No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems: A Tremendously Tropical PTR

I say DO the FE too!!! Ours was much larger - around 20 families I think! We split it up and did it on two different trips. Yours will be smaller it sounds like, and you could even split up between you and your DH and deliver. It's a lot of fun! Just bring a little duffle bag along to tote back all your goodies! We got some very nice gifts, fun things and the kids loved seeing the pockets of the FE full when we'd come to our room! Our organizer made up a list of everyone, with ages, genders, cabin #'s etc. and then someone put it on the deck maps of the ship with circled rooms, so it was really easy to find everyone. You can do it inexpensively, or spend a ton, it's really up to you. We got some wonderful gifts, some practical, some homemade etc. On our December 2009 trip, we got so much that we couldn't barely fit it in our luggage to get off the ship - good thing we had a car!! I think everyone was in the Spirit of Christmas Giving then!

Dolphin Encounter - that's the one we did. LOVED it! Wished it were longer time with the dolphin, that's all. We took our disposable waterproof camera and did not use it while we were in the water, because it was too busy and we were kind of close together. We ended up spending about $129 for the big package with the album and CD or DVD (whatever it was). It didn't seem like the trainer would use our camera, and they had their own photographer there.

Rum cakes!!!! YUMMY!!!! Wigd is right! They do last a long time - if you can keep from opening them! We bring them back for gifts sometimes too. I still have some in my cupboard from our March trip. But only because we hid them away and can't see them. We break them out for special occasions or when we need a little "tropical" feeling!

Okay, I think that's all I wanted to say.

Oh yeah -

WOO HOO for 3 months!!!!:cheer2::yay:

3 MONTHS!!!

Job update:

DH finally got an email telling him that his final interview will be Tuesday (Aug. 2nd). It amazes me how slow the wheels turn within a company. Anyway, I am really hoping that he hears something quickly afterwards. I only have 4 days after the interview to cancel one of my cruises. Talk about taking it right down to the wire! :sad2:

:cheer2: Yeah for 3 Months! :cheer2:

I will keep my fingers crossed that this last interview is just a formality and they tell your DH right then and there that he has the job. Sending DH lots and lots of :wizard:

I can imagine the stress you will be feeling if you have to wait with so little time to decide on which cruise to keep.

Happy 3 months!!! :dance3:

Oh my, that really is taking it down to the wire, I would be stressing out if I were you but I am a very stressful person. I am sure everything will work out. My fingers are crossed for you!

I am a stresser too and it is starting to get to me. I've never considered trip insurance before, but I may need it this year. :headache:

Don decided that he wanted the video that they took of us, so we just bought a package that included 3 5x7 photos. It will be hard to take pictures yourself, just because of the way they do everything, you are quite close together and it might be hard to get pictures of each other when you are so close, plus it wasn't very easy to balance at the edge of the platform - just not good picture taking conditions! Hopefully you can talk another guest into taking them for you. :thumbsup2

Yay for 3 months! :yay:

Boo for only having 4 days after the final interview to cancel your cruise - yikes that's cutting it close!!!

Hmmm. That's not exactly what I was hoping to hear. I really wanted to avoid buying the pictures. Oh well, at least I know I better be prepared to buy them if I have to.

Does the company not realize that you have a vacation to plan?? Geez, what are they thinking.:confused3:laughing:

Fingers crossed for DH and a quick reply!!:goodvibes

My thoughts exactly! What are they thinking? They have really added some gray hairs to my head over this job/trip!

YAY for 3 MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!!!! :banana::banana::banana:

Good luck to your DH!!:wizard:

Thanks! :woohoo:

I found a thread on the DIS yesterday about gift ideas for FEs and boy are you right! They really get into it and there were some great gifts being exchanged on there. I loved the homemade stuff! Now I am really torn on it! I may break down and go for it! I have a room full of scrapbooking stuff that I can use to make some gifts and I know I would enjoy doing it. I'm thinking I could make some autograph books fairly simply and a few other things to go with that. I don't know.... I'm going to sleep on it some more. I know you guys have always enjoyed it a lot though.

Everyone seems to think that I won't be able to take my own pics. That's a real bummer for me! I was considering skipping this and going to Discovery Cove instead, but being able to take my own pics is what led me to choose Blue Lagoon. :sad2:

Ok, you guys have convinced me to try the rum cakes. I hope you can't taste the alcohol though. I am NOT a drinker.... I hate the taste of alcohol. But I know most things like that, the alcohol taste cooks out.

And I am just like you.... if something is really good I have to hide it from everyone, including myself!

Okay, I think that's all I wanted to say.

Thanks! I wish it would be that easy, but I am pretty certain it won't be. Plus DH has since found out that the head hiring manager has "a friend" who is interviewing for the job. I think DH is pretty discouraged about that. I know he is the most qualified person for this job, but yet company politics may give it to someone else. Makes you not even want to go above and beyond, but just do what's required of you and go home. But who knows.... he's not giving up on it yet.

You can ask someone in your group who is not in the water at the same time to take pictures, thats what we did. But they took just OK pictures. They seemed afraid to zoom in. In the water itself,it's too hard to do it.

The Tortuga Rum cake shop is close to the ship. They will give you a map and it won't take you five minutes to get there. Actually you will pass by when you go to and from the the excursion. Just stop and enjoy the samples and make your choices! Those cakes come vacuumed sealed and last a very long time. When they tell you how long they stay fresh. They aren't feeding you a line....

