No Sleep Till Disney! We can save money by flying at 6am! (Updates!! 12/7 - p.12)

Just read thru your TR and can't wait to hear more! Me, hubby and 2 sons will be at AKL in Aug 2011 at Jambo House with a pool view and we are soooo excited!! Your report of Sanaa is making me rethink that restaurant and adding it to our list of possibilies. Thanks for all the great info!

Thanks for joining my trip report! You will absolutely love Jambo House! And YES - definitely add Sanaa to your list. Excellent food and service, and so beautiful too. :)

BTW...we fly out of Philly too and I ONLY book the early AM flights too not just to save money but to get a full day at the parks. Just flew down to Universal end of July with DS16..flight left at 7am. I'm heading to POP with DS7 in 27 days and our flight leaves at 7am....hoping to be in MK before 11am so he can ride his first big coaster...BTMRR!:)

Day Four, Part Two!

So after swimming upon return from the water park (haha! that sounds kind of silly....) it was time to get ready for our dinner.

I wanted to show off the new hoodie I got in the Contemporary gift shop - it was half off and will TOTALLY be coming with me on my October trip!

We also had some messages on our phone from my mom's cousin. He lives in the Orlando area and wanted to visit with us briefly while we were there. He took the bus in and we hung out in the lobby bar area for a bit and chatted and did some catching up.

But it seemed like no time before we had to get going so we could make our dinner ADR at Yak and Yeti in Animal Kingdom. We said good-bye and headed down to the lobby to get the bus to AK.

I was wearing my skirt that I got at Animal Kingdom last year. There's a little shop/stand not far from Yak and Yeti, actually, that sells shirts and pretty wrap skirts made of silk. Tonight was the night to wear mine!

We found a photopass CM when we got in... (I'm wearing my new bracelet that I got at TL earlier that day!)

Turns out we were a little early. We could've killed time by walking around, but good lord, that heat. No way.

The restaurant was able to seat us earlier - yay for air-conditioning! Sweet, sweet air-conditioning...:goodvibes

I started off my meal with some kind of girly grape concoction. Not really sure what it was - but it was like a grape snow cone - with booze. Fortunately the CM warned me to keep stirring it or it would start to melt into a solid ice ball! :scared1:

IMG_6277.jpg

It wasn't bad, but after that, I had to have my Yak Attack!

IMG_6279.jpg

Brian and I both ordered the Mahi Mahi. It was really good - nice Asian flavors. (Brian teases me about my love of Asian food. I must have been Asian in a past life 'cause I could eat Asian food every day. I freakin' love it!)

IMG_6278.jpg

For dessert, I ordered the cream cheese wontons. Wow - these are just SO GOOD!

IMG_6280.jpg

(and I'm kind of hungry as I type this up - these food pics and memories are so not helpin'!)

Brian got the sorbet sampler...

IMG_6281.jpg

After dinner, we headed out towards Expedition Everest. As you can see, I didn't last very long with my hair down. Blasted heat!

Photo0068.jpg

Brian also got some pictures to show how the little shrine thing near the photopass spot actually lines up with the hills of EE....

IMG_6265.jpg

So even though our bellies were quite full, we were totally up for a ride on EE!!

We headed to our new fave place - the single rider line! And after an excellent ride through the mountain, we walked around to get some pics, realizing this was our FIRST ever evening in AK! We couldn't quite believe it ourselves, but we had only ever done mornings at AK! So we had to get some "Evening" pictures at AK!

We even headed over to Camp Minnie Mickey, as we'd never been there. (Remember, we don't have kids nor had we done the shows much, so, well, we just never got down there.)

Guess what Brian found - a mother duck and her babies tucked in by some trees next to the stream...

IMG_6316.jpg

So cute!

We started to head towards Discovery Island to get some pics there too. While we were walking around, we actually saw a boy pick up a wild duck. (Well, "wild"-ish, since it lives there begging for food at Disney.) The poor duck was scared out of its wits and was struggling to get free. The boy seemed to think it was funny and was holding it up for all to see. (And this boy was old enough to know better - he looked about 12 or 13.)

