I have done some research and this is what I was told by Sulka on the VMK Forums to fix this problem. It works great. :cool1:

If you're on a PC and want to play VMK full screen (with all the buttons showing and large fonts), do the following:

1. Make your screen resolution 800x600 pixels
2. Click on the Start bar, Click on Run..
3. Paste "iexplore -k https://secure.disney.go.com/vmk/en_US/register/index?name=LoginPage" (without the quotes " ") to the text entry field and press enter
4. Log in and play!
5. To stop playing, press Alt-F4

Full screen looks awesome and is good for older computers with lower screen resolutions. If you start playing full-screen, remember to check on the VMK website for news on what's happening with the events (following above instructions bypasses the front page of the website).

Good trick! Thanks for sharing! Will definately be useful at certain points for me.... :)

EDIT: Don't know if all windows keyboards have this key, but my laptop does... It looks like the windows icon. If you press it, it will pop the start bar over VMK full screen. That way you can switch back and forth between the DIS and VMK if you wanted to. Nice! :wizard:

Thank you for posting! :) I couldn't scroll or see the buttons yesterday or today. The directions that you gave worked great.

Thanks so much for the info! This helped so much for my dd's computer. I really appreciate it (and so does she).

Thanks! :flower:

Your so welcome. I could not believe the problems I had yesterday. The scroll bar, unable to use the tool bar at all. Then being accidently banned for saying something against the rules (which was real tricky when I couldn't type :confused3 ). Thank god VMK realised they made the mistake. :cool1:

or press alt+tab

Awesome!!! Mods...can we pin this to the top? Thanks.

A bump for those needing help with their screen.

Wanna make it simpler?? Here ya go!!

BTW, remember that the method at the beginning of this thread and the following refinement are for people who run their computer displays at less than the Disney recommended display resolution of 1024x768. Running VMK at a display resolution of less than 1024x768 will not allow you to see the bottom AND top menus on VMK at the same time....because the VMK interface is optimized at 1024x768...which means the information on the display is too large to fit on your computer screen all-at-once if you use a lower display resolution (i.e., 800x600). You'll have to use the scroll bar on the right to scroll up/down to access each menu when you need to. F11 will not correct the problem! The following shortcut (which utilizes the method at the beginning of this thread) eliminates the problem by giving you a desktop shortcut that you just double-click to get into VMK, with the ability to see BOTH menus simultaneously.

Right-click on desktop and choose New/Shortcut.

Browse to where Internet Explorer is on your computer (mine is at "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE")

Click Next.

Type a name for the shortcut (I used VMK).

Click finish.

Right-click on the new shortcut and choose Properties.

Place your cursor at the end of the text in the Target box and space forward one space.
Then copy and paste the following line there:

-k https://secure.disney.go.com/vmk/en_US/register/index?name=LoginPage

My complete 'Target' line looks like this:

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE" -k https://secure.disney.go.com/vmk/en_US/register/index?name=LoginPage

Note that it is all one line and that there is a space between the -k and the text on the next line (...-k https://secure...). Also, the quotes are necessary.

Click Apply and close the box. You now can do the Kiosk Mode trick to VMK by clicking on a shortcut! Wella.

What this does is it runs Internet Explorer in 'Kiosk' mode (which is what the -k above means). Kiosk mode runs IE without any toolbars, status bars, borders, etc. Doing this gives you just enough room to see the entire VMK screen on your display while running at 800x600 resolution.

Remember to close the window by using either Alt+F4 or Ctrl+W. Here are the keyboard shortcuts you can use since the new VMK IE screen will have no toolbars:

Alt+F4: Close window
Ctrl+A: Select all (editing)
Alt+left arrow: Back
Alt+right arrow: Forward
Alt+tab: switch to other open windows
Esc: Stop
F5: Refresh
Ctrl+B: Organize favorites
Ctrl+X: Cut (editing)
Ctrl+C: Copy (editing)
Ctrl+V: Paste (editing)
Ctrl+F: Find (on current page)
Ctrl+H: View History folder
Ctrl+L: Open Location dialog box
Ctrl+N: New window (opens in non-Kiosk mode)
Ctrl+O: Open Location dialog box (same as Ctrl+L)
Ctrl+P: Print
Ctrl+R: Refresh
Ctrl+S: Save
Ctrl+W: Close window (same as Alt+F4)

I guess I am confused, I just have the loginpage on a shortcut in my IE Favorites, why do you need to make a desktop shortcut or use the run key? using the run key to launch IE actually disables certain addins in IE on some computers because it runs it in "safe mode"

This is for people who want to run their computers in 800x600 mode (or other modes besides 1024x768), but also want to be able to see all of the VMK screen in their browser window. If your computer is in 800x600 mode, for example, normally you will have either the top or the bottom of the VMK screen cut off...which means the navigation bar at the top or the menu at the bottom is only accessible by scrolling up or down. Using this shortcut technique, you're running IE in Kiosk mode...which strips it of menus/toolbars/status bars, etc. This results in the ability to see the entire VMK screen without changing your screen resolution to 1024x768.

right, you remove all toolbars, etc, you also remove virus protection, popup blockers and any other addon that IE uses to keep you safe or running effectively... you dont need to run "kiosk" mode run it in full screen mode by hitting F11 - yes, it is that simple

I'm confused, what happened with full screen and no tool bar and vmk going all weird? *so out of it* Lol! >_<

I'm not sure what you're talking about when you say that IE runs in 'safe mode' when using Start/Run. It's the same thing as double-clicking on Iexplore.exe. Please post some links to support this as I just tested this on my computer and everything is running fine with nothing disabled.

I use an external virus program, I run an external firewall and hardware firewall, a popup blocker is not necessary in VMK, and what other IE addon do you need for VMK? The web address starts with 'https', so it's a secure 128 bit connection.

F11 will not do what you think in this circumstance. Set your display resolution to 800x600, then logon to VMK. Hit F11, then come back here and post what happens. I just tried what you suggested again, just for fun. You cannot view the whole VMK screen using F11 while in 800x600. Even manually deselecting the status bar, standard buttons, address bar and links will not accomplish what you say in VMK. When you logon to VMK, VMK will automatically strip out all navigation and links from IE. It will show a blue Title bar at the top and a gray Status bar at the bottom. This is where the problem lies because those 2 bars hide the top and bottom navigation that VMK uses! Pressing F11 while in VMK will cause the blue Title bar at the top of the screen to be REPLACED by a gray IE bar/bars normally at the top of IE! It will also keep the Status bar at the bottom. So F11 accomplishes...nothing.

And relying solely on Microsoft IE to keep oneself running safely and effectively is a mistake, IMHO. Sorry.

BTW, I moved the keyboard shortcuts that I had put in this post to my first post in this thread so that all the information is in one place.

You forgot the neat shortcut to switch windows which is Alt+Tab to switch to other open windows. I t is a neat solution, however because it is more dificult to participate in IM while in this mode I can not really use it. I prefer the F11 option even though it still has the Tool Bar. But still I usualy only use F11 for playing fireworks to get rid of some of the briteness.

An even shorter way to get this very screen is :

Click on Start - Go into RUN - Paste the entire line below

iexplore -k https://secure.disney.go.com/vmk/en_US/register/index?name=LoginPage

Then press OK.

To close the window press alt F4 - To switch press Alt Tab

Yes, that method is at the beginning of this thread, and that's fine if you're only playing the game once. Every time you want to play the game, you have to find that line and copy/paste it into Start/Run (especially if you clear your history, internet temp files and other things on a regular basis). My method gives you a desktop shortcut to just double-click to accomplish the same thing. No more copying/pasting/finding the line.

Thanks, Adventuredaz for the Alt+tab reminder. I added it to my post with the other keyboard shortcuts. If you're running other software that needs constant attention at the same time as VMK, this method is not for you...unless you really want to see both the bottom and top menus of VMK at the same time without scrolling up/down to get to them.
