache:
Jason - Wow! Great time, congrats on your marathon!
Kim - Hope you feel better soon!
Rich - Same to you! Hope you get better quick! :flower3:

Think I'm caught up? :lmao: Lots of congrats around here for the Goofs! :cheer2:

Shan If you realy think you have extra "float" weeks in your plan, then maybe you could repeat a week. I'm glad that Galloway is working out for you. I bet you'll do great in January.

Kim Hope your run went well.

Steve No medal? That's one race I'm not sure I would have done! The bling is addicting.

No running yet for me. I decided to do some easy cycling, some weights (not many) and yesterday I tried a kickboxing class. Of course, the first thing he had us do in that class was laps around the gym! But I felt fine and there weren't that many laps.

This week I'll start running again for sure. Fairly easy, but I better decide what I'm going to do for the next 2 months.

Maura

Shan - you could repeat a week or two, if you feel the need. IIRC, the longest runs in that plan at 20 milers, right? You really only need to do one before a marathon, though doing several will (generally) leave you better prepared. I'd think about holding at 17 or 18 for a week, then a 20, then maybe a 17, a 20, etc until taper time.

Maura - you're going to rest a bit, then train hard and kick some serious booty at Boston, that's what you are going to do!

I'm not ready to pronounce myself healed, but I have upped my daily mileage to 2.5 (from 2 per day last week), and my speed is pretty well recovered. I am going to continue keeping the runs short, and probably slowing down a bit as I increase the distance again. No speedwork or hills for another couple of weeks either. But the last few days have been entirely pain- and limp-free, despite running, chasing Cub Scouts (and a tractor!), moving a couple tons of river rock, and so forth.

Hey Maura and Rich.
I'm doing Galloway.
He already had us do a 17 miler. There is really only three real big runs before the full in January left. He has a 20 miler this Sunday, 23 miles on 11/21 and then 26 on 12/12. Then there are three weeks of tapering!
DH who has run several fulls and even a 40 miler thinks we need to change this up a bit.
I've been following this program pretty faithfully up until this point and I've had minor knee problems so I'm thinking it is working for me. I've only been doing two 3 mile runs during the week and then a longer run on the weekend. I run the short runs and do a R3/W1 on the long runs. I dunno! I don't want to peak too early! And then it seems nobody really runs past 20 during their training? DH thinks we need to do a least one longer run at least two weeks before the full. UGH! Don't know what to do...

Shan I would stick with your current plan. First, you are already doing two runs beyond 20 miles--and so you're building up physical and mental strength. Plus, 3 weeks is not unusual for marathon taper. My plan had 3 weeks, and while it can be mentally challenging, it's probably the right thing to do for your body. After my last 20-miler, I went 13, 10, race.

Rich Glad your recovery is progressing well. That's a lot of rock! Whre does it all go?

I started running again yesterday. Did 5 miles and then yoga. Felt pretty good, although I need to remember to stretch our all the usual suspetcs right after running.

Today I did a pool/weight workout (not together!) Definitely want to do more weights--I pretty much dropped them out. So much to do!

Maura

Thanks Maura. My long runs during taper are 7, 6 and 7. This just seems so short? Is it normal to start doubting everything?:confused3 :lmao:

Happy Halloween Goofs! I haven't checked in lately, but I have been reading and keeping up with everyone.

I did a Trail/Beach run 5K this morning...I would say at least 1 mile was through the sand...boy was that tough! My legs were killing me and I felt like my heart was beating out of my chest! It was a lot of fun, though, to do something so different! One woman was pushing a jogging stroller for the race...I can't imagine how hard that must have been! Fall has arrived up here and it was 44 degrees for the run, which wasn't bad at all once we were moving, but felt pretty cold while we were waiting for the race to start!

I hope everyone has fun tonight! We are taking DS out trick or treating for a while...but probably not too long as it is pretty chilly!