This animal lover went into *protect the animals* mode. I immediately looked at the boy in the eyes and told him to "put the duck down! Do you have training in animal handling? Then you need to put the poor duck down!" He was embarrassed that some crazy lady was scolding him in public and put the duck down so it could run away.

Where the heck were the parents of this trouble-maker? Why did a CM not reprimand him?! I get really protective of animals and can't stand to see someone treating any of them badly. Grrr.... I doubt he'll have learned any kind of lesson....

After that little fiasco, we took a few more pictures and headed out...

We were gonna head back - with plans to visit the new Top of the World Lounge viewing-deck on top of BLT for the fireworks! That's up next!

Jen, I would've said something to that duck-holding kid, too. You're right -- at that age, he should absolutely know better!

Way to go on sticking up for the duck! :thumbsup2

I love reading your reports (and others too!) stuff I'm totally not excited for like the water park and Animal Kingdom suddenly seems awesome by looking at real life pictures. Thank you!

Thanks! It's just that everyone was looking and doing nothing. If the kid's parents weren't going to teach him how to behave around animals, someone had to! I get so charged up about this kind of thing. I used to watch Animal Cops on Animal Planet, and Brian always asked me why I would watch it, since I ended up crying so often. I guess I just liked seeing the animal abusers get caught and arrested.

Thanks for reading! And we love Animal Kingdom! I know that sometimes people aren't as into it, but I just don't get that! Obviously, though, we really love animals, so that weighs in a lot there.

It makes me crazy to see animals being mistreated. I grew up in a family that rescued and rehabilitated all types of animals. Good job stepping in and stopping that brat (and too bad that there are parents out there that think it's okay to let their kids behave that way)!

So glad you said something to that boy! How horrible of him to do that to the poor duck! I would absolutely have done the same thing. Might be the teacher/mom in me, but there's no way I would have let that slide!

On a side note, I LOVE your skirt!! I am totally going to buy one when I'm there next.

We've never been at AK at night either. Thanks for the gorgeous pics!

loving the trip report i would have said something to the kid to in may when i was at animal kingdom theres signs all over the place saying not to feed the animals and the family next to me at flame tree bbq were feeding the duck i was so annoyed i asked them if they could read

It's so wonderful to have people like you and your family who care about animals and give them a second chance in life! Here's a huge thanks from one animal lover to another!

And you know, I didn't even see any parents around the kid. Obviously he is not mature enough to walk around on his own... :sad2:

Thanks on the skirt! They have so many color combinations to choose from! It took awhile to narrow it down to one!

Sadly, SO many people feed the animals! I don't know what people don't get about clear signs telling them not to! :confused3 *sigh*

But on a happier note, I'm so glad to have you along for my TR!

I don't know what people don't get about clear signs telling them not to! *sigh*

Because too many people don't think!

I love your pictures and your story telling.

BTW, Jen, I just bought your Echoes of Christmas Past CD on iTunes. You have an amazing voice and I love the songs! Do you ever do anything at Bucks County Playhouse? My parents get tickets for shows there all the time.

Wow! Thanks so much! You made my night! :goodvibes

I've done a few auditions at Bucks (2 or 3), but they don't seem to be interested in my voice type. They seem to be more drawn to those who can do the "pop belt" sound. But I do other stuff all around the area! I'll keep everyone posted about my upcoming stuff later this fall!

:goodvibes

I also got other good news tonight...

I found out that my CD from last year (Echoes of Christmas Past) was chosen by christmasreviews.com for their Best of 2009 list!

I never received any kind of notification, but I went on my myspace page for the first time in months tonight. One of the other artists whose CD's was chosen sent me a congratulatory message! So I went to the page, and there I was! It was a very cool moment!

Funny how a few things can change your day from bad to good... :)

Congrats on your Best of 2009 list, that's awesome!

Love all the pics of AK and your Yak & Yeti meal! I have a lunch ressie there for my Oct trip with DS7 and my mom this year and I'm so looking forward to it!