I was going to say the same thing and suggest you should get off the ship, if nothing else, just for these rum cakes - they are delish!!! It's been a few years since we went on our cruise (not DCL :sad2: ), but if I recall correctly, we bought quite a few to bring back as gifts. They have different sizes...the mini ones are perfect for a nice little "thought-of-you-on-our-trip" gift. :thumbsup2

I'll have to try that. I have just never gotten a good picture from a stranger though. Like you said they never zoom in. But I guess it's better than nothing. That's why I never ask my DH to take pictures too. He never zooms and always stands WAY back so we look like ants in the picture.

You guys have definitely talked me into the rum cakes. They do sound like a good gift. I might bring that back for my parents for keeping our dogs for us. Now you have me wondering if there is anything else I will be missing out on in the Bahamas????

I can see where your DH has become discouraged, try to think positive and I have my fingers crossed for him

Thanks! I really appreciate the words of encouragement. It is so frustrating to see things going on that you know are not right though. But that kind of thing is very typical in the business world. What can you do? All I know for certain is that when God closes a door, He opens a window, so no matter what happens, we will be fine! :)

Rinky, I really hope the interview goes well and that he nails the job. It sounds like he really deserves it! :goodvibes

Have I posted here already? When I searched for my last post, the DIS told me I hadn't! :confused3 I know I have been reading! I was a bit behind, but so what's new?

I am just LOVING your pictures!!! I cannot wait to see that aqua colored water myself. :cloud9: I really enjoyed Jen's update on the Dolphin Encounter, I am sure you guys will all have some great memories made there!

I'm sorry to hear your DH's company is taking so long! :headache: Hopefully all the waiting results in good news though!

Thank you! I hope it goes well too. We are just both so mentally exhausted over it. I mean, you wait, you wonder, you wait some more, you wonder, you keep waiting......................... We feel like puppets on a string. :sad2:

Yes, I am pretty sure you have posted before. The DIS can do some crazy stuff sometimes. They are constantly loosing my thread subscriptions. One minute I am subscribed, the next I'm not! Then I have to try to remember who I am missing, find them again, and get caught up. And I wonder if I am the only one who can NEVER get the search feature to work correctly???? They definitely have some glitches in their system.

I think we are going to love the dolphin encounter too! I have wanted to do that ever since I was a little girl!

Isn't that aqua water what dreams are made of! Seriously, it is a beautiful thing to me. I know you are going to love it too!

Thanks, I hope the job wait is almost over. It's been dragging on for over 4 months now. That's a really long time and it has tested our patience for sure.

Hi Rinky!
As far as anything you might be missing out on in the Bahamas...
I know Sheree has bought jewelry.
I like to buy the knock-off Coach bags in the straw market.
The rum cakes that we've talked about (and they don't have a alcohol taste).:thumbsup2
You can go to the shopping preview on the ship just after boarding just to see what is offered....
They give out some free gifts and have drawings there too!

So glad to hear the rum cakes don't taste like rum! :rotfl: :upsidedow

Thanks for all the tips! I have a feeling I am going to be very overwhelmed trying to figure out what to do each day since there is a long list of things we would like to do!

Hey Rinky - How'd you like a free dining package???

Check this out - it goes through fall and into 2012!

http://www.wdwinfo.com/disneypackages.htm#freedining

I hope it works out for you!

OH MY GOODNESS! I found a thread about this promo coming out about 4 days ago and I have lived over there ever since trying to keep up with it! It has been INSANE!!! :scared1: They also have free dining for dates in 2012!

Thank you for thinking of me and taking the time to post this over here! I hope it helps others out too that might not know yet!

I have BIG news..........

We got FREE DINING for our trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

party:party:party:party:party:

And for those of you that aren't aware of it, a new promo came out this morning for October-December and for lots of dates in 2012! I'll go ahead and warn you though that it is insane on the DIS and at Disney reservations this morning! I mean INSANE!!! :scared1: The DIS actually crashed this morning because of all the free dining chatter. I was also on the phone at 7:00 am on the dot this morning to book this promo and I waited on hold for 1 hour and 40 minutes!! Some people have reported waiting for 3 hours! The phone lines actually overloaded for a while too and no one could get through. It has been a wild ride!

And in other news..... DH had his interview yesterday afternoon. He said it went really well and he felt good about it. He hasn't heard anything yet though. They told him he should know something by Friday. I'll believe that when I see it.

Anyway, it has been a very busy and exciting week here! I hope all is well with all of you! I hope to get an update on here this week now that things are settling down a bit, so bear with me!

YAY!!!!! I have been trying on the TA number all morning to modify for a client and no one can get through there at all. I'm gonna try later on again.

I was thinking you had been waiting for a deal - I knew you'd have been checking!!

I did buy jewelry once in Nassau on our cruises. It was actually a really pleasant experience, a bit of sales pressure, but my DH wanted me to find something, so I did! Unfortunately, the ring I bought got caught on something and the setting of a side stone cracked and a small stone went missing. Dummy me, I forgot to bring it on our recent cruise and have them fix it!! I'll probably have it done here, because I really love the ring. Maybe that should be my B-day present!!!

Still praying and finger crossing for your DH's job!
