No summer camp for my kids this year....

Judge not lest ye be judged. For all you nosey bodies who have nothing better to do with your time, than to follow up on my posts FYI -

Our pool broke. Yes, that is right. The pool that we have had for 12 years, the pool that we got when I was pregnant for our twins who are now 11 years old, has bitten the dust. We were going to try to repair it, around $150plus the cost of a new liner, but then it busted out on the other side. Water everywhere in our yard, lots of hard work bailing freezing cold water and swashing through mud, and there is still about 3 feet of ice to go. Yippee, my yard is ruined before Spring is even officially here. Yes, we decided to replace the pool. If our TV broke, we would replace that too. If our fridge or stove broke, we'd replace that too. Same goes for any other appliance, etc. that we have. Okay, I know a pool is not a necessity - so please do not tell me that - but we have had it for 12 years and are used to having the pool, so we did replaced it.

As for camp - my kids are entrepreneurs! They are collecting bottles and cans to return for the deposits and my dd has an idea to plant flowers and vege's and some nice people on the message boards suggested herbs too, so she is on her way to making enough for camp. Of course, Dh and I are paying the balance of whatever they do not manage to make. The way people litter around where we live, they should have no trouble getting almost enough on their own.

Now, let's hope the sniping remarks stop here. I was shocked to find out how much some people pay for a week of summer camp, so I guess we have it better than some.

Have a nice day.:)

And you wonder why you are hoping another loan will solve your debt problems.:confused3

I would not replace a pool, send my kids to summer camp or buy any other wants if I am having to hope to get another loan to help with my debt.

I guess that I see it differently. A few years back, after my son died, we were in debt up to our eyeballs and paying the hospitals and cards that backed up during the acute stage of his illness. Our dryer broke. We did without. I still had 5 kids to care for and do laundry for, but we went to the laundromat. If I was fretting about taking out loans to pay for general life, I'd not be replacing a pool! That just seems like asking for more stress in my life.

I see it differently too. Debt consolidation loans, personal loans, etc are not going to do a bit of good if luxuries (and sorry, pools and camps are luxuries) still come before paying down existing debt.

No comment on OP's priorities, I was just popping by to say that I had no idea camp was so ubiquitous! I'm not sure yet whether we'll do camp for our girls, or rather what sort of camp we might do, but I'd love to hear the reasons people send their kids to overnight camp. I have the Addams' Family camp experience stuck in my head. (I know why I was sent to camp, my parents, bless them, wanted a break!)

Sorry about that...I wish my kids camp only cost 550 for both. You don't want to know what it costs for us to send them to camp for 8 weeks! :scared1:

I liked the pp idea about fundraising for the church...talk to them.. It would help your family and I am sure lots of others!!

You don't happen to send your kids to the JCC Camps do you? ;)
I only ask because you're from Jersey, have an 8wk long camp, and it costs a lot of $$$
Because you're in the same position as my mom was 10 years ago haha

:thumbsup2so 3 kids at camp + my husband taking a week off....$750 for us to work at camp! LOL.

I'm sorry to hear about it but perhaps there are local day camps you could do for one week that your kids would like. We have great ones in our town. It's a half day every day for a week for like $40. The kids LOVE it.

And I actually get to drop them off and run errands and such! LOL.

I'm so sorry to hear about your son. That puts things into perspective.:grouphug:

I totally relate to the laundromat. My dryer went out and I went through 2 lice episodes and fleas with my dog [I swear I'm clean too!] within 6 weeks. I decided it was tempation and I refused to give in. WE've never had fleas or lice. I lived at the laundromat. People didn't understand me at all. I just couldn't buy one. I was waiting for a deal and we were so close to black friday....LOL.

Got my deal. Love my fab new washer and dryer. Worth the wait and the price.

Judge not lest ye be judged.

that's actually taken out of context.....

but i digress...

I haven't read through all the posts but I know you need to have thick skin sometimes for responses to posts. But remember, you chose to post....so now you get to hear other people's opinions of your post....such is the fun of life. If you can take it [trust me it's hard I know] there is sometimes great learning to be had!!

Hang in there! At the heart, we all love disney so we can't be all bad. :hippie:
